It's not like I've disappeared or anything

Sorry for not being better with updates and whatever, folks. I was sick as the proverbial dog earlier this week, which put a crimp in all my plans. Then I had to put my eldest kitty Gretzky to sleep yesterday, and I'm kind of a wreck over it.

Things'll get better and I promise I will eventually pull my life in order and start posting fic and updates and all that again as soon as I can.

Right now I'm just trying not to think too hard about the empty spot on my sofa.

Yeah, her previous owners named her that because she enjoyed playing hockey with valuable breakables ("Look, Mummy, it makes a neat smashing sound when I swat it onto the floor!"). She was my baby girl, and I still can't quite wrap my mind around the fact that she's gone.

She really was. She was one of the best-natured cats I ever met, and it was my privilege to be her guardian for over eight years. But she was old and she was suffering and as a responsible pet owner I couldn't in good conscience let her go on the way she was. It would have been irredeemably selfish of me to try to keep her around when she was visibly so unhappy. She was 18 years old, which is a good long life for a cat.

I am so sorry. What an adorable cat. It is always so hard letting a companion go, but I'm sure he was grateful for a happy life and a peaceful end.

I lost my cat of six years just about a year and a half ago, and had to make the same tough decision. My thoughts are with you.

Gretzky was a girl (ignore the name, I didn't pick it), but yeah, she had a good life and her end was quiet and dignified and she spent her last moments cradled in my arms and knowing she was loved. So, you know, it could have been a lot worse for her.
