This is not good for my self-esteem...

So the artist who claimed my fic accidentally claimed two, and now I'm back warming the bench.

I am trying very hard not to take this as a sign that I'm not meant for this at all.

*cries*

It would help, of course, if I wasn't feeling sick and whiny today already. :P

So, uh, hypothetically... what happens if my fic never gets claimed? Do I get kicked out of BigBang in disgrace, or what? The FAQ doesn't cover that...

[identity profile] debbiel66.livejournal.com 2010-05-05 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh gosh, now you sound like me! And trust me, you don't want to sound like me. :)

No worries... it will all be okay. I even think I figured out what summary was yours by your writerly "voice" and if I was an artist, I'd want it like crazy!

Your fic will be claimed! If all the artists have a story and there's still stories left, there's a second round where the artists can pick a second one. And you already know someone is interested!

[identity profile] melanth0.livejournal.com 2010-05-05 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
don't worry! even if it doesn't get picked today, there'll still be the second round of claiming...you'll get picked, I'm sure.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-05-05 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL

I actually think that for anyone who's read my work enough, my summary is pretty obvious because I couldn't help myself and put in a neurotic authorial disclaimer.

It's an illness, I swear to God. :P

This challenge is turning me into an even bigger basket case than I normally am. Dear God.

[identity profile] debbiel66.livejournal.com 2010-05-05 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, it was the neurotic authorial disclaimer that gave you away, lol! :)

It will be fine. I'm just so excited you wrote a story - there's so little gen, relative to everything else, and you are such a good writer.

Any chance that Sam's the one suffering from that malaria???

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-05-05 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
No, it's Dean this time. I think I've beat up enough on Sam for the moment, it's Dean's turn.

And yeah. Neurotic disclaimers give me away each time. ;)

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-05-05 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
PINK FLAMINGO!

...

*cough*

Sorry.

Is that the X-Files? Looks like the ep with the garbage monster...

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-05-05 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
God, I hope so.

I realize it's silly to be this neurotic about it, but then, that's why they're called neuroses. :P

Now my brain is stuck in an endless loop of "what happens if no one wants my story?"

It is and it is! From the only X-Files season I own, because it's FULL OF CRACK.

*more icon love*

I think I'll go to Berlin. They understand me there...

I don't know why that ep stayed with me this long: it wasn't even all that good, as I recall.

Because it's the original "something's crazy in the heart of suburbia" crack episode?

My favorite is still the one where Mulder ends up on the cruise ship in the thirties because of the Bermuda Triangle.

[identity profile] sweetsyren.livejournal.com 2010-05-05 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh sweetie! Someone will pick you! The Americans aren't out of work yet and the europeans are all just getting in from work! Am sure someone will come along!

*hugs and offers cookies*

[identity profile] debbiel66.livejournal.com 2010-05-05 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
You two are making me miss the X-Files. Maybe I'll revisit the series this summer. I loved the suburbia ep... I have no idea why.

[identity profile] surevesta.livejournal.com 2010-05-05 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't been claimed yet either *hugs* It'll happen! Plus there are second claims later I think.

It's all streaming on Netflix! I finally watched the Pilot for the first time ever the other night.

It was teeeeeeeeeeeeerrible.

[identity profile] debbiel66.livejournal.com 2010-05-05 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I have to figure out how to watch Netflix streaming. My kids all know how, so I'm sure they'll help. I've been wanting to watch X-Files again because it's been years and because I loved it so back in the day but really didn't want to buy DVDs.

I don't remember the Pilot at all, other than the fact that Scully was so wide-eyed and young.

She was a tiny thing! Mostly, though, it's just that they hadn't gotten into the groove of how the writing and acting worked together, yet.

I always watch streaming on my computer, so I can't help you if you want to do it through your Wii or a TV box set or something. But on the computer it's pretty easy, you just log into your account, click the watch instantly tab, find what you want to watch, hit the blue "play" button, and then follow any instructions (there may or may not be a plug in to download, I don't remember).

*HUGS*

I'm trying not to make myself sick. LOL

That is what I was hoping for... I love watching TV on my laptop and didn't realize it was so easy.

I have a feeling that SPN is going to be a torturous hiatus, but between BBs and this, I might yet survive. :)

Someone will pick you I'm sure. And hey, they obviously liked your story, even if they accidentally picked two by mistake. You certainly have a better chance then me getting picked first round, Gen is *tons* more popular then Het

I've been mainlining Bones on Netflix, myself. (For some reason, I never got around to watching it until now. DB irritated me too much as Angel, I guess.) Makes for a much smoother summer hiatus ride, let me tell you!

