Gratuitous Icon Post (GIP)!

The lovely and talented [livejournal.com profile] roguemouse has made icons. I feel all official now.

That means I really have to finish "Take Me Home," because it's eating my brain and I need the room to think about BigBang before the deadline. Luckily, it seems that once a fic starts eating at my brain it's not that hard for me to crank out the wordcount.

I am torn, though. There are so many different potential plots and prompts rattling around in my head, I don't know which one to pick.

([livejournal.com profile] hoodietime, don't worry: I haven't forgotten about the challenge in your community, it's percolating, and I don't think it'll be a problem to get it in by deadline)

It occurs to me that for someone who just started writing fanfic in November that I have a LOT of commitments on my plate. Umm, oops? I just love this fandom so much: you guys make me WANT to write, which hasn't happened in such a long time. I'm just riding the wave, here. :)

Decisions, decisions. I have a thought toward writing an AU starting at the end of Season 2, see what happens if there's never any question of Dean's going to hell, make it all about the mistakes that Sam and Dean make entirely as human beings. Maybe.

*wrings hands*

Oh, totally! That's great, may I keep that line?

Oh, my BigBang idea is not sooper seekrit, no worries there. It's just... lacking in plot right now. It's an idea niggling at the back of my mind: all the events of Seasons 3 to 5 happen essentially because of one moment, the one when Sam turns his back on Jake.

If Sam had survived that encounter and been the "last man standing," then the YED's plan would have had to change, wouldn't it? Because no way in hell is Season 2 Sam going to just acquiesce to whatever old Yellow Eyes has to say the way Jake does: he's got Bobby and Dean to back him up.

So I want to see if I can write an AU in which Sam remembers the "down doesn't mean out" rule that his father taught him —maybe he takes out Jake as he's trying to kill him (rather than when he's defenseless on the ground, because, again, no way is Season 2 Sam doing that either), and lives to tell the tale.

That means YED walks away, the Gate to Hell stays closed, Dean doesn't make his deal.

Nonetheless, there are prophecies involved, an End Game that YED has had in mind for thirty-odd years. Presumably, YED has a contingency plan.

So I want to figure out just how things would STILL happen to bring about the apocalypse, but with more of a focus on the boys and less focus on angels and demons.

It's a thought, and I don't know where it will take me. Heck, for all I know, the idea will fall flat and never go anywhere.

(Sorry, that got long-winded)

I like it!

You know, I luvs me some angels [hello Castiel!] but sometimes it's hard to write case fic when you KNOW it's all apocalypse all the time.

And I'm a huge fan, but I don't know if I want a season 6. How do you top the apocalypse? I say this now of course and the writers could have tons of stuff up their sleeves and won't I have egg on my face then.

But I do long for the 'simpler' times sometimes. you know?

So do I. I miss the times when it was just Sam 'n' Dean.

I do like Castiel in the context of the current plot, but part of me keeps wanting to drag him away (STOP TAKING SAMMY'S PLACE IN DEAN'S LIFE!) and make him go find God already. ;)

I know what you mean about trying to top the apocalypse. Personally, I'm hoping for them to bring it back down to a much more intimate level: apocalypse averted, but one of the boys comes out of it really broken, and the season focuses on fixing that (much like Season 3 focused on getting rid of Dean's deal, even if it failed), and helps them rebuild the relationship that got all mangled in Season 4.

But that's just me. ;)

Yes!
I mean, you've read my fic, you know I love Castiel, but Cas cannot take Sam's place in Dean's life.

if it comes down to a choice between Sam and Cas, (in my opinion) Dean will ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS choose Sam. and that's just the way it is. It's the way I believe Dean is built. and they are FAMILY.

and while I am an unabashed Dean/Cas shipper [and that surprised the frak out of me!] I never want Sammy to go away!

i would love to see it come back down to the brothers. They got so broken. oh boys.....

I'm not really a Cas/Dean shipper myself, although I will happily read that sort of stuff if it's well-written and the author can sell me on it (obviously, since I read your stuff).

I love Cas for Cas, but he's so fundamentally Other, not human, that I can't see him and Dean in my head. In fact, only really started to like him after 5.04, in which I saw what he'd be like if he became human. I enjoyed watching him before, but didn't really like him, if that makes any sense.

Anyway.

All I'm saying, is Kripke had better FIX what he BROKE or so help me I'll... uh... shake my fist impotently at the TV. :P
