Open letter to self, redux

Dear Self,

Please to be concentrating on writing your BigBang. I understand that 5.16 was traumatic and that you're upset because you have to go to work tonight instead of watching the latest episode of Supernatural. I get it, I do.

But you are less than HALFWAY through your BigBang, you have exactly three weeks left, and you're stuck on a plot point. So WORK ON THAT.

This is not the time to thinking about a new story called "Flagstaff" in which you go about exploring what happened just before and during those two weeks Sam apparently ran away from home. Just, just NO.

It is a BAD PLAN, self.

No love,

Me

I THINK IT'S A GREAT PLAN.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
YOU WOULD.

So does my brain, apparently.

BigBang? What BigBang?

*headdesk*

[identity profile] pkwench.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
If you write it, I'll let you dissect my brain for any prompting/fixing/suggesting fu I might have that could help you with your stuck plot point. LOL 5x16 was just so hard, but it was also a wall-to-wall promptfest with with the Flagstaff, the John Winchester, the after life, the holidays, the wee!Dean, the new take on the Winchester marriage, Mom Winchester, icky, creepy Z ... prompt-o-frickin'-rama, man. It's hard not to get snagged by it.

Conversely, you could just wait it out, finish your BigBang, and fic your brain out when it's done. :)

You, Madam, are a shameless enabler.

I am going to beat my head against my BigBang some more, but I would *love* to be able to throw ideas at you at some point soonish if I can't work it all out in my head.

*smooches you to death*

[identity profile] debbiel66.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
That is just too funny because I've been having the exact same temptation since watching the episode.

Writing Big Bang versus write Flagstaff story.

There must be a lot of that going around... :)

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
The Show really ought to know better. DO THEY NOT KNOW IT'S BIGBANG SEASON?

*sigh*

So true.

So far I haven't succumbed. Have 31,000 friggin' words written with at least a few thousand left to go.

But that Flagstaff scene ate my mind...

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
That whole episode at my mind.

Part of me wants to write about the freaking Botanical Gardens, too. :P

[identity profile] debbiel66.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I would really like to know why they were both at the Botanical Gardens on a field trip.

There's gotta be a story there. :)

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Could be as simple as Older Students Acting As Chaperones, with a nice bonding moment between Sam and Dean when they realize they both like orchids or something. ;)

Or it could be a giant freaking casefic in which Dean ends up hunting something with his father and he tracks it to the Botanical Gardens on the same day that Sam is scheduled to go for a field trip and... oh no. *goes to scribble idea in notebook*

Crap.

[identity profile] debbiel66.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the idea of the casefic... hey, you could have a second Big Bang with that one. :)

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my GOD stop giving me ideas!

But I want that story! But I also want your big bang. But -- but --

Welcome to the inside of my head. Population: me and all the voices. :P

I know the feeling. Of course, I have to add in all the people who've professed to want timeshare space in my brain.

Only a quarter the way done or not, you're making mad progress on that big bang story. I can't imagine writing 10,000 words in a day.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I can write fast, yes. The problem is that I think I can't write fast *enough* to get this story finished in time. :P

I can't timeshare space in my brain or anyone else's. I'd fear for everyone else's sanity.

I did, too, but then they were all so insistent.

I totally still have faith in you!

[identity profile] scarletsherlock.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
*CHEERS YOU ON* YOUUU CAN DOOO EEEEET

But NGL I would read the hell outta that story!

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh.

Knowing me I'll end up caving and writing it, unless the new episode inspires something equally as shiny to write.

*sigh*

I have the attention span of a gnat.

[identity profile] tifaching.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"unless the new episode inspires something equally as shiny to write." Gosh, what are the chances? Inspiration abounds in every episode, damn it.

[identity profile] peppervl.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I would say bad, but I like the idea.

Also? I have already succumbed to the temptation to write a fic "fixing" what happened in the episode with the amulet an such. And it'll be gen. Because I don't have enough to write. (Three current stories & 6 more waiting in the wings.)

This is why it makes perfect sense for me to write a 15k gen fic about young Sam 'n Dean showing up in the motel room and being upset about the amulet and it being the key to getting them back to their own time.

[identity profile] tifaching.livejournal.com 2010-04-08 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"and you're stuck on a plot point." Damn plot points. It'd be so much easier to fic without plot. However, I can't see you writing a plotless story. Because they suck and your stories rock. I can see you writing a plotty story about Flagstaff though, after you have an aha moment in your bigbang, 'cause whatever's under those bars is already making me want to read!
