ratherastory: (SPN Writing is Hard!)
I should have put this in my last post, but oh well.

I have come to a decision. I have all these plot bunnies dancing around in the back of my head, mostly for SPN and H50, and in the whole BB and challenge madness I have been neglecting the sad bunnies.

So once my current BB obligations are filled, I'm not going to sign up for any BBs until 2012. I think having a restrained list of BBs I would really like to participate in is a good plan. So, tentatively, here are the BBs I'd like to do next year:

- [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang: it's my first love, and I can't imagine not doing it

- [livejournal.com profile] deancasbigbang: hopefully I won't crash and burn this year, but I had such a wonderful time with last year's BB that I want to keep doing it.

- [livejournal.com profile] sncross_bigbang: I never managed it this year, but I'd like to give it a shot next year.

- Whichever one of the existing H50 Big Bangs survives into next year. I somehow doubt it'll be the one I'm in this year, but you never know. :)

And that's it. All my other writing I'm going to do on my own time, just for the sheer joy of it. No pressure, only stories.

ratherastory: (MST3K Evil & The Narrator)
I just realized that I have about 34 days to get rough drafts done for 4 Big Bangs, and ready-to-post versions for 3 challenges. Of those four Big Bangs, I have exactly *one* mostly written, and it's due in, oh, three days.

So I'm going to attempt a writing schedule here, under the cut. Numbers, unexciting because Jared Padalecki isn't reciting them )

If you need me, I'll be over here in this corner, quietly (or not-so-quietly) freaking out over my summergen.

The SPN re-watch will start once I've finished summergen. Thanks for your understanding. :P

I FINISHED! I finished writing The Big Bang That Would Not Die™!

It clocks in at 96,857 words. Yup. That's about 17k more than I thought it would be.

No, really, I mean it!

My apologies to those of you who have the misfortune of being subscribed to me at AO3, I know you got spammed over the last few days as I got caught up on backing up my work.

The good news is that I'm pretty much done. I have one multi-chapter story that I still haven't backed up, but everything else is there now, so no more spam! Yay!

For those of you who didn't know that I have found yet another place to crosspost to, well, now you know. I can be found here: faviconratherastory.

I actually really like the AO3 format. LJ will always be my first home and my primary posting grounds, but AO3 allows me to embed images and links much the same way (unlike fanfiction.net), and I'm slowly getting used to how it works over there. There are things I still don't understand (like, what the heck does 'Orphan my works' even mean? It sounds like I'm ordering a hit on myself, which is mildly terrifying), but I'm working my way through it.

I am also pretty much caught up on all the comments & feedback that had been piling up in various places, which is definitely good. I kind of got swamped there for a while.

I am still fighting to the death with my Big Bang. I am at that point where I hate everything about the fic and am convinced it sucks. This happens pretty much with every long piece of work I have ever written, and I think it's not uncommon among writers and artists anyway. ;)

I have a bunch of medium-to-big writing projects due fairly soon. It's weird, but I've gotten a little stuck on writing long things lately. All the long fic I've posted was written a few months ago and simply finished and edited recently. The longest fic I've managed lately is maybe 3 or 4k. I don't know, it hasn't been a great couple of months, writing-wise. Hopefully things will pick up and I'll start feeling excited again about the whole writing thing. Right now everything I write feels like it's utter shit. Feh.

This story is fighting me every step of the way. Remind me never to write RPS ever again. God.

Also, I had a horrible, horrible doubt assail me yesterday. Some of you know by now that I'm doing a J2 retelling of Avatar (the blue alien one, not the other one), but it occurred to me FAR too late that unlike most RPS authors I kept most of the original names from the movie rather than replace them with CW casting.

I've never really written RPS AU before. Am I committing some sort of major sin, here? Anyone? Just how much do I have to fix this, or is it okay if I didn't use anyone else from the CW?

Oh my God. I am behind on EVERYTHING. So I'm making a list of what needs to get done this month, along with due dates where applicable. No idea if it'll work, since life/job/whatever might get in the way, but I'll give it the good old college try.

Okay, folks. If I owe you a fic (charity, gift, other) and it's NOT on this list, please let me know? I have a memory like a sieve, and I don't want to let people down more than I already have.

Projects & stuff under the cut )

I'm a little surprised at how fast the claims started (how do people even have time to read all the summaries that fast?), but it's exciting.

And, well, if no one ends up claiming mine, then at least I won't be under all that pressure to fix the unholy mess that is my rough draft. *eyes silver lining determinedly*

Okay, sent in my draft. It's currently at a little over 60k, and is complete, if in very bare-bones format. Doubtless when I go back in and fix it, the wordcount will go up. You know, when I add in things like adjectives and feelings. :P

Guh.

Going to bed.

The rest of this week is going to be devoted to other long-neglected fic commitments, and then I'm going RIGHT BACK to writing this monster.

Okay, so my draft is going to end up WAY shorter than my final version, but whatever. I have three days to finish. Here goes nothing:

53818 / 80000 words. 67% done!
