ratherastory: (Podfic)

What needs to be podficced?

Okay, flist.

I'm toying with the idea of doing more podficcing next year. This year is all taken up with the Podbang, but once that's done I'd like to do something like a series of shorter podfics, maybe once a month or once every two weeks, depending on my time constraints and my level of inspiration.

So, in your opinion, what SPN fics out there are crying out to be podficced? (It would be preferable if the author in question is still online reasonably regularly, and/or has already given blanket permission for their stuff to be recorded, but don't let that limit you!)

I guess this is also a not-so-subtly disguised rec request. What have I missed lately while I've been frantically trying to finish up all my fic commitments?

What exactly IS podficcing?

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-11-18 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Podfic! It's an audiorecording of a fic, usually in mp3 format. It's a type of fanwork, basically. You can check the bottom of my master list for the three ones I've recorded, or [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon for a HUGE selection of podfics from a ton of fandoms. :)

[identity profile] nwspaprtaxis.livejournal.com 2010-11-18 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Awesome! So is it a word-for-word reading of a fic or do you put your own spin on the fic?

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-11-18 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
It's word-for-word.

And I know I have a personal interest in this one and have recced it before, and I'm not sure how you feel about podficcing wincest, though this is very PG, but it makes me grin like a loon every time I reread it:

Devastating, but being recced all over for good reason:

Dude, is that 10,000 Miles? If so, no way in HELL am I podficcing that! I can't make it through the story without weeping. :P

[identity profile] de-nugis.livejournal.com 2010-11-18 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
No, it's her short, recent, REALLY FUCKING HORRIBLE LIKE RAINYLEMONS MEETS 10K MILES TOTALLY BRILLIANT SAM IN HELL FIC.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-11-18 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
Jesus. I don't know if I've even read that yet. I'm not sure my heart could take it. But duly noted!

OMG FIC AMAZING. DO NOTE.

Ahahah, I have had this one open in a tab for a few days because I am TOO SCARED to try reading it. *bites nails*

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-11-18 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
She scares me too! I'm glad I'm not alone! :D

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-11-18 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't ever podficced Wincest. I would have to read it first and see if I'm comfortable reading it out loud (I can't even bring myself to write porn 99% of the time, let alone read it out loud: I think I'd end up giggling and thus embarrassing myself). ;)

I'll be sure to check these out! Thanks!

THIS: http://hells-half-acre.livejournal.com/180083.html

Was just posted on Tuesday and it is, imo, more than a little brilliant. Also, I had been imagining a post-re-souled-rehabilitation period similar to this just before it was posted, and it hit the spot juuuuuust right.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-11-18 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man. I just went and read that, and damn. If she says yes, I am so on it.

[identity profile] elsewhere-kels.livejournal.com 2010-11-18 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
RIGHT?? Oh my gosh, I LOVE that "really good fic" feeling. It's been a little while since I've hunkered down for something that ended up being that satisfying, but man if that fic didn't push at least 10 of my buttons. She handles the scenario (which is pretty major, holy cow) with amazing grace and delicacy, but also doesn't walk on eggshells.

Also. Dean being adorably sweet with Sam. Always a plus. XD

[identity profile] werty30.livejournal.com 2010-11-19 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Seconding the vote for "Sam is...", that`s such a great story. Podficcing your own stuff is a good idea, too, lots of authors do that. My favorite fic of yours is Practical Application, just thought I`d mention it.

[identity profile] roque-clasique.livejournal.com 2010-11-18 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
PODFIC FUSION!!!

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-11-18 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
...

I dunno. It feels weird to podfic my own stuff. Would it be weird? I know you're going to, but you're in a category of awesome all your own. :)

*wibbles*

[identity profile] roque-clasique.livejournal.com 2010-11-18 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
I thought it might be weird too but was reassured it wasn't. I feel more comfortable butchering my own stuff than someone else's, y'know?

category of awesome all your own.

*snorts*

Tactful ;)

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-11-18 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
No, it's true! THERE WAS NO IRONY INTENDED, DAMMIT!

*wibbles unhappily*

I totally think you're awesome...

[identity profile] hereare-mysins.livejournal.com 2010-11-18 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Any one of [livejournal.com profile] maychorian or [livejournal.com profile] maskedfangirl's fics. Seriously. Like, ANY OF THEM. But if I have to choose...

[livejournal.com profile] maychorian - Entertaining Angels
[livejournal.com profile] maskedfangirl - Apocrypha of Chuck

:D

Those...are...really...long. :/ And Apocrypha is the beginning of a trilogy.

Hmmm....I really like Gaelicspirit, or Muffy Morrigan's stuff. IF they haven't already had all of their stuff podficced, I'm fairly sure they'd be game. I don't know how to link in a reply, because I am technologically impaired, sorry! :(

I'm still interested in trying podficcing, I totally dropped the ball in September after I found out I had to learn an hour and a half worth of ghost stories for my tour, and my brain couldn't handle more projects. When my computer is up and running again, I'll start poking at things to learn how to do it :)
