ratherastory: (BigBang)

Because I haven't flailed about this enough

Okay, so I made the minimum wordcount goal for BigBang. The problem? The story is nowhere close to finished. *headdesk*

I have thirty days, including today, to finish this story. I have no idea, really, how long it's going to end up being, wordcount-wise, but realistically the best I'll be able to to manage by April 30th is the equivalent of NaNoWriMo, which is another 50K. So, arbitrarily, I am declaring this to be a 80K-word fic, just BECAUSE, and I'm updating the wordcount meter to reflect that.

24837 / 80000 words. 31% done!

If I end up finishing the story before I hit that wordcount, then praise be to all the higher powers and hallelujah!

Also, I have to shake my fist at [livejournal.com profile] ariadnes_string, because she prompted Dean with malaria over at [livejournal.com profile] hoodie_time and that's just NOT FAIR because I should be writing my BigBang and not getting all excited about writing post-apocalyptic mosquitoes. (That made sense in my head)

AUGH!

Wordcount goal for tomorrow morning is 30K, because tonight is night shift and (if it's quiet) it has to count for two days' worth of writing. AUGH!

Hey, I'm just thrilled to hear that it's going to be a really loooong story - is that evil? Big Bang-length and longer are my favorite kind. I'll send you scribbly thoughts!

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

*continues to scribble madly*

I'm not usually one for writing long fics (crack stories about being turned into dogs aside), so this is a bit of an exercise for me. :P

they're post-apocalyptic mosquitos? This is just getting better and better! bwahaha

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
They are post-apocalyptic mosquitoes. I just had a thought about the fic, though, so part of it needs re-writing, but I think it'll be worth the sacrifice. Hope you don't mind the extra wait. :)

Post-Apocalyptic mosquitos sound kinda awesome...although so does your bigbang. Good luck (:

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not as awesome as the phrasing makes it sound. ;)

Gah. So much writing, so little time...

Post Apocalyptic mosquitoes are the most awesome kind! You MUST write about them! I envy you so much a job during which you can write when it's not busy. Although when it IS busy, I imagine your job is quite nerve wracking. A dispatcher for law enforcement must have a pressure filled job. Your Big Bang will be awesome.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the job is pretty crazy when it gets busy, so it makes up for when it's quiet, I guess.

I love my job, though. It's a pretty sweet deal. :)

holy crap. 80000??!!

You need some coffee or something? like, intravenously?

side note - how long can you spend writing a day, and how many words is your average day count? [inquiring/nosy minds want to know...]

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I mainline coffee already. I'm a police dispatcher: it pretty much replaced my blood supply a long time ago.

My writing time and output varies a lot. On my days off, if I have nothing else to do (which is rare), I can spend the whole day writing. I usually spend about five to six hours writing then if inspiration strikes (which isn't always).

The maximum I've ever written in a day is about 12,000 words.

On average, my daily wordcount is about 2,000-3,000 words, but that's not really representative, because there are lots of days when I don't write at all. I think it all averages out to about 1,500 words a day.

When I'm in the "zone" as one of my friends puts it, I do have a pretty scary output. Whether it's all good quality is another matter entirely. ;)

That's crazy! I must admit, I'm jealous!

I've been trying to write on my BB steadily since I started it about three weeks ago. I'm only at about 17000k. I think it will clock in around 30, so I should be okay, but I'm starting to panic! This weekend's goal is 6000 which would be a really good weekend for me. I can write more if I'm really in the groove, but the muse is fickle lately. I like my story, and I know the 'high-points,' it's those in between parts I can't stand cranking out.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
No one likes writing the transition scenes. Transition scenes are both difficult to write and "not as interesting," from the point of view of the writer. :)

Don't be jealous. I tend to burn out on writing if I'm not careful. Churn out a gazillion words, and then stop producing for months. The feast-or-famine lifestyle isn't great. ;)

Congrats on doing so well on your BigBang!

2000 words on March 22... 25000 on April 1. You`re a machine.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
*blushes*

It's all quantity. I have no idea if it's any good. ;)

But thank you for the compliment and the encouragement! It's very much appreciated.
