I have no idea if Dean ever found out. As much as Sam tends to aim below the belt when they're fighting, I'm not sure he would ever go quite that far. It would break Dean if he knew, I'm quite sure of it.

As for John... I don't know. The prompt wanted him to choose Dean over Sam, and he always has been able to rationalize his way to the worst decisions possible. Same way that Sam eventually started rationalizing his way right into Lucifer's plans. :(