[identity profile] debbiel66.livejournal.com 2010-05-05 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I've wanted to watch Bones after reading a J2 story based on it. Question for you - is the show CSI-like? I'm not good with true-crime stories. Ironically, I can handle star-crossed lovers eating each other on Supernatural just fine, but am not good with the real-life evil that people inflict on each other.
bellatemple: (Default)

[personal profile] bellatemple 2010-05-05 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Having never watched CSI, I can't really answer that question. It is based on an actual forensic anthropologist, I think? But in general, the characters seem to run the show a lot more than the cases do. Like, I only sort of half pay attention to the cases they're out to solve and instead enjoy Booth and Brennan arguing with each other over who gets to drive the 60s Mustang convertible. And Brennan's boss is LOVE. And I'm from DC, so I spend a lot of time going "Dude, no way is that Dulles, and who puts an airport that close to the HOUSES OF CONGRESS? Are you insane?" (okay, so that was in the first, like, three seconds of the first ep).

But, well, I'm not a big procedural show person? (I barely make it through episodes of Castle, I can't watch CSI or NCIS unless my friend is guest starring, and then only to go "GET BETTER JOBS!" at him, and though my sister triiiiiiied so hard, I never got into Homicide or Law and Order.) But I'm definitely enjoying this one. I'd relate it more to Criminal Minds, the whole "the cases are more of a backdrop for character development" thing, rather than the other way around.

[identity profile] debbiel66.livejournal.com 2010-05-05 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, that's an awesome rec then. I watched CSI once and was a little traumatized, but I keep hearing Bones mentioned, so I'll definitely give it a try. I watch TV for the characterization - I tend to drift bewilderedly through complicated plots anyway. Thanks SO much! Am excited now.

[identity profile] roque-clasique.livejournal.com 2010-05-05 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
That is horribly, awfully distressing, but DON'T WORRY, your fic will be claimed. And if by chance it DOESN'T (because the truth is there are less artists than writers), then I for one would be thrilled to claim it in the second round. (some artists end up doing two fics in case of this eventuality, and they have pinch-hitter artists, too. no fic is left without art)

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-05-05 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] thehighwaywoman just reassured me that, just like in gym class when the teacher forced the team captains to pick everyone for a team, those of us whose stories don't get claimed will get an artist anyway. :)

I think having to leave BigBang with my tail between my legs would have been horrifically soul-crushing. :P

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-05-05 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm hoping to be picked up in the second round.

I am being a giant neurotic baby about this, I know it. :)

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-05-05 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
*takes cookies and clings*

Neuroses R Us, it seems. Maybe next year I'll give it a miss, seeing as how I'm having a nervous breakdown now. ;)

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-05-05 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
*hugs back*

I'm already sick, so I guess I'm ahead of the game.

On the plus side, I'm quite sure it's not related to BB, since I was feeling crappy before I remembered it was claiming day. :)

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-05-05 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
*wibbles*

I know. The paranoid part of my brain is saying that because the two other people who expressed interest moved on after she accidentally claimed my fic, now no one else will ever want it forever and ever.

*headdesk*

It's okay. I understand that I am being unreasonable about this. :)

[identity profile] sweetsyren.livejournal.com 2010-05-05 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)

I am trying very hard not to take this as a sign that I'm not meant for this at all.

I suspect it's more likely to be a sign that the artist got over-enthused and a bit confused.

Gotta say, after all your authorial wibbling over this story I am desperate to read it! Seriously can't wait.

[identity profile] tifaching.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
"So, uh, hypothetically... what happens if my fic never gets claimed? Do I get kicked out of BigBang in disgrace, or what? The FAQ doesn't cover that..." Yup. Kicked out. In disgrace. *laughs really out loud* ONLY IF THEY DON'T READ IT!!! I have utter faith in your story to get a kick ass artist to do the artwork. Can't wait to read it. And LOL- you put one of your amazing neurotic authorial disclaimers in your summary? If I could draw, I'd pick your story just for that!

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
It's a teeny-tiny disclaimer, really! *hangs head in shame* I couldn't help myself.

But yeah, apparently people who know my writing style spotted it a mile away. :P

No one's claimed my fic after the three from this morning. I am so paranoid now. :(

[identity profile] debbiel66.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
But you had three pick it right away! Wait until the second round opens up - it will be snatched up.

I LOVE your idea for your story, btw. Cannot wait to read it.

[identity profile] greeneyes-fan.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Aw. I'd pick yours. But my art is terrible. You deserve someone with talent, or, or, something.

[identity profile] animotus.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
Bb,it's ok....your story will be claimed! So many summaries and so many people....it's very hard to figure out how to make it work!I mean,I claimed mine but I had to read hundreds of comments to see if it was already claimed and in the meantime other people commented and...and....FEAKS OUT!!!It's a circus!;D
Don't worry,I can claim two stories you know?!;D
