Time to rename my ff.net tag

Holy crap.

Yet another snide suggestion of plagiarism. On the plus side, they keep suggesting I'm plagiarizing talented authors (in this case [livejournal.com profile] kroki_refur), so I guess they think the writing is good?

*shakes head*

It's a crack!fic, people! It's not meant to make sense, it was written off-the-cuff, and just because an author and I have ONE plot element in common does NOT make my work plagiarized!

GAH.

I am renaming my "fanfiction.net" tag to "pit of voles" now, just out of spite.

How very....random. It's not even the fun sort of crazy review. It's just bizarre.

Seriously. It's the kind of comment where you want to say, "no, really, I know it's considered polite to always comment, but I think you could have skipped it this time."


On the plus side, your mentioning of KrokI Refur lead me to clicking over to her journal to see what she had been up to, and lo and behold, one of the things she's been up to is writing a Jake 2.0 fic. I'd kind of forgotten about it and all its cheesy-dorky glory, but man, how I loved it once upon a time. So there's a silver lining in this. At least for me ;)

I think pit of voles describes it well.

I'm amazed that you get such wacky reviews. It must be because you have so many readers. (I knew there had to be some benefit to being unpopular! *g*) Like fandom itself, the more fans a show attracts, the more weirdos surface.

I'm pretty sure I've read every SPN fic [livejournal.com profile] kroki_refur ever posted, and I never saw anything close to plagiarism in your fic!

It was because I had the boys destroy the witch's altar in that cracky mpreg thing I wrote, and had that be sort of the reason the curse couldn't be reversed. She used the same plot device in "When You Put Your Arms Around Me."

Totally plagiarism, see? *eyeroll*

That's what I thought, so I went looking for story titles and found nothing...

Anyway, I'm not sure if that review is worth getting upset about. Maybe it's just phrased badly? Or maybe I'm just naive.

And I just considering I had one of those "Hey this reminds me of" moments with "Nihil Inherit" and mentioned it in my review I really hope that didn't upset you. Because I'm well aware that similar story elements are bound to be used by different authors independently. After all there's nothing new under the sun...

That whole comment over there read like entirely backhanded compliments the whole way through. Maybe I just need more sleep. ;)

And I agree--I know both your work and Refur's and you haven't plagiarize her! The thing is that when you write in a fandom, there is going to be common elements.

So . . . am I reading the wrong reviews, here? Because I see one on the mpreg fic that mentions Kroki's fic . . . but it's just a "it kind of reminded me of hers here", not a "OMG YOU TOTALLY STOLE THAT FROM KROKI". It doesn't read to me like any sort of suggestion or accusation of plagiarism.

Oh, it's definitely tonally awkward (a little OTT, especially) and the comparison with Kroki's story is definitely not what I would call totally favorable. But I don't get "plagiarism!" from it at all.

It's honestly not that bad of a review, I think. There are people over on ff.net who register an account just so they can leave nasty reviews that are nearly impossible to remove. This person seemed to like your story, at least, and if they're going to be reminded of any authors at least its a good one.
