First off, I updated the Fusion Master Post with a list of all the stories in chronological order as well as the order in which they were written, so now people can decide in which order they'd rather read them.

Onto the rest of the post!

Spurred by boredom, procrastination, and an ill-advised half-hour of lurking on the anon meme a day or so ago, I decided to re-vamp my Master List. It was getting overly long anyway, so it was due for an overhaul.

First off, I split it off into two posts. The first post is all SPN, all the time, and SPN RPF/S. The second post contains all my podfic and all the fic from my other fandoms, few as they are right now.

That being said, I'm not sure if I've got this down to a science yet. I still have my fic sorted primarily by length, and while it makes sense to me, I'm not sure it does for anyone else. Also, while my lists currently consist of the title, summary and posting date of the story, I wonder if many readers aren't scanning the list and wondering how the hell they can tell if a fic is gen or slash or het or whatever without clicking and reading the header of the story itself (although 90% of my SPN fic is gen, I just counted while I was working).

In short, who feels like helping me make a better, more user-friendly Master List? I have even made a handy poll for those of you who only want to click and not type. ;)

The anon meme appears to have died, or at least been deleted.

I am now idly curious as to why that is. Anyone know?

Made the mistake of peeking at my BB thread on the anon meme, and am sort of... I dunno. "Depressed" is too strong a word, because so many lovely NON-anons have come around and given great feedback, a lot of it specific.

The anon meme, OTOH, seems to have had two responses to it. The first was "OMG I had the basic concept therefore the fic cannot be good and I'm not even going to bother!" And the second one was "But she never resolved the mystery!" And apart from one person who enjoyed it, the overall response was "meh."

Damned with faint praise, in short.

The sane part of me is telling me I shouldn't go read that thread at all. The not-so-sane part can't look away, and I keep having to tell myself to sit on my hands because I keep wanting to actually engage in discussion. Like, how resolving the "central mystery or gimmick" as they put it was so very much not the point of the fic, for instance. (One commenter accused me of trying to set up a "cracky spin-off.")

So much for my poor one-off exploration of the relationship between Cas and Dean. ;)

I read a few other reviews out of curiosity, and it really feels as though the anon meme reviewers are determined not to enjoy anything they read. "Damned with faint praise" seems to be the default mode.

There's an expression in French for that, which is "Bouder son plaisir." I'm not sure exactly how to translate that, except as the willful denying of pleasure to oneself. That is, even if you liked something (and I'm not saying the anons liked my story, it's just a theory based on my perception of maybe a dozen or so BB threads), you purposefully seek out the flaws in order to hand in a final verdict of "meh."

And of course, the REALLY paranoid part of me is having conniptions about my fic actually being really terrible and all my friends being too polite to tell me. Which I KNOW is BS, don't worry! It's not rational, and I'm actually very proud of the story. But MEEP!

Okay. I'm going to make breakfast, and try not to obsess. Today's project is the [livejournal.com profile] spn_reversebang. Wish me luck!

:::ETA:::

I am kind of weirded out that this post has now made it into that thread. It's my LJ, folks! I can bitch about authorial intent if I want to! What you do with it subsequently is your own affair, but I get to voice my opinions any way I want to! :P

/end random pseudo-rant

Further ETA, behind a cut because it's 3am, I'm cranky and thus I'm being petty )

It is taking every single ounce of self-control I possess not to go and look, but apparently there's a side-swipe at me at the anon meme, on the topic of someone else's fic.

I don't know if that's good or bad or what. I mean, really? I am an obscure little gen writer in one small corner of fandom. I have no idea why I'd even be mentioned there, except maybe because I recc'd that fic a few times.

I am omitting names of authors & fics to protect the innocent & to avoid unnecessary wank. Please, dear readers, if you do end up commenting here, do the same.

I'm just kind of amused that these people think I'm commenting on the anon. meme in any capacity (that was the gist of the comment). As I have said in comments elsewhere: if you have an opinion strong enough to express, then stand up and OWN IT. I don't do anonymous. I sign my name (or my online handle, anyway) to whatever I write. Also? I don't generally have the time to scroll through that sort of meme. I stumbled across it once, accidentally (which is how I know where it is), and each entry is several pages of anonymous comments, which I don't have the time, inclination, or energy to scroll through.

That being said, I am a little sick of having my friends hurt by this stupid meme, though. In the past ten days, no fewer than five people on my flist have found themselves in that community's cross-hairs. It's petty and worthy only of high school, which, in my case, I left fifteen years ago. Been there, done that, don't need to revisit it, thank you very much.

In short, anyone who can't man up and own their words? Can kiss my ass.
