Cracked

Dear fandom friends,

1- Who is watching Cracked, so that I may share ALL my feels with you? Seriously, there are FEELS and no one at whom to flail. This is TERRIBLE.

2- If you are not watching Cracked, but are the type of person who enjoys thoughtful police procedurals and yearns for a show that actually deals with mental illness in a thoughtful, considerate and mostly non-triggering way, then what are you waiting for? This is the time to start!

The gist of the show is: Former SWAT cop Aiden Black gets teamed up with insightful but delightfully complex psychiatrist Daniella Ridley to form part of the Toronto police's new Psych Crimes and Crisis Unit. Backing them up are aspiring homicide Detective Liette and psychiatric nurse Leo Beckett, along with a strong supporting cast of much of Canada's "hey, it's that guy/girl from that show who's really good but I can't remember his/her name!" type of actors.

Together they fight crime! But with delicacy and an intelligent, compassionate approach to the subject matter!

*coaxes you all over to the new show*

3- If you are watching Cracked and know how much promise it shows, please to be pointing me to ALL THE FIC NAO, plskthx.

This show has the potential to be an absolute gem. It doesn't even have an AO3 tag yet, that I've been able to find. Hopefully this will change.

Okay, this show sounds pretty interesting (That gifset on Tumblr hurt and I don't even watch the show), plus, David Sutcliffe! I think I'm going to have to check it out, and I hope it comes to the US.

LOL, I don't need another show, but oh well.

LOL

This one is well worth it. :)

I saw your gifset on tumblr, and it set hooks in me. I checked the CBC website and the episodes are all available there. SO. Some time in the next couple of days I will watch (prolly tonight) It looks really promising. Thanks for the heads up :D

Yay! Let me know! Also, ignore the "tension" they try to create between the two leads in the pilot. They do away with that pretty quickly, because it's stupid and they do better when they're getting along. :)

[identity profile] jesseofthenorth.livejournal.com 2013-03-01 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
Well i watched it, and damn Daphne that is the best thing I have watched on CBC that wasn't hockey, in ten years! Please tell me the rest of the eps keep up with the heights hit in the pilot. That was AWESOME!

[identity profile] jesseofthenorth.livejournal.com 2013-03-01 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
Also! i know all the words of the theme song Weighty Ghost by Wintersleep because I love the song! (which is strangely fitting for the show)

Huh.
I think I am all asquee about a new show :DDD

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2013-03-01 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
And YES, the SOOOOOONG. I'd never heard it before, but it fits so beautifully. I am all a-squee! I need to write fic, but first I will re-watch all the episodes first.

Last week's ep with the baby definitely does, and so does the second episode, if I recall correctly. The rest I would say are solid procedural episodes with very good moments of dealing with mental illness issues.

Isn't it awesome?!?

Wow, it really does sound great! I'm hardly DLing anything anymore because it's such a hassle compared to legal streaming. But, you know, I certainly wouldn't feel guilty since when I tried to watch it on the CBC website right now a nice invisible lady came on to tell that the content was not available--I guess they only stream it within Canada. Hmph.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2013-03-01 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Argh.

Do you have Dropbox? Maybe we could share that way. I am happy to spread the joy, if I can!

Meeeee. I've seen two eps so far! I think it's a super interesting premise and I like a lot of the characters a lot. <333 The name of the show bothers me, though I've found their treatment of the subject matter on the show itself pretty sensitively done, which is awesome and rare, so I'm a bit torn there. I just wish it was called something else.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2013-03-01 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I see what you mean. On my end, I've always been a little irreverent about my own struggle with mental illness, so a word like "cracked" doesn't bother me much.

I also kind of love how it works on multiple levels. Cracked doesn't just mean unbalanced to me, it also means flawed, slightly imperfect. Kind of like a mirror, which then starts reflecting back infinite possibilities. It also implies the possibility of repair, contrary to a word like "broken."

But yeah, for many people struggling with mental illness, having others use words that aren't accurate or that could be construed as negative, it makes everything that much harder.

Last week's ep (with the baby) just about BROKE me. I have ALL the Daniella feels!

[identity profile] maypoles.livejournal.com 2013-03-01 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I like that interpretation. <3 It could be taken on multiple levels, yeah. The process of 'cracking' a case would fit too, I think.

I'm not personally super-bothered by the word either. But before I actually watched the show, seeing the previews with that title made me wary, and to assume it would be a much different show than it is, so I guess I'm just worried other people will have that same first impression and not give it a chance.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2013-03-01 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's a legitimate concern, that the title will put off people who would otherwise have really enjoyed the show.

I'm re-watching now, and the third episode is pretty powerful too. I really hope this show doesn't get cancelled before it reaches its real potential.

Woohoo!

[identity profile] cordelia-gray.livejournal.com 2013-03-03 07:31 am (UTC)(link)
I had not heard of this show at all. Clearly, I suck at being Canadian! Can't wait to check it out.
