In which [livejournal.com profile] ratherastory is an emo princess

Got felled by illness yesterday, got no writing done. The problem with feeling sick and not being able to concentrate but not being able to sleep, either, is that it allows one to obsess unhealthily over BigBang.

So I'm still waiting for someone to pick my prompt, although that's not looking likely at this point. There are 30 gen stories, and only twenty got picked by an artist. I am trying not to feel put-upon because of this (otherwise lovely, I'm sure) girl who basically ensured that no one would pick my summary.

As you can tell, it's not working. [livejournal.com profile] ratherastory is an emo princess and apparently I just CANNOT be a grown-up about this. I'm not proud. *points to icon* Seriously, I could not be more like a six-year-old having a tantrum. WTF is wrong with me?

Anyway, I'm feeling marginally better today, health-wise. Enough that I'm probably going to be able to get more writing done. Am trying to figure out the malaria!fic, but it's resisting all my attempts to make it work. Feh. Maybe "Roses in December" is a better bet. Or anything else on my stupidly long List of Uncompleted Fics.

Ahhhh...then you're obviously not in the Doctor Who fandom. Plenty of dramatic fainting going on over there...

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
No, never watched Dr. Who, although I have lots of friends who are fans. I've learned by osmosis. :)

[identity profile] debbiel66.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Here's what I wish for all this. I wish that the claims post was open to artists only and that writers didn't find out who claimed them until the whole thing was over and posted.

There's really no reason for writers to be in on this... and I think you're handling it very well.

Honestly, your prompt is awesome - it's going to be one that goes on my calendar once the schedule is posted.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
You think I'm handling it well? Wow. I feel like I'm handling it like a six-year-old on a sugar rush. :)

*wibbles*

I agree. They should definitely keep the authors out of the claims post. In fact, if I participate next year, I'm not going to look at the claims post at all until they post the official pairing results. It'll be better for my sanity. :)

And thank you for the kind words! Even if, somehow, I never get an artist, I'll just pull the fic out of BigBang, edit it, and post it independently.

[identity profile] debbiel66.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
You're making me smile... thus, you're handling it well!

The mods are so wonderful, but I'm thinking I'll at least offer it as a suggestion when this over. If the list was posted at the end, then nobody would have to know what was picked when. I *really* don't need to know!

I am not the least bit artistic, but I think your summary would be challenging to some artists hoping to do a simple J&J photo montage. There are probably fewer artists with skills to handle it.

But it will absolutely be chosen... heck, it already has been four times!

[identity profile] surevesta.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Would that be possible for them to do? I know it would have to be rather annoying for them to make a list of artists for a filter...but is that even possible on a community?

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
God, I hope you're right.

*waffles some more*

I think it's a great suggestion. Fewer nervous breakdowns all around.

Although I can't figure how they'd be able to lock the writers out of the post without creating filter, and that might be a little labour-intensive for the mods...

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
They might be able to make filters, but I'm assuming it would be awfully labour-intensive for the mods...

[identity profile] debbiel66.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
You're probably right - it would just be so much less torturous all around if there was a simple way to do it.

[identity profile] sweetsyren.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you learned that the fandom is possibly more mental than SPN?? Cos it really really is sometimes. Like any time the Doctor regenerates.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, well, they've had thirty-odd years to build up the crazy. :)

[identity profile] sweetsyren.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh and they've taken it and ran with it lately.

The latest thing is Amy's skirts. Oh and her coming onto the Doctor. Pearls are being clutched as we speak.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
New Companion? What's wrong with her skirts?

[identity profile] sweetsyren.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Too short. And the fact that she was a kissogram...well! You can just imagine...

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
A kissogram Companion? SHOCKING!

I am appalled!

...

Anybody buy that? *looks around*

Guess not. :D

[identity profile] sweetsyren.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
EXACTLY!

Now imagine saying it and meaning it.

Thats pretty much where some quarters of the fandom are at.

Oh and the whole "Matt Smith's too young/fugly/weird/crap actor to play the Doctor even though I haven't seen him act and never will because i have my knickers in a knot and refuse to watch it!" thing.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL

Isn't that what they said about the last Doctor's incarnation?

[identity profile] sweetsyren.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
And every single other Doctor before him. It's the most entitled and judgy fandom in the history of ever.

There are some little oasis' of calm and reason though. Just not on any of the major comms...

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL

Oh, fandom. You're SO wanky! :D

[identity profile] sweetsyren.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I think your icon has the right idea. In cases such as these it really is the only way to be sure.

As long as i'm on the shuttle.

You got claimed bb. ;) Pg 12!

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I saw!

\o/

No art on the LJ in question, so I have no idea what it's going to look like. Artist in question seems fond of anime... so I guess it'll be an adventure.

LOL in continuing adventures, the person backed out, and the person who originally messed everything up has re-claimed you.

Girl, you are having the worst time of it, aren't you? *tackle-hugs and smishes*

New artist (original artist?) has done some amazing work before. I'm pretty excited for you. :)

(Also, no, I haven't been stalking the thread there looking out for all my flisters, what makes you say that? *shifty eyes*)

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Holy fucking Christ. I have been studiously ignoring the thread, but now I have to go look. It sounds like a train wreck!

It's certainly been, ah...interesting to watch. The mods have been making a lot of mistakes anyway, which is, y'know, fun. You'd think there'd be an easier way...
