My fic refuses to write itself

So while I'm wrestling with the latest chapter of RiD, can anyone tell me what this whole "Remix" business is that I keep hearing about?

I feel all confused and out of the loop. :)

It's a challenge where you sign up stating what fandoms you write in (there's a minimum number of fics you can have) and then you get matched with someone who has fics in that fandom. You choose a fic and then do crazy things with it -- write from another POV, explore a small moment that isn't fleshed out, hell, tell it in rhyme if you wanted, I guess. It's an enormous amount of fun.

(And during the Diana Gabaldon wank, her fans were saying, "I bet YOU wouldn't like someone touching your precious stories!" and a lot of fic writers responded, "We sign up for it at remix!"

Fun but very challenging.

This year it will be on Archiveofourown.org. The stories go up in a couple of weeks, I think, without author names, and then author names appear in a week after that.

Jumping in, there's a lot of information at remixers_lounge and you can see last year's stuff at remixredux09. Now, that's the main Remix Redux which is multifandom, but there's also spn_remix, which is SPN-specific, kamikazeremix which is multifandom and intense in that you chose the story of yours that will be remixed, meaning you're assigned a specific story TO remix. There are a lot of other remixes in other fandoms, too, I think. I've done a bunch of them, and it's generally a lot of fun. Just turned in my story for remixredux today!

Something what I'm thinking I need to go back to square one on, since what I've got so far is trying to turn into an epic that I flatly do not have time to write before the story's due. Trouble is I have only the one idea to remix the fic I'm attempting to remix, and the fic I'm attempting to remix is the only one I've got any ideas for.
