Writing stuff for the New Year
So I signed up for
getyourwordsout and pledged myself for 350k words next year. It looks really intimidating at first, but then I went back and did a quick (or, really, not-so-quick) count of all my words last year, and, yeah, I can do it.
2010 published wordcount was ~450k
2010 total wordcount was ~505k.
So I can definitely make 350k next year. In fact, I am going to give myself a secondary goal of doubling my total wordcount between January 1st and December 31st 2011.
Yes, that's one million words, or an average of 2,740 words a day. I'm a little freaked out, but it's an exciting prospect, so. :)
I have plenty of other goals and projects for the New Year, but I figured I'd record the writing goal here, since this is where I do 99% of my writing these days.

Also, after watching the video I talked about in this post, I have come to view writer's block with more equanimity. I figure that by sitting in my chair and typing away, I am fulfilling my end of the writing bargain. I will not create brilliance every time, but as long as I'm writing, that's half the battle. :)
As for time? Well, I write fast(ish) for one, and I have a wacky work schedule and erratic sleep patterns. It's not too hard to find several hours a week in which to write.

I figured people wouldn't be too displeased about that. ;)

*ponders*
Also, where is the missing 55,000 words? Hmmm?

The 55,000 words are early drafts of things that never got published because they weren't working, for the most part.

Gah.
And ah. Yes. I have about 36,000 words that were pulled out of drafts because they weren't working. I know the feeling well.

I am feeling better, and as a result I am back at work all through Christmas. *blows into noisemaker*
