I don't even know if this is a meme

[livejournal.com profile] mimblexwimble asked this, and I thought: hey, cool! So I guess now it's a meme even if it wasn't before.

This is pretty much a fic journal, so I'm guessing y'all know next to squat about me.

So go ahead: ask me anything, anything at all. What do you want to know about me?

I'll answer one question every 500 words I write today, so think of it as helping me to write my BigBang. You're doing me a favour! ;)

Cool - I wanna play :)

Ummm...your job seems like it keeps you really busy so, what do you do?

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-17 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm a dispatcher for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. I work rotating twelve-hour shifts, which is why I'm around online at really random intervals.

*goes off to write another 500 words*

*sends you a smooch*

I ought to be back in Treehouse mode by Monday at the latest. :)

[identity profile] sweetsyren.livejournal.com 2010-04-17 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay - so i'm officially jealous of your interesting job. I work in IT. FAIL. lol

*cheerleads*

Ah yeah bb! lol *smooches back*

Awesomesauce! We've missed your snark. And there are 3 new boys that need a good snarking :)

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-17 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, IT is an important job! It's what keeps my job easy to do. :)

Computer stuff makes me vaguely panicky. ;)

[identity profile] sweetsyren.livejournal.com 2010-04-17 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not for everyone but I enjoy it. I get to play with stuff id never get to play with any other way. And if I mess up - it's not my money!

...

My company probably wouldn't appreciate that statement though. ;)

Your icon gives me joy. I want to steal it.

Do you have a lot of writing experience prior to joining up with the Cult here? Because you've produced a lot of really good stuff in a very short time.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-17 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah. I've been writing since I was eight years old. Until last September it was all original fiction. Then I started a Dresden Files fanfic (which I have yet to finish, oops), and in October I started watching SPN, and that was that. I was a goner.

I've only ever managed to finish one long piece of fiction, and that was a zombie novel in 2006. Otherwise I've written a couple of serials (one of which is currently at about 200,000 words and languishing in a word file somewhere) and a bunch of short stories and a few poems scattered here and there.

In short, I do write a lot. I've never been officially published, though.

[identity profile] tifaching.livejournal.com 2010-04-17 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
When did you start posting fic online and what made you decide to do it?

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-17 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
The first time I posted fanfic online was September of last year, on ff.net.

I'm not sure why I decided to do it. I've posted my writing online before, have been doing that since 2004 or thereabouts, but it was always original fiction until recently.

I like having an audience for my writing, though, always have. I'm not one of those people who writes "for myself." I like the pats, and the constructive criticism, and the feedback. It's the big payoff for me, although I enjoy the process too. :)

Do you have any siblings, and if you do how close are you to them?

(I love hearing about other people's sibling stories!)

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-17 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm an only child, so alas I have no sibling stories.

I grew up with a pair of fraternal twins who were my best friends and kind of like a brother and sister to me, so I have stories about them. We haven't been close in about fifteen years, though: we kind of grew apart as teenagers, which makes me sad. I do keep in touch with them, though.

[identity profile] pkwench.livejournal.com 2010-04-17 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
We're going to get deep and personal here ... you have to go dinner and dancing (ANY kind of dancing to ANY kind of music) with one SPN character. Who do you go with, why, where, and other amusing details. BIG IMPORTANT STUFF! :D

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-17 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee!

I'd totally take out Sarah to a fancy French restaurant, and then she wouldn't have to settle for a beer, because I know my wines. :D

Then I'd take her line dancing, just to see the expression on her face (I love line dancing, it's a ton of fun). If she doesn't own cowboy boots, I'd buy her some. ;)

As for why? Well, she's hot, funny, sophisticated, and has a mind of her own. She and I have lots in common, from our appreciation of art while totally lacking in skill, all the way to actually enjoying some of the err, not-so-fine things in life, and I bet I could show her the time of her life. She'd never go back to Sammy. ;)

[identity profile] pkwench.livejournal.com 2010-04-17 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I approve of this selection. Great eyes, attractive, and totally wore pigtail braids (which always goes for the win).

[identity profile] authoressnebula.livejournal.com 2010-04-17 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Why are you so fascinated with mythology and folklore? Especially the Greek stuff? (Aka, how'd you get into it?)

You so had to know I'd ask that. XD

~Nebula

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-17 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
When I was four years old, my mother's best friend gave me an illustrated book of Greek myths (she's Greek, so it made sense to her as a gift) called "Greek Gods and Heroes."

According to my mother, I then shut myself in my room with said book and spent the next week reading it carefully from cover to cover, learning all about Gaia and the Titans and Hercules and Arachne and Theseus and Ariadne.

I was fascinated. It appealed to my imagination like very little else had until then, and I pestered my parents mercilessly until they got me more books about Greek mythology. Then they branched out and got me *other* mythologies, which I read just as avidly.

So, yeah. It's been my thing for... twenty-seven years now. :)

[identity profile] cordelia-gray.livejournal.com 2010-04-17 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh! cool.

Do you think you will (or have you!) write fiction for RL publication, or will you stick with fanfic?

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-18 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I've written a fair bit of original fiction, but never with a real intention of publishing. I do it for fun, and so that the few people who do end up reading it get some pleasure out of the deal. :)

Right now I'm a very happy camper wallowing around in the world of fanfic, although I'm sure I'll start up my original stuff again sooner or later. It is my first love, after all.

[identity profile] cordelia-gray.livejournal.com 2010-04-18 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I for one am glad you're wallowing in fanfic! I am reading through your stories, and I've really liked what I've read so far. I love your Sam-voice in particular.

Have you posted any of your original fiction on LJ? I'd be interested in reading that too.

Of course, right now you should be working on your Big Bang! Good luck with it, I am looking forward to reading it :)

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-18 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Some of my original fiction is on my website called Midnight Crossroads.

The serials are up and up-to-date at my original fic LJ, [livejournal.com profile] secret_history. :)

Tell me about your relationship with h/c. When did it begin?

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-18 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, holy crap. It started a million years ago, when I was a tiny kid. Long before I even knew what h/c was (I only learned the term late last year).

I have no idea where it comes from. I was just always fascinated with the portions of stories that had to do with one character getting ill/injured, and another character having to come save them or take care of them. Fever-induced delirium was one of my very first fascinations in fiction, too, if we want to get specific.

I played out a lot of those fantasies with my toys, too. One toy would be sick/injured, and the other toys would take care of it, or I would take care of it.

I'm also very much like [livejournal.com profile] roque_clasique in my tastes, too. The injury/illness itself is not the payoff, but the aftermath. How the victim behaves while ill or dealing with the effects of the injury. Hence my obsession with delirium, I guess: all sorts of things come out when you're off your head with fever.

I dunno. It's a thing. ;)

[identity profile] zoemathemata.livejournal.com 2010-04-18 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
I saw someone else commented about your love of Greek Mythology. Do you have a favorite myth/story?

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-18 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a tough one, but if I had to pick, I'd say the myth of the Labyrinth and the minotaur is my favourite. It combines so many different elements that I adore, with the added bonus of dark, creepy and potential death at the hands of a huge monster! ;)
