Day 03 - Your favourite season





Oh, Season 2. When the boys were brothers-at-all-costs, Sam's visions were getting out of hand, and there was Andy and Ellen and Jo and Ash! It has the majority of my favourite episodes, had a strong overarching plot, and the show never pulled its punches, right to the end.

I was thrilled when the YED died. So often a show will hang onto a bad guy until they're just not scary anymore, a la Borg in Star Trek or the Goa'uld in Stargate SG-1. This time the bad guy went out beautifully, all while the viewers were left with the promise of much, much worse to come.

So far there hasn't been a season I haven't liked, but I have a real soft spot for Season 2.

I agree with you for season I most like to watch, but I don't get the urge to write s2. Maybe because canon there isn't incomplete-feeling or crying out for fixing. Or maybe because I'm kind of in love with all-the-way-grown-up Sam. s2 Sam was lovable, but he had that tendency to throw himself prone on Dean or despair about destiny, while the Sam of s1 and the later seasons was more proactive, even if he was proactive in disastrously wrong ways.

True. I don't write much Season 2 Sam either. Most of my fic is either Season 1 or Season 5. And you're right: Sam did reach epic new levels of limp in Season 2, but he also took charge a fair bit with his visions (he worked really hard to convince Dean to look into those leads at the start), and in episodes like "Hunted," even if it always ended up badly. ;)
