Hi everyone!

*waves*

I'm still alive. I hear LJ is getting turned over to Russia, and that means that there's a non-zero chance that my journal and everything contained therein could face deletion (because slash fiction) or whatever else.

So, anyway, I've had a back-up at Dreamwidth for a while, under the same name. If I disappear from LJ, you can always find me on DW, with the only thing missing being many of the lovely comments people have left for me over the years (alas).

Okay, that's it for my PSA. While I'm here, who-all is going to ConfabCon in May? I shall be there, and I want to make sure to see as many of you as humanly possible! Speak up if there's even the slightest chance that you'll be there!

Why, LJ?

I missed the "random posting" day. Sorry.

Can anyone tell me how to put my friends "feed" back to the way I had it before LJ decided that imposing their new style on me was actually what I really wanted? I have googled and searched the FAQs, to no avail, and I really loathe the new look. I liked it the way I had it before, thanks!

Also, I apologize for the lack of fic. )

I'm not abandoning ship, but the way LJ is going I'm tempted to start crossposting from DW and disabling comments here. Time will tell. Also, I'm getting flooded with spam comments (not just on this journal, but on old RP ones I forgot about, etc.) and LiveJournal keeps logging me out randomly (often in the middle of editing entries), which is making my user experience very, very frustrating. I let my paid account lapse a while back, and now I'm finding it less and less appealing to even give advertising revenue to LJ for the crappy service.

So, in light of everything that's transpired, I figured I would leave links here to all the other places you can find me and/or my fanfiction online:

Hey all!

I am slow about LJ things, but I realized that the "share" link on my entries allows people to reblog my posts like Tumblr, and modify the content therein. I am unthrilled with this, to say the least. I don't like the idea of someone being able to modify/twist/misrepresent what I'm saying. Not to mention that it makes it much easier for plagiarists to run amok. Not that people are lining up to plagiarize my stuff, but it's the principle of the thing.

So, is there any way of disabling that "feature?" Anyone? Bueller?

Latest PSA wherein LJ messes with something else:

Livejournal Scrapbook is going away. Your 10GB of Paid Member space is now 2GB. If you care, there is an explanation in Russian on the Russian news page. There's also a user-submitted translation.

+ You will no longer have access to your Scrapbook once this goes live.
+ Your images will redirect, but the URL will be different.
+ Unable to tell what will happen to any photos you have that put you over the 2GB limit.
+ Back up your Scrapbook just in case.
+ If you want your photos transferred over now instead of waiting, let them know here.

So a few people use only one icon in spite of all the icon space that comes even with a free account, and while I am an icon junkie, I've begun to wonder if they're not onto something. After all, they all have an icon that is recognizably them, and that's it. In my case, it would mean that I wouldn't spend those few extra seconds wondering which icon to pick (first world problems, I has them), especially since I'm letting my paid account lapse in light of LJ's latest fuckery antics.

The thing is, my default icon is this:

I do love it, but I don't know if that's the one I should keep to represent me, or if I should go hunt down some poor, unsuspecting icon maker and see if I can't cajole them into making one with my own name on it.

I don't know, am I the only one with strong feelings about icons? Flist? Anyone? Bueller?

(I thought about making a poll while I still could, but I honestly don't know what I'd put in a poll about icons)

Okay, has everyone seen this? From this post:

Rest assured, we are paying close attention to all of your feedback. Problems with actual functionality (inability to use the new form or aspects of it, slow load times, crashes, etc) have been reported and are being worked on. We're also aggregating all your feedback about the presentation and usability of the commenting form in the general sense, including items missing from the previous version, and the appropriate project teams are reviewing this feedback to help guide what further changes will be made. Thank you for your patience as we continue to work on the new commenting system.

Bold face was in the original text. I am keeping my fingers crossed, but am not holding out much hope.

So here's the thing. I am already posting all my stories on AO3. I am seriously considering making that my primary posting site, and only using LJ and DW as back-ups for people who are following me. So I'd post there, link back here with comments disabled, and leave it at that.

If I were to do that, would you guys still be interested in reading? Here, have a poll to make things easier:

[Poll #1804993]

For those who are interested, I am at AO3 under favicon ratherastory

I'm also on Dreamwidth at favicon ratherastory

So in spite of vociferous protests, LJ has gone and changed the comment box format. Among the "improvements":

- No more subject line
- No more drop-down box to select icons (instead there is a bandwidth-sucking thumbnail view)
- No more thread and parent links in posted comments
- No more ability to preview comments before posting

You know what? This sucks. How am I supposed to run [livejournal.com profile] ohsam, in which I always track comment threads by subject title? WTF, LJ? It wasn't broken!

Okay. Other moderators, have you given any thought to a workaround on this? At this point, I am close to letting my paid account & icons just lapse and to find some damn where else to post, but I've been with LJ for nearly ten years and I hate change.

Thoughts?

I should have done this sooner, but for the record I have switched off IP logging here except for anonymous commenters. I don't generally check IPs anyway except in cases of abuse, so you don't have to worry about that.

Also, LJ decided to automatically screen anonymous comments, which is ridiculous, so I disabled that too. All anons are welcome to comment here as long as you keep things respectful and non-inflammatory. After all, not everyone has an LJ, and sometimes I can understand not wanting to sign your name where just anyone on the internet can find you.

So, yeah. Go forth and be free! Or as free as you can manage within the confines of LJ. ;)

Argh! LJ has changed its stupid header thing at the top, and now I have this REALLY ANNOYING white dialogue bubble at the top of my friend's page giving me the option of picking one of my flist filters. I CAN'T GET RID OF IT. There's no 'x' out thing, and it's big and hides a chunk of text there.

How can I go back to what I had before? The whole thing is ugly and I want it back to what it was!

:::ETA:::

We also appear have comment notification delays once more. Woo.

Got my submission in for LAS just under the wire (since I have to leave in an hour). I wasn't especially inspired by the prompt, so I'm hoping that won't get me voted out of this round. Then again, even if my admittedly fragile writer's ego would take a blow, maybe it would be a blessing in disguise if I was voted out. I am clearly not mature enough to handle these "competitions" like a grown-up. :P

Anyway, I'm sure you've ALL heard/seen about LJ's new BFF policy with Facebook and Twitter. I would very much appreciate it if you'd all show me the courtesy of not reposting my content anywhere without my express permission. I'm sure you are all awesome and weren't planning on it, but this is a preemptive measure.

I don't have that many tags with "/" as a character, but I do hope LJ fixes that bug soon. It's a pain for the comms I'm in.
