I am being wibbly and indecisive. I want to sign up for the [livejournal.com profile] spn_slackers_bb, but I don't know if I should try to finish my Sam/Dean Mini Bang, which I've already started and would only be about 15k at most, or if I should try to write my Dean/Cas Big Bang, which I haven't started but have an idea for and would be longer than that.

Apparently I can't be a grown-up about this. So I am turning to you for help.

Title: Pandora's Box
Summary: Written for [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang. RPS based on the movie Avatar. Marine Jensen Ackles thinks his life is over when he becomes paralyzed in the course of duty, but when his twin brother is killed in a robbery everything changes. Struggling to make sense of his loss, Jensen decides to take his brother's place in a mission on the distant moon of Pandora, where a private corporation has a large mining concern. New cutting-edge technology allows Jensen to form a psychic link with an avatar — an artificially-grown body composed of the DNA of both humans and the Na'vi, the aliens native to Pandora— and thus interact directly with the otherwise hostile, if beautiful planet.
In exchange for the spinal surgery that will allow him to regain the use of his legs, Jensen agrees to infiltrate the Na'vi. Once he's there, though, he becomes close with the tribe, particularly the chief's son, Jared, his guide and mentor. Under Jared's tutelage, a whole new world opens up for Jensen, along with the first blossom of love. But when tensions between the Navi and the military branch of the human operations run too high, Jensen is faced with having to make a choice between the world he comes from and the world where he has found love and where, for the first time in his life, he truly feels at home.
Link to Art: Art by folkin_up_again.
Characters: Jared/Jensen, OCs (brief but explicit Jensen/OFC)
Rating: NC-17
Wordcount: 96,645
Disclaimer: Obviously, I have no claim to any of these people. In the context of this story they are, for all intents and purposes, not real. I am merely borrowing their likenesses for purposes of entertainment only. No profit made, etc.
Warnings: Swearing, violence, explicit sex (slash & one het scene), bonded sex (the happy blue alien bond type), a few instances of homophobic comments, character death (not Jensen or Jared).
Neurotic Author's Note: Detailed notes will be in the last section of this Big Bang, but I owe an immense debt of gratitude to my beta, [livejournal.com profile] peppervl, who wrestled this beast into submission. Many thanks go out to [livejournal.com profile] wendy and [livejournal.com profile] thehighwaywoman for putting together this wonderful madness! And many thanks to everyone on my flist (and Twitter!) who put up with my months and months of whining about this story. You are all awesome. :)

Special Note for my Artist: The lovely [livejournal.com profile] folkin_up_again has made several pieces of art for this story! Clicky on the link below to take a look at everything she worked so hard to produce!

I FINISHED! I finished writing The Big Bang That Would Not Die™!

It clocks in at 96,857 words. Yup. That's about 17k more than I thought it would be.

No, really, I mean it!

ratherastory: (SPN Is Writing Fanfic)

Yes, I am doing this again. Just wrote 10k on the Big Bang That Would Not Die™ yesterday, and I'm so close to actually finishing this stupid thing I can taste it. It's getting finished today, come hell or high water.

This is really pretty shameful. My poor artist has had to make do with a shitty incomplete fic for far too long, and I haven't had a word of complaint, which makes her a saint. I am never, ever doing this again. Never writing a long RPS and definitely never screwing around like this with a Big Bang. If I don't have a draft I am entirely satisfied with the day before deadline, I'm dropping the fuck out.

For those of you who are curious the BBTWND now stands at a little over 91k.

And once that's done I still have ten thousand other projects that need to be de-neglected. Most of them due really soon. Shoot me.

ratherastory: (Writing is Hard!)
This story is fighting me every step of the way. Remind me never to write RPS ever again. God.

Also, I had a horrible, horrible doubt assail me yesterday. Some of you know by now that I'm doing a J2 retelling of Avatar (the blue alien one, not the other one), but it occurred to me FAR too late that unlike most RPS authors I kept most of the original names from the movie rather than replace them with CW casting.

I've never really written RPS AU before. Am I committing some sort of major sin, here? Anyone? Just how much do I have to fix this, or is it okay if I didn't use anyone else from the CW?

I'm a little surprised at how fast the claims started (how do people even have time to read all the summaries that fast?), but it's exciting.

And, well, if no one ends up claiming mine, then at least I won't be under all that pressure to fix the unholy mess that is my rough draft. *eyes silver lining determinedly*

A few things:

1- Just got my BB confirmation email. Yay!

2- CANADIANS, GET YOUR BUTTS OUT THERE AND VOTE!

3- It's Sam's birthday! Now that Big Bang panic is over, everyone head on over to the comment-fic meme at [livejournal.com profile] ohsam and write comment-fic in order to detox! You know you want to. :D

Okay, sent in my draft. It's currently at a little over 60k, and is complete, if in very bare-bones format. Doubtless when I go back in and fix it, the wordcount will go up. You know, when I add in things like adjectives and feelings. :P

Guh.

Going to bed.

The rest of this week is going to be devoted to other long-neglected fic commitments, and then I'm going RIGHT BACK to writing this monster.

Okay, so my draft is going to end up WAY shorter than my final version, but whatever. I have three days to finish. Here goes nothing:

53818 / 80000 words. 67% done!

Okay. Progress is being made. Not quite as fast as I'd like, but I'm getting to the part where, hopefully, the writing should go a little faster in terms of the plot. Also, yesterday was a wash due to my being extraordinarily diseased with the Cold of Doom™, so I slept instead of writing like I should. Alas.

30742 / 80000 words. 38% done!

More writing tonight before bed, so with any luck I should hit at least 32k by then. *crosses fingers*
