Ow!

I just hit a massive wall. Don't know what I did, but suddenly there is no writing happening. Not fic writing, anyway. WTF, self? I barely got 500 words written yesterday. I think the 10,000-odd words on BigBang + 8,000-odd words of "Heaven Without You" broke me. Crap. I don't have time for this. The BigBang is not going to write itself, and I am WAY behind.

Crappity crap crap.

Three weeks left, and I'm only about 25% done. *cries*

[livejournal.com profile] ariadnes_string: I am still working on your malaria prompt. Consider it a late birthday present, 'kay? I have to re-work some bits, and it's not done yet, but it's coming along slowly. :)

Oh, hey, flist? Where do you get your really good SPN icons? I'm looking for a couple of specific-ish icons (Chuck and Gabriel icons, that is), but my Google-fu is failing abysmally. Help a girl out?

as far as block goes, my remedies are
a) don't even think about it for 24 hours, on purpose, and when it gets impossible to keep your mind off writing then you can go back.
b) read through the comment_fic of the day, read the fills, write a prompt, explore other people's brains. that one almost always comes through for me.

ohh, I totally want a Chuck icon. Sadly, I make pretty much all of my icons myself, so I don't know a ton of good icon journals.

re:icons– When I was looking for some good SPN ones, I went through back-issues of spnnewsletter (there's a section for icons!) and clicked on links that seemed like they might be up my alley. I also looked to see who people credited for icons that I saw around and liked. Not a perfect solution, but it might be a place to start?

supernatu_icons? supericonorama? good_snicons?

Damn the walls. DAMN THEM.

Since one of my primary sources cleared out her entire journal, my main method if I don't make 'em myself is to go to Google and just type in, like, "Castiel icons" and see what pops up. Usually the first couple will be something that will lead to an LJ comm with tags and things. . . .

And OMG I hear you on that wall. I just spent the last several days climbing one. The only advice I can offer is not to get too annoyed with people who tell you to "just write, dammit" as though it were that easy. Also, editing what you've already got done can a) get you thinking in a less stressful way about your fic and b) make you feel accomplished even when you don't get anything written.

Oh, and whatever you do, DON'T decide you're gonna try playing a simulation game for, like, half an hour, just while you watch your fake pundit show, but then you'll definitely get to writing -- because the next thing you know it'll be three AM and you'll be wondering where the night went.

My writer's block is too horrible ot try and commit to The BigBang but hopefully I can try and do it in the future.

I still have prompts to write, blah. I hate writer's block.

Not saying that my icons are really good, but I make all my own icons. I don't like using other people's.

[identity profile] chiiyo86.livejournal.com 2010-04-07 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, writer's block sucks - been there, done that. But you can do it!

Also, malaria prompt sounds good. :)

I hate writer's block. I had such plans to write my eyes out over spring break and managed just a few little things. If only it was a fountain and we could say 'yes, 10,000 words to this today' instead of 'holy crap, I've got nothing!' and then write 7k on a random prompt. LOL

[identity profile] tifaching.livejournal.com 2010-04-07 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too. The only things I've gotten done recently are drabbles. 100 words at at time is about my limit.

[identity profile] tifaching.livejournal.com 2010-04-07 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Damn the blocks! All the suggestions above sound good, but when you're stuck it can be hard to get started again. Since I have no ideas of my own, I will just wish you luck and say I know you'll come up with something to get you started and once you do you'll bang out the rest of your fic in no time.

[identity profile] dante-s-hell.livejournal.com 2010-04-07 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Everyone must be suffering from writer's block. Maybe it's the spring weather. Hang in there and try not to pressure yourself.

Also, if you want to hold off on our SPN viewing party until after the weekend so that you can write, that's no problem. Whatever you decide is okay with me.

Take care.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I definitely don't want to hold off! I love our parties! Well, the one we've had so far, anyway.

Whee!

Me too!!! Tomorrow night?

The thing about writing--about any creative endeavor--is that there are times when it just doesn't happen. Back in grad school, I started my dissertation about a week after I enrolled, but, during third year, I really didn't make any progress. I ran out of steam, I had a lot of external stress in my life (major health problem, wedding) but once that resolved, and I gave myself some time to recover emotionally, I was able to start working again pretty easily.

In other words, the work will come when it comes. And if you don't finish your BB on time, well, we don't know where you live, so we can't exactly hunt you down and kill you for it ; )

[identity profile] greeneyes-fan.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
In still other words, this is supposed to be a hobby. If it ain't fun, you can back off.

[identity profile] ariadnes-string.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
don't worry about--there's no rush! I'm just pretending my actual birthday didn't happen, anyway--so anything that lets me celebrate it on a later date is welcome :)

Good luck with the writing--I admire all you big bang writers!
