Screencap query

Hola, flist!

I've been toying with the idea of playing with screencaps and the like just for the fun of it, but I have NO idea how I'd go about making screencaps. I'm assuming you need software for that, yes? Anyone know whether there's software available for Macs out there for this sort of thing? Recommendations? Anything? Anyone? Bueller?

Thanks!

Why no!

Of course, you'll need something to edit them, which... I dunno. I use a not-so-legal copy of Photoshop CS4.

Cool. It works with DVD Player, then?

(I also have a not-so-legal copy of CS4)

DVD Player? I dunno, what do you mean?

Crap. I lack the technical terms for this.

The application that comes with Macs that plays DVDs.

OH I see what you mean. Yeah, basically it just takes a picture of whatever's on your screen.

You have a Mac? I use screenshot plus - it's a widget for the dashboard and it like the easiest thing to use. It gives you the option of capping the whole screen or a specific window (good for avoiding cropping)

I'm not sure what level of perfection you want with your screencaps, or what kind of changes you'll want to make with them. But my favorite thing to use for your basic picspam purposes is http://skitch.com.

It works with macs, it captures from the mac dvd player, and it lets you put captions or shapes on the caps if you want. Then it lets you upload them to your skitch account, public or private or secret, and gives you a sidebar that tells you urls for embedding the pics in a post, etc.

And all totally free. :) I adore it. I've used it for my own picspams and for the odd fandom secret here and there (usually to do with Adam Lambert. =D )

edited to add: regarding perfection of screencaps, I just meant that it's not what I would use to create fan art or anything, but it's totally fine for anything else in my opinion. :)
