30 Snapshots: This Never Happened

Clearly, I'm nuts.

So I decided to join [livejournal.com profile] spn_30snapshots. I'm going to use it as an exercise in concision ('cause writing 1,000 words is an effort), and as a way to explore my "Never Happened" 'verse, which is floating in my head but doesn't want to be written just yet.

Gah.

I picked the 365 table, since it seems to fit in best with a future-based fic that never happened, right? Right. That's what I thought.

01. dawn 06. dusk 11. autumn 16. winter 21. spring 26. summer
02. morning 07. noon 12. night 17. yesterday 22. tomorrow 27. today
03. past 08. present 13. future 18. sunrise 23. sunset 28. twilight
04. hours 09. days 14. months 19. years 24. minutes 29. weeks
05. solstice 10. full moon 15. midnight 20. equinox 25. eclipse 30. time

I'm guessing this is going to end up serving as my master post, so there you go. :)

An exercise in concision is right. My first snapshot came out to 956 and it was HARD! But exercise is the only way to get proficient at something and writing 30 fics of under 1000 words should make us more concise, right? Right? And it's also a great way to work on something you haven't totally worked out yet. My snapshots are going to be the kind you keep in a shoebox. All mixed up and in no particular order. I think that table will be perfect for your story. Can't wait!

That's what I was thinking. The "Never Happened" stuff keeps popping into my head as teeny-tiny vignettes, so I think it'll work nicely in this format.

God, I want to do one of these SO BADLY. I always see these 30snapshots posts and I just get all drooly with want.

This should be mega brill' as always. Look forward to reading!

Doooo iiiiiiiit!

They're short! And there's no time limit!

[identity profile] pkwench.livejournal.com 2010-03-29 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
But, schooooooooooool. WAAAAAAAAAH. I mean, I'd have to just take the piss on the next 6 weeks and do nothing good.

Nothing but think about it. And think. And formulate ideas.

How DO those things work anyway?

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-03-29 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
I have no idea what your second sentence means, but oh well. :) (Seriously. "Take the piss?" What does that mean?)

Ideas are good. I approve.

The idea is you go, you sign up. You think of a character(s) or pairing you want to write about, and then you pick a prompt table to go with it. There are 12 word-prompt tables, a poetry-prompt table, an image-prompt table, and a lyric-prompt table.

You then write 30 pieces of fiction (or create fanart) between 100 and 1,000 words to go with the prompts. You don't have to write them in order, either.

It would have made more sense if I'd typed 'take a piss' instead of 'take the piss' which is another thing entirely. LOL Glory be to typos. The former means roughly the same as screw off/screw it. In this instance, screw the writing for 6 weeks and do nothing fun. Take the piss is one of those horrible Brit things I picked up from the ex which I gather is similar to mock the hell out of something/someone. Stupid ex. LOL

I assume then that multiple people write the same characters/pairings? Hmmmm. Hmmm again. *goes to peek*

It says to post the table in my journal. But, my journal is flocked. Hmm, again.

You're an enabler. You know that, I trust.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-03-29 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Hee!

Uh, they must have some sort of provision for people whose LJ's are f-locked. Have you checked the FAQ?

And yes, I enable shamelessly.

*enables more*

[identity profile] pkwench.livejournal.com 2010-03-29 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
I did, yes. It pretty much just said not to f-lock those posts. But ... if I were going to do such a thing, I could just throw out another journal. True, one might remind me that I had a second journal for all of this writing stuff and I deleted it in a mad fit sometime last October/November after having it for a big month. But ... it would be handy. *contemplates* Gah.

Great to see you signed up for this. I've only done 2 of mine, but I love the idea of indulging my fic whims without the need for a long, cohesive story.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-03-29 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
:)

Thank you!

That's very much along the lines of what I was thinking. The Five Years That Never Happened doesn't seem to want to be a long, cohesive story, so I'm going to indulge it and see if I can't do it in small doses instead.
