Oh, I never expected Dean to do the math. He and Sam were busy trying to keep their parents from dying. :)

The age difference between the actors bothers me for this episode only, because John and Mary went from being baby-faced twenty-year-olds to looking practically middle-aged in about five years (math isn't my strong suit either). Even with the stress of raising Dean, it can't account for all of it. ;)
