I've been thinking about this topic a fair bit lately, for reasons. ¬_¬

A few people here and there sometimes offer fiction commissions, and it gets met with very mixed reactions. Some people are happy to jump on the bandwagon, and others wag judgmental fingers for it, whereas fan artists never seem to meet with the same kind of disapproval. It seems to be acceptable to produce visual arts for profit, even if the work is fan-based, but not written works.

So, I'm curious. What do people on my flist think? I've made the poll anonymous, so you don't have to worry about your answers being recorded for posterity.

If you don't mind your name appearing in the comments, I'd be curious to hear your thoughts about why it seems to be okay to pay for fanart but not fanfiction. Is there some legal aspect to this with which I'm not familiar? Or is it something else? A combination?

[Poll #1966603]

You will also note that I was sneaky and included a second question about original fiction. I don't know many people who do this, but I'm also curious about people's habits when it comes to original fiction. If fanfic authors link to their original works, are you less likely or more likely to seek out what they're producing? Are you in it for the fandom stuff only, or are you inclined to take a chance on original fiction? Inquiring minds want to know!

Okay, flist, I am posting this poll for reasons. I may or may not be contemplating Sheriff Stilinksi fic. Possibly. ¬_¬

It feels like everywhere I turn, all I'm seeing is angry SPN fans. People who hate the storyline. People who hate Amelia. People who hate Benny. People who hate Cas. People who hate the flashbacks/story structure.

People who hate Sam because he's clearly 100% in the wrong and want him to DIAF for being such a terrible brother to Dean.

People who hate Dean because he's clearly 100% in the wrong and want him to DIAF for being such a terrible brother to Sam.

So I figured I'd do a poll, for SCIENCE. What are your feelings, flist? Do you all really hate things as much as it feels like you do? Or are there some of you out there who are still enjoying yourselves?

Okay, has everyone seen this? From this post:

Rest assured, we are paying close attention to all of your feedback. Problems with actual functionality (inability to use the new form or aspects of it, slow load times, crashes, etc) have been reported and are being worked on. We're also aggregating all your feedback about the presentation and usability of the commenting form in the general sense, including items missing from the previous version, and the appropriate project teams are reviewing this feedback to help guide what further changes will be made. Thank you for your patience as we continue to work on the new commenting system.

Bold face was in the original text. I am keeping my fingers crossed, but am not holding out much hope.

So here's the thing. I am already posting all my stories on AO3. I am seriously considering making that my primary posting site, and only using LJ and DW as back-ups for people who are following me. So I'd post there, link back here with comments disabled, and leave it at that.

If I were to do that, would you guys still be interested in reading? Here, have a poll to make things easier:

I am sad to be at work, so I am cheering myself up by making a super-scientific poll!

This is a fandom LJ, but there are a few people on here that I know outside of fandom. Also, I watch a lot of TV but am not necessarily part of the fandoms of those shows, so I'm curious to know what we might have in common.

Thus, a poll:

First off, I updated the Fusion Master Post with a list of all the stories in chronological order as well as the order in which they were written, so now people can decide in which order they'd rather read them.

Onto the rest of the post!

Spurred by boredom, procrastination, and an ill-advised half-hour of lurking on the anon meme a day or so ago, I decided to re-vamp my Master List. It was getting overly long anyway, so it was due for an overhaul.

First off, I split it off into two posts. The first post is all SPN, all the time, and SPN RPF/S. The second post contains all my podfic and all the fic from my other fandoms, few as they are right now.

That being said, I'm not sure if I've got this down to a science yet. I still have my fic sorted primarily by length, and while it makes sense to me, I'm not sure it does for anyone else. Also, while my lists currently consist of the title, summary and posting date of the story, I wonder if many readers aren't scanning the list and wondering how the hell they can tell if a fic is gen or slash or het or whatever without clicking and reading the header of the story itself (although 90% of my SPN fic is gen, I just counted while I was working).

In short, who feels like helping me make a better, more user-friendly Master List? I have even made a handy poll for those of you who only want to click and not type. ;)

I am being wibbly and indecisive. I want to sign up for the [livejournal.com profile] spn_slackers_bb, but I don't know if I should try to finish my Sam/Dean Mini Bang, which I've already started and would only be about 15k at most, or if I should try to write my Dean/Cas Big Bang, which I haven't started but have an idea for and would be longer than that.

Apparently I can't be a grown-up about this. So I am turning to you for help.

This is something of a follow-up to a conversation in my post about the hypothetical Gen Big Bang, in which I discovered to my shock and dismay that not everyone agrees on what constitutes gen fic!

Thus I am conducting a poll for SCIENCE!

Please spread the word, I am really curious to hear opinions on the subject.

A whole bunch of Big Bangs sign-ups are coming up, and I am at a bit of a loss. I have several story ideas which could work for the [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang, but I'm floundering a bit for the rest.

The one which is causing me the most angst is the [livejournal.com profile] sncross_bigbang. I've written one crossover in the past, which was my Burn Notice crossover for [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen, so I know I can do it, but I'm still being all waffly about it, because I don't know which show to cross SPN with.

Oh, what the hell. Let's have some polls!

So I've been trying to catch up on comments to my fic, because I'm behind on everything fandom-related and feeling a bit guilt-ridden as a result. Anyway, that's moving along, so I thought I would indulge my curiosity and ask my ever-understanding flist for your opinions.

Do you guys care at all whether an author replies to your feedback? Do you feel annoyed/insulted/whatever if your comment goes unanswered, especially when you've taken the time to leave really detailed feedback?

To make it easier for y'all, I've made a poll. It's totally not because I like fiddling around with the LJ toys. No. Not at all... *shifty look*

What are your thoughts?

So someone on ff.net pinged me about this, and I am halfway tempted. Some of you may know that I'm currently training (or trying to train) to become an RCMP officer. My main problem is that my endurance running SUCKS. So this seems like a pretty good way to kill three or four birds with one stone.

fandom 5k

The idea is to sign up to run a 5km race by next June, and to raise money for it. Since it's ALSO a fandom thing, there would be a fanwork up for auction as well.

If I offered a 5K fic to go along with the run (I'd be raising money for breast cancer research, which has always been my charity of choice, or failing that for cancer research in general), would anyone be interested? Choice of prompt would go either to the top donor or else drawn at random from the top donors if there's a tie.

Okay, so a few people have suggested that I do something like the lovely and talented [livejournal.com profile] roque_clasique has in her master list of fic, which is to provide a few "starter" fics for new people who might feel a tad overwhelmed and not know where to begin.

Alas, I can't for the LIFE of me tell which of my stories (if any) would work for that.

This is where you come in. If you would be so kind as to fill out the poll below (and/or reply in the comments section, as you prefer) and give me suggestions? I will be forever grateful, and I might even be persuaded to write another instalment of the Fusion 'verse (no, I am not above bribery, as you can see). ;)

Halp?
