A post that's not about Supernatural!

Why, oh why, am I still watching 24?

WHY?

The show hasn't been good since Season 3. In fact, I found Seasons 5 so very horrifically violent that I put off watching Seasons 6 and 7 for a very long time.

I feel like a battered wife*. "Oh, baby, I know you don't mean to hurt me. Maybe this time it'll be different!"

Oy.

The show has been a parody of itself for a long time. Here I was telling myself this year that at least Jack Bauer hadn't ripped out a man's jugular with his teeth (I only wish I was kidding about that), but this time around he actually eviscerated someone after torturing them.

Umm. No.

I really hope this is the last season. It's a train wreck, and yet I can't look away. Somebody put us both out of our misery, please!

*I am being flippant here, but rest assured that I take spousal abuse very seriously. I work for the police, and in no way do I think that domestic violence in any way, shape or form should be condoned.

I don't watch it, but it's definitely done next week. There may be a movie, though.

Okay, I can live with that. Movies I can ignore more safely than the show.

Oy vey.

Yeah, this is the last season. There's supposed to be a movie, though.

I've always kind of just loved and gone with whatever 24 threw at me, despite the ridiculousness of the past however many seasons, but I've found the last few episodes incredibly upsetting. I don't even know how they'll do a movie. Won't Jack be in, like, prison for being a psycho killer?

Oh, I forgot. No prison can hold Jack Bauer!!!

Whatever, I will still watch the movie, haha.

Jack has lost his mind. That's the only explanation I can come up with. I don't even feel any sympathy for him anymore, and I did at the beginning of the season.

I keep hoping that at the end of the day he'll commit suicide by cop, just to go down fighting, but I guess with a movie in the works it's not meant to be. :(

Yeah, I abandoned ship after S3, I think. There were no characters left that I gave a damn about, including Jack Bauer unfortunately.

You missed nothing except a really awful train wreck.

We just got the dvd's for season 2. I'm WAY behind. We may stay that way, we'll see. :)

Tell me about it. I was once a hard core 24 fan (as you have probably gathered from my older postings *LOL*). The last 3 seasons have been abyssmal. I can actually go back and pinpoint the exact moment when the entire show derailed. It was that obvious. I'm basically only watching now, because there remains a small part of my brain that wants to know out how it will all end. But truthfully, this show, which was once cutting edge and innovative television, has simply become ridiculous and over the top. For a while it was bad to the point of being amusing, but right now I think it's even moved past the stage of self-parody.

Don't worry. This is the last season. We only have to endure 2 more hours. Sadly, however, there appears to be a movie in the works. :P

You can pinpoint the exact moment it derailed? Cool. Which one is it? I didn't watch closely enough to do that.

Like you, I'm watching to see how it ends. I'm actually really sad that Jack Bauer became a murdering psychopath. I really liked him in the first seasons.

Actually, the show has jumped the shark a couple of times, but it more or less initially derailed in season 5, when in the course of 4 or 5 episodes, the writers decided to kill off 3/4s of the main cast. Tony Almeida, a character who was actually as popular if not more popular than Bauer himself among fans, was initally part of the mass cull. Due in part to fan backlash, the producers tried to take that back when they resurrected Tony in season 7, which for a while seemed to have potential, until they turned Tony in a murdering, revenge driven psychopath, not much unlike Jack is now, come to think of it. But back to derailing. Yes, in shows like 24 and Lost, some main characters will have to be sacrificed. But to kill everyone at once is ridiculous and as a result, the writers put themselves into a hole they are still trying to climb out of.

As for Jack becoming a psychopath, part of me thinks/hopes that it wasn't him who murdered those Russians. But that might be hoping for too much at this point.

Oh, but the "Iron Man" suit last night? I would call that another point where the show jumped the shark.

Wait, it's not really jumping the shark if you never come back down, right? I don't think that applies to 24, unfortunately. :)

I think the show has jumped a SCHOOL of sharks by now. ;)

Bringing back Tony was ridiculous in the extreme. I mean, we saw him die! He even got the "sad woman" music for his death scene! ;)

Oh, God, the "Iron Man" suit. WTF ever, 24?
