Quick, through the Gate to the Alpha Site!

That will only be funny to people who watch StarGate. Anyway.

I love LJ and I am furious beyond words at the [expletive deleted] who attacked it as a cowardly political ploy to thwart the democratic process. Seriously, hackers: screw you sideways with something dull and rusty.

That being said, I do make a point of cross-posting pretty much everything I write. If LJ ever goes down again I will be posting in these alternate locations first, and then coming back here when access returns. I will be updating my links list on my LJ sidebar to reflect this too.

You can find me at the following places:

Fanfiction.net: aka the Pit of Voles. I cross-post everything but my RPF there. I also post under a different handle (my original net handle that I don't use for fic anymore but haven't changed on ff.net). favicon Mousme

AO3: aka Archive of Our Own. I'm at favicon ratherastory

Dreamwidth: favicon ratherastory

Really dumb question - I've gone through and imported my entries to DW a couple times, but is there a way to have that happen automatically?

I really prefer LJ to all other sites, but it just seems prudent, you know...

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2011-07-29 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Alas, not that I'm aware of. I know that DW allows you to cross-post TO LiveJournal, but the other way around doesn't exist.

I try to make a point of backing everything up regularly, but I forget a lot, too.

I tend to only think about it when LJ is down and when I can't back anything up.

The main thing that just guts me about LJ's vulnerability is all the stories and creative work that aren't found anywhere else... writers who have left fandom, etc. They would just be gone, which is kind of tragic.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2011-07-29 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
I know!

I should start encouraging people to put up their work at AO3, for posterity. That way even if they leave they can "orphan" their work and still have it up for others to read.

Alpha Site !! LOL

The most galling part of this is that this is all about a corrupt political process wee can have no hope of impacting.
It makes me furious that it is all to shut someone up.
Dirty cheating b@$tards!

Exactly! It's not like I can make my voice heard at the Russian polls. >:(

[identity profile] debbiel66.livejournal.com 2011-07-29 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
You should! My first fandom had a single site for almost all the fandom's fic that was a victim of a random attack this year, and the entire site went down. I used to get reviews every week from that site, even years later, and now they're all gone. I wouldn't even have any of those stories anywhere if a friend hadn't backed them all up and asked if she could post them on a different website.

We forget that the Internet is a little like building our house on sand...

It also kind of makes me wonder if the people this is aimed at influencing even know what is going on.
Do the Russian voters even know?
I hate crooked politics >:(

Stargate. Sigh. I DID know exactly what you meant when I saw the title.

I just can't help but love SG-1. I can't wait for the inevitable reboot in a few years. With new showrunners. but hopefully not darker and edgier.

Ahem. I'm...um....seisachtheia on dreamwidth, I think. I'll go add ya over there.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2011-07-29 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
God, I hope it's not darker and edgier. Stargate: Universe really sucked, as much as I wanted it not to. :P

[identity profile] claudiapriscus.livejournal.com 2011-07-29 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
SG:U made me rage. Plus, once you suck the joy and fun out of stargate, what's left? Two dimensional characters and shoddy writing. I never realized how much the actors and a sense of humor was carrying the whole thing.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2011-07-29 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Tell me about it. I wasn't that big a fan of Atlantis, because I only liked John and Rodney (and that Czech guy whose name escapes me) and the doctor whom they then killed off. Weir was useless and Tayla was a stereotype and I was disappointed they couldn't come up with a female character as awesome as Carter.

[identity profile] claudiapriscus.livejournal.com 2011-07-29 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Zelenka! I always have to do a double take when the actor shows up elsewhere, because I keep expecting to hear the accent. And the doctor was Carson, who I really had no strong feelings about.

TPTB for Stargate really had issues with women. For all that Supernatural keeps killing them off, I will give them credit for occasionally throwing in female characters that seem as real and three dimensional as the main characters. (Even if they could use a bit of variety outside Motherly vs Sexy)
onthehill: yuri plisetsky gives a thumbs down (Duo excited)

So to be sure - you're crossposting most stuff to Dreamwidth? 'Cos if you are, I'll friend you there and take you off here...

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2011-07-30 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
I'm using DW as a back-up more than anything. I go there and import up all my entries on a semi-regular basis. :)

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2011-07-30 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, apart from Carter they never came up with another good, strong female lead. Or another good, strong female role period. I am forced to conclude that Carter was a fluke.

[identity profile] claudiapriscus.livejournal.com 2011-07-30 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
From what I've heard, a lot of Carter being Carter was thanks to Amanda Tapping, who was persistent when it came to trying to insert some more life into her character (compare how she's first introduced to later seasons). But It wasn't just her- I think that was true even with the guys.
