Spoilers and the handling thereof

Dear flist,

Most of you know that I am a rabid spoiler-phobe when it comes to Supernatural. For those of you who are new to my LJ, well, now you know.

PLEASE don't spoil me in comments for upcoming episodes. This includes trailers, teasers and promo pics. I don't look at ANY of it, because it makes me ridiculously happy to be surprised by an episode. :)

I also ask, as a courtesy, that you keep spoilers behind a cut in your own LJs. Now, it's your journal, and you are welcome to do as you like. If you are morally opposed to cutting for spoilers, that's fine. Just know that that means I will either remove your LJ from my flist, or at the very least filter it so that I won't be able to read your entries during the TV season. Fair warning. :)

Thus far, this hasn't been a problem. I've just seen spoilers flying fast and thick all over the place, and with the final four episodes barreling down on us I thought I would make my position clear.

Thank you!

No worries! I always try to put spoilers behind a cut. I wish I was a spoilerphobe but damnit, I can't stop. :(

I saw a few spoilers last year and found they significantly diminished my enjoyment of the episode. So now I deliberately avoid them. :)

I started reading them during the third season and haven't been able to stop since. At least they don't leak the sides anymore!

[identity profile] swaggerdoodle.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. They used to leak sections of the actual script online. We called them sides. I remember being really pissed that I read them for Lazarus Rising. But then again, we all knew Castiel was going to be an angel. Kripke fooled nobody! LOL!

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! I watched Season 4 with no spoilers at all because I marathoned seasons 1-4 in about four weeks when I first discovered show back in late 2009. So I was shocked by Castiel. Shocked! :D

[identity profile] swaggerdoodle.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Lucky. I started watching from the jump. I'm so torn because on one hand I'm sure that it's a better viewing experience to see it all together in such a short amount of time, but I wouldn't trade my fandom experience for the world even if I'm still a NNF around these parts.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I love the fandom experience and I'm sad I didn't have it from the start. I watched Season 4 in one day, perched on the sofa and clutching my cat in my arms because I was so distressed. The cat was thrilled at the attention, and has never forgiven me since for not repeating the experience. ;)

xD

Yep. I was there for a lot of the crap that went down (writers strike was probably the worst omg). And it sucked but was exciting at the same time every season finale because you never knew if it was going to be picked up or not. Good times!

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
God, I can't imagine all the stress in Season 3 between the strike and the evil cliffhanger of doom... Guh.

I was so horribly spoiled for S4 and S5 that it just almost totally ruined those seasons for me. I've been living under a rock for S6 and so far so good (with the exception for maybe one or two episodes and those are only via certain images). So Thanks for this! :)

I will not tell you that the season ends with the Impala waking up from a long, strange dream about a family of parasites living in her.

GDI SPOILED FOREVER!

*shakes fist*

Zort wins!
Best anti-spoiler response ever :D

I find that the anticipation of the show (SPN & Southland) is even better when I see the previews or read the spoilers and I haven't been disappointed, yet. Although, they do make me crazy some times because I swear I've seen stuff in the previews that doesn't make it into the show.

To each her own.

I guess posting fake stuff would be equally annoying for you?

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Enh. I wouldn't click on it no matter what. Some of my friends post "fake" spoilers like: "This week on Supernatural, the brothers face an impossible choice that threatens their brotherly bond!" which always makes me giggle. :D

[identity profile] lobrien0914.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Doh! That's almost like every freaking show...ROFLMAO! We know that!

Amen and ditto.

[identity profile] mollyamory.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty back and forth - some days I want spoilers, some days I want none... some days I want mood spoilers, some days that's the last thing I want... so anyway, I'm pretty militant about keeping any spoilers I talk about behind a plain jane expressionless cut tag just in case. :)

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 11:27 am (UTC)(link)
I try to resist even on the days when I'm dying of curiosity, because I've found that when I indulge my curiosity I invariably end up enjoying the episode less. This is mostly because in the posts where I find spoilers there are also a SLEW of comments going "Oh noes! This is going to RUIN SHOW FOREVER!" and that seriously harshes my squee. I have unfriended or screened pretty much everyone on my flist who posts negative meta or otherwise harshes my squee, because, really, fandom is my happy place and they don't get to ruin that for me.

I try to be militant about this in my own journal (up to and including cut text on my ep reactions and icon usage -- I abide by the "give it a week" policy on the vaguer stuff like ep titles and icons and things), since while I WILL look at some spoilers, I know there's loads of folks on my flist who, like my father, prefer not to know anything in advance.

Which is to say, if you catch me in messing this up, do smack me!

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2011-04-29 11:24 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, you are really not the problem, trust me on this. In fact, most of my flist isn't and the ones who are got radically struck from my reading page a while back -right along with people who post negative meta, hate on one of the characters, or otherwise harsh my squee. ;)

I'm soooo with you.
Not as drastic as you, since I can't keep myself from watching trailers and promo-photos. But anything else - and I'm running far far away.
