ratherastory: (Huh?)

Weird.

So the [livejournal.com profile] pingback_bot informs me that After the End made it onto the SPN News Letter. Which is really cool, but... I don't get it. Why that story and not others? I've been on there a couple of times (which, no, really, yay!), but I cannot for the life of me tell what sort of criteria they use.

Confused cat is confused.

Hey
I think they try to get as much of everything as they can in the newsletter. The thing is this fandom is ridiculously hugely productive, Like scary productive. I don't know how 3 or 4 people would be able to catch it all.
I do know that everytime I have asked them to post one of my stories they've done so. I think it is just pretty random really. They have every level of writing posted,I think it's just what they catch.
The H50 newsletter catches everything posted on LJ as far as I can see and they are still only half the size most of the time and only 3 days a week.
I think you'd need 6 monkeys chained to their computers to catch everything the SPN fandom cranks out.

I've posted 3 h50 fic to the same coms and only one got caught. *shrug*

[identity profile] jesseofthenorth.livejournal.com 2011-02-03 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I stand corrected! ;D
I still don't know how either place does it though, there is just so much stuff produced.
By the way I loved "Ask and Tell" and I thought blowing up Danny's car with Steve's horrible taste in music was inspired ;)

[identity profile] shinysylver.livejournal.com 2011-02-03 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed my fic. :)

What I found interesting about the newsletter is that it picked up my PWP but not "Ask and Tell" so I had no idea what it was looking for. Either way I was glad "A Close Shave" got picked up but I'm not placing much importance on it. It's a nice tool but I'm still reading through the coms myself so I don't miss anything. :) Obsessively reading through them....

[identity profile] jesseofthenorth.livejournal.com 2011-02-03 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I'm trying for the obsessive part ... but I always feel like I'm missing something ;)

[identity profile] shinysylver.livejournal.com 2011-02-03 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Tell me about it. I'm obsessively bookmarking everything into my diigo every night to read later with the intent of thoroughly tagging it all and now I have like 200 unread fic just waiting for me. And that's just from a month and a half. I'm never going to catch up. But it sure is fun trying. :)

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2011-02-03 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I missed the boat with SPN, but I am obsessively bookmarking every H50 story I come across for future reference.

Hey, is there a storyfinders comm for H50?

[identity profile] shinysylver.livejournal.com 2011-02-03 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
There is a fic finder com:

http://community.livejournal.com/hawaiificfinder/

It made me very excited when my obsessive diigo tagging actually meant I knew a fic that was requested. It's the small things in life.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2011-02-03 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I know what you mean! It makes me all fuzzy inside when I find a fic at [livejournal.com profile] spnstoryfinders.

Thanks! *runs off to add*

[identity profile] jesseofthenorth.livejournal.com 2011-02-03 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish there was a rec comm for H50!
Not just a list of whats out there.
But it's all good cuz I'm still getting caught up on fic and there is more coming all the time!

[identity profile] shinysylver.livejournal.com 2011-02-03 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
If there's not one we could always make one. ;)

How do they usually work?

(What am I saying? I have never modded a com...but it could be fun. This fandom makes me crazy.)

[identity profile] jesseofthenorth.livejournal.com 2011-02-03 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Well it basically boils down to : read everything and tell people what you liked. Do you know about [livejournal.com profile] crack_impala or [livejournal.com profile] j2_recs? They basically post what they think is the best. There are several different formats. If you were thinking about maybe doing this I might be interestted. PM if you decide to think about it more seriously

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2011-02-03 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Do it!

I will cheer you on. I can't take on another comm (I still have [livejournal.com profile] ohsam and one other comm that's going to go up soon, as soon as I finish writing the intro posts), but H50 needs a rec comm!

[identity profile] jesseofthenorth.livejournal.com 2011-02-03 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
OK well we are seriously maybe probably gonna but we are both dilettantes when it comes to running a comm, so let me pick your brai. What are a couple of pit-falls to avoid when starting this!

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2011-02-03 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, man. Okay. Why don't you guys email me dbrune4 @ yahoo . com, and I'll fill you in. Comment-boxes are NOT suited for my kind of long-windedness.

:)

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2011-02-03 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't even know ther was a H50 newsletter! Link, please? :)

[identity profile] shinysylver.livejournal.com 2011-02-03 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't know newsletters existed at all until it picked me up. I'm kinda new to the whole LJ fandom experience.:)

[identity profile] jesseofthenorth.livejournal.com 2011-02-03 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh boy are you ever in for some fun!

[identity profile] shinysylver.livejournal.com 2011-02-03 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I avoided the crazy of lj for 8 years of fandom. Just skimming the surface. Dabbling a little here and there but now I am being sucked down like a whirlpool. This fandom will be the death of me. But I'll die happy.

[identity profile] jesseofthenorth.livejournal.com 2011-02-03 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Well dude I'm still in SPN fandom so I I know there are levels to this. H50 is totally sucking me down to though. SO MUCH FUN!

[identity profile] shinysylver.livejournal.com 2011-02-06 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
Apparently I was mistaken. The newsletter did catch all of my stories. The ping bot thingie only notified me for one of them. I wonder why that is?
