Title: You Can't Break Away--And You Never Want To
Summary: Firefly crossover/fusion-type thing. Dean accompanies his brother to visit Sam's old friend Inara, with whom he underwent his Companion training.
Characters: Dean, Sam, Inara, Mal, Kaylee.
Rating: PG-13
wordcount: 1,332
Warnings: Unrequited (so far) Dean/Sam. Implied Dean/Kaylee, if you tilt your head the right way.
Neurotic Author's Note #1: So [livejournal.com profile] kinkthattwinked gave me a prompt that sort of got away with me at my last post on the topic. Oops? I actually had this plot bunny living at the back of my head, and someday it will become a real story. For the moment, this is just me playing with the characters and seeing if I can do it. I've never written Firefly, after all.
Neurotic Author's Note #2: This is unbeta'd, just written in a hurry and tossed out there in order to see what happens.
Neurotic Author's Note #3: The title is actually a quote from the episode "Heart of Gold," from Firefly.

I still don't think this is a good idea, Sammy. )

A whole bunch of Big Bangs sign-ups are coming up, and I am at a bit of a loss. I have several story ideas which could work for the [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang, but I'm floundering a bit for the rest.

The one which is causing me the most angst is the [livejournal.com profile] sncross_bigbang. I've written one crossover in the past, which was my Burn Notice crossover for [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen, so I know I can do it, but I'm still being all waffly about it, because I don't know which show to cross SPN with.

Oh, what the hell. Let's have some polls!

Title : Smoke on the Water
Recipient : [livejournal.com profile] claudiapriscus for the [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen exchange! Originally posted here.
Rating: PG13
Warnings & Spoilers: Show-levels of violence, stuff exploding. No gore. Outsider POV. Knowledge of either canon is not strictly necessary in order to understand the story. Set between "Jus in Bello" and "Ghostfacers," for Supernatural, and between "Comrades" and "Scatter Point" for Burn Notice. Mild spoilers through Season 3 of Supernatural and Season 2 of Burn Notice.
Disclaimer: God, what would I give to own all of these people. Especially Sam Axe. Because, you know, how awesome would it be for Bruce Campbell to be mine? Alas, I am to be eternally deprived of that particular joy.
Author's Notes: I wasn't able to include as much Sam Axe in this story as I really wanted to, which makes me sad. I hope, dear prompter, that you're able to forgive me for that. Also, do you know how confusing it is to have two main characters named Sam? Very confusing! Title is taken from the Deep Purple song of the same name.
Thanks and such: My undying thanks go to my tireless beta reader, [livejournal.com profile] pkwench, who put up with me for weeks, waffling and angsting and generally being all emo about this story.
Prompt: Burn Notice Crossover. I don't care how or why, or who is in it, except Sam Axe. Give me lots of Bruce Campbell.
Summary: Casefic. Former spy Michael Westen has enough problems of his own ―not least of which is figuring out who burned him and why. Now, on top of that, his mother is accepting jobs on his behalf. He really doesn't have time for this, but when he starts investigating the unsolved deaths of young people in Miami, he finds himself crossing paths with an unlikely pair of brothers. In Michael's line of work, suspicion is par for the course, and he has to figure out whether Sam and Dean Winchester are friends or foes before even more lives are lost.

So after the last inspirational post, in which I'm all "Positive Energy YAY!" I'm going to complain bitterly that, while I am upholding my end of the bargain, I am having trouble with my [livejournal.com profile] castielfest fic.

Did I mention that I shouldn't write crossovers? They stress me out. :P

Anyway, I have the basic premise in my head. The problem is that I'm not nearly as familiar with the other show, although I do love it. I've never really written fic except for SPN, and I'm having a bit of trouble getting into the heads of the characters.

I've also got this quasi-OCD thing when I write, that I like my chapters and sections to be of equal length. I don't know where I got this little compulsion, and I don't even know if it's a valid concern. I mean, who cares apart from me if one chapter is 900 words and another is 2000? Do people notice this kind of thing? Is it just me?

So I have to work out my structure. I have, again, vague ideas for how it should work, but I haven't really figured out all the nuts and bolts. Also, people have already started posting to [livejournal.com profile] castielfest and it's seriously stressing me out that I haven't even remotely come close to finishing the story yet. I've barely scratched the surface of the set-up. I know that in theory I have until August 9th, but all these people are already posting and it's pushing my internal "you suck" button.

Meow.

Life is hard. ;)

HOLY CRAP YOU GUYS!

Why did no one tell me how awesome Delicious is? It has tags and a place for notes, and the Firefox add-on lets me have it ALL in a convenient sidebar and it's like an organizational orgasm!

*cough*

Uh.

I'm calm now.

I foresee spending a LOT of time on this website. WHEE!

In other news, because I've been trying to think long and hard about my BigBang fic, my brain has come up with at least two ideas for crossover fics. Because, as you know, BigBang doesn't include crossovers. My brain is perverse.

The first is Supernatural/Lie To Me: I want Cal Lightman and Dean Winchester facing off across a table in a glass room. The master liar versus the master lie detector. It would be EPIC. I have no idea what the plot would be, but I really want to write this.

The second is my first fanfic love, Dresden Files/Supernatural: Can you imagine a soul gaze between Harry Dresden and Dean? How Dean would react to Harry's car? (It's a Volkswagen Beetle, for those of you who don't know the series) What Harry would think of Sam?

I even have a sort-of plot burgeoning at the back of my head for this. God save me.

Oh, and of COURSE a short story from Missouri's POV inserted itself in there too.

GOD.

Dear Supernatural,

I love you, I really do. STOP MAKING ME THINK OF NEW FIC TO WRITE. I HAVE NO TIME.

Love,

Me

Speaking of which, can anyone out there tell me what sort of music Sam Winchester listens to? I didn't recognize the one song that played briefly in "Lazarus Rising," and all of the show is dominated by Dean's musical taste, not Sam's. The only thing I know is that, according to Dean, Sam listens to crappy emo music, which tells me nada.

I really ought to write that meta about how Show doesn't actually know anything about Sam Winchester the human being, and only ever shows us Sam The Convenient Plot Device™.

(Yes, I want to build a playlist. Yes, I'm very OCD, I know. My OCD is harmless, though, and doesn't interfere with my life in any way. It just makes me twitchy when things aren't a certain way.)
