Crap.

Between work and the cat being missing and sundry other random stressors, I haven't written a word of my BigBang since Sunday.

Due date is Saturday. I hope I have until midnight, because otherwise, it ain't happening. I'm still at least 10K short of my end.

I have errands to run right now, and then I want to watch SPN tonight, so I don't know how much I'll be able to write today.

*headdesk*

So close, and yet so far.

Rule is as long as it's May 1st where you are (and thus your email will be timestamped as such) it's not late. So you've totes got till midnight.

I've, uh, been kinda counting on that in my own head, because I seem to have decided that submitting my draft without the two planned POVs that I still need to write is cheating. . . .

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-29 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
God, I hope so.

All I want to do now is knock out that last chapter, and I'll work on fixing it afterward.

My current problem, apart from the fact that I'm still 10K short, is that I have neither a title nor a summary for the story, either.

Oy.

Bah, those can be knocked out at the last minute (says she who had people beta her summary not once but twice). Though if you have minutes when you can't for whatever reason focus on the story itself but have spare time? You can always see about knocking out the summary then.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-29 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
You totally made me paranoid about my summary after getting people to beta yours, btw.

Now I can't stop wondering if my summary won't end up sucking if no one else checks it.

God.

I should have time to do the summary, though. It's the fic itself that's the problem.

I know what you mean. And I don't have a lot of .doc file capabilities at home (I don't have Word, for instance), so I wanna get this thing in order by tomorrow night so I can email it from work. . . .

I didn't have people beta my summary the last two years running, and year one, my story got snapped up, like, right off. Of course, it also had key buzz words like "post-apocalyptic" and "steampunk" in it, but whatever.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-29 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Weirdly, I'm not too worried about my story getting picked or not. I just want it done already.

What happens if no artist wants your story? Do you get kicked out of BigBang dragging the Stone of Shame behind you?
bellatemple: (Default)

[personal profile] bellatemple 2010-04-30 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
I have no idea. As far as I know it's never happened. I think last year they ran out of stories for people to pick before they ran out of artists.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-30 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Really?

I thought the writers outnumbered the artists? Then again, I haven't checked the artist sign-up post in a while...
bellatemple: (Default)

[personal profile] bellatemple 2010-04-30 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
They had each writer pick two, last year? Or something to that effect.

ETA Er, artist, rather. Two stories. I dunno how it all worked.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-30 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Huh.

All righty. Well, I pity the poor soul who's going to have to slog through my 100-odd pages of fic. Do they get to read the first draft? 'Cause that would be massive cause for anxiety on my part. Egads.
bellatemple: (Default)

[personal profile] bellatemple 2010-04-30 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
That's totally between you and the artist. I usually offered up a draft to mine.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-30 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Oy, vey.

What on EARTH did I sign up for?

...

Of course, this'll all be moot if I manage not to finish this thing in time.

God. Next year? Case fic. Salt 'n' burn. End of story.

[personal profile] bellatemple 2010-04-30 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Hahahaha. So very easier said than done. ;D

But then, I'm generally a short form writer. This sucker is shaping up to be the longest SPN fic I've ever written -- and I keep convincing myself it's awful.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-30 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
*clings to you forever*

ME TOO!

I write short stories. 3,000 to 10,000 words max. There are exactly two exceptions to this rule in my writing, and one was a novel about zombies. Zombies. They write themselves. ;)

I think part of the reason I'm resisting this last chapter is that I've convinced myself that my whole story is crap. *cries*
bellatemple: (Default)

[personal profile] bellatemple 2010-04-30 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, I totally know how you feel. And I'm convinced that since I have yet to work out how one detail of my fic works, the whole thing is broken and completely unsalvageable.

And of course, I've left the two hardest POVs for me (Ruby and John) to the last minute.

*cliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiings*

If you don't make the deadline, I'll totes do art for your fic for you, anyway.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-30 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Aww, babe, that's SO SWEET!

I wish I could offer you the same, but the best I can manage is poorly-drawn stick figures. I SUCK at art. :)

We'll be fine. You'll see. We'll stick together, bang out the remaining bits of fic, and it will be awesome. Yes.

*cliiiiiiiiiiiings*

the best I can manage is poorly-drawn stick figures.

Dude, you've seen Dimensions and Verticals, right? Poorly-drawn stick figures ROCK.

*cliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiings back*

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-30 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
*dies laughing*

OH MY GOD. How did I ever miss that? That's BRILLIANT.

But yeah. My poorly-drawn stick figures cannot come close to approximating what you managed there. :)
bellatemple: (Default)

[personal profile] bellatemple 2010-04-30 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
That is by far the most commented on fic I have. And yet, people say they've missed it. . . .

Someday, I'll figure out how to sequel it. JUST BECAUSE I CAN.

[identity profile] cordelia-gray.livejournal.com 2010-04-29 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no! I hope you find your kitty!

And please keep at it, we want to read!

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-29 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Kitty turned up today, luckily, after being gone for ten days. Furry little bastard doesn't even look repentant. :P

I'm not giving up until one minute before deadline, promise.

[identity profile] debbiel66.livejournal.com 2010-04-29 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
So sorry your kitty is still missing! :(

You definitely can get 10,000 words written by midnight. I wrote the first 10,000 words of my BB in a few days, and I'm an absurdly slow writer.

(although I also had two people beta read my summary because I'm horrible at summaries!)

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-29 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Kitty turned up today, so all is well on that front. :)

I *think* I can get it done, if I can get into a "groove" of sorts. I write pretty quickly, so as soon as I've sorted it out in my head, it ought to take ten to twelve hours of consecutive writing. I think.

*wibbles*

[identity profile] primrose-1.livejournal.com 2010-04-29 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't give up!!! Everyone else I know who was doing this has given up, and I'd love to be able to cheer your fabulous success!

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-04-29 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not giving up until thirty seconds before deadline, no worries there.

How many people do you know who've given up? That sounds awfully worrisome...

[identity profile] annj-g80.livejournal.com 2010-04-30 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Uaaah, I hear you. I'm stuck at the big fight in the end and still need to write some scenes in between and an epilogue.

I'm one click away from giving up and making it another common story without the pressure of the deadline. But I wanted it to be bigbang *wails in frustration*

We should cheer each other *cheers for you*
