Forgive me while I wig out (again) about my Big Bang

This story is fighting me every step of the way. Remind me never to write RPS ever again. God.

Also, I had a horrible, horrible doubt assail me yesterday. Some of you know by now that I'm doing a J2 retelling of Avatar (the blue alien one, not the other one), but it occurred to me FAR too late that unlike most RPS authors I kept most of the original names from the movie rather than replace them with CW casting.

I've never really written RPS AU before. Am I committing some sort of major sin, here? Anyone? Just how much do I have to fix this, or is it okay if I didn't use anyone else from the CW?

Whatever you like and whatever works for your story should be the way to go. I think it's quite all right not to have other CW cast members in the story. Jared and Jensen are always enough for me (well, mostly--LOL!)!

I'm really curious about the story now. I can't wait to see how it all works together. I must admit, I haven't seen the movie, but I think I know enough about it to enjoy your story.

Is your story that close to the movie that you can keep the character names the same? I mean, usually with RPS fusions, I only see the names changed to specific actors if the author has altered the character personalities to match something closer to what the actors are like. Granted, RPF isn't exactly my area of expertise, but if you story is that close to the original movie, where only the two leads are really any different as characters, I can't see a reason why it would matter.

Yeah, my story is pretty close to the movie, with added bits and some of the underlying backstory significantly changed. It's mainly the two leads that I've changed, the other characters are the same.

I don't think it matters, really, especially if you have kept characters other than Jared & Jensen close to the original rather than changing their characterizations to suit whichever CW person you'd put in their place. (and hey, you have time! You'll do great, good luck with the editing!)

I hope you're right. I kept all the other characters very close to how they were in the original movie, so hopefully no one will mind.

*whispers* Sometimes, I prefer it that way. I mean, don't get me wrong. I adore the rest of the CW cast. But sometimes...you just need a little Jared/Jensen focus, you know? And with you having it in Avatar, it'll be even better to try to not overlay the Navi (sp) features over Murray's squintyness. XP

Don't worry about it. It'll be fine. I think it'll be a good thing, all things considered.

I think, for me, the big clue when I'm reading fic that Something Will Be Different are the two letters "AU".

In other words, you've invented an Alternate Universe, which means it's yours to do with as you will. If you want to throw Buffy, Booth and Rory in there, go right ahead.

I really enjoy a lot of AU J2, especially sci-fi ones, especially, for some reason, ones where Jensen or both J's is/are an android with deep emotions.

Frankly I'm tired of the typical alphabet soup of a zillion names I only even know are CW actors b/c they show up in every freaking J2. Sure Tom is gorgeous, he and Mike are probably charming for all I know, but it's the J's I feel an attachment to. Chris, Aldis, and Jeff are fun to see in stories, but the J's actually know them.

Long way of saying: for my 2 cents, you're fine.

I forgot Jensen does know the Smallville cast. Still, the characters (whether actual or AU) I actually enjoy seeing are the J's, maybe their siblings or parents, Harley, Sadie, guys they're actually friends with such as Christian, JDM, maybe Misha. Just the J's are enough.

I'm with a lot of the other posters here. I am more likely to read a J2AU that doesn't have other CW characters than I am to read one that does.
