Love this. I've read it 'bout 3 times now, and I get a little more of the fun/insightful/subtle details you put in.

Dean's great comedy relief in that tense beginning. Then his insistence not on commandeering or ordering Sam not to do this but instead just does the most he can do to help by taking the cutter himself.

The care he takes with Sam...ya know on this last reading I was thinking about how good Dean is to be able to do this complex image freehand, but then he thinks about hell and I realize he's got a *lot* of practice.
Oh, and that ending...it could go anywhere! Sam could've disintegrated like Anna's human body, Dean could be left with nothing left than blood on his hands. Then again, that's just too cruel. Sam could pop up in coach again on a plane, but eh...it's been done. I think I'll choose to believe Dean finds Sam whole and clean, snoozing in the shotgun seat of the Impala, the amulet around his neck glowing softly. ;-)
