Better than nothing?

My Delicious account is back from the dead, except it has amnesia. ALL my links have vanished.

I am so pissed off, I can't even. All of [livejournal.com profile] harrigan's hard work is gone.

I guess I'll get back to it eventually, figure out what the hell these "stacks" are. I like pancakes, but I don't see what the point of stacks are otherwise.

Delicious is also being a prissy bitch and informing me that I must not have "opted in" when I was supposed to. Hah. I did it for both my accounts, so they are full of it.

Any other bookmarking sites out there that people like? I am willing to switch over at this point, since I have to start from scratch.

What do you use it for? Just fandom stuffm? I've heard good things about diigo, but also know that you can use AO3 to bookmark fics that aren't on Ao3

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2011-09-30 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
This was specifically an account created for my own fiction, because apparently a lot of people hate my master list, so that made it easy and searchable by tag. My other delicious account is, as far as I can tell, safe and sound.

Diigo is probably the way to go, then. It doesn't do tag bundles, but it seems to do everything else quite nicely. There's an FAQ here if you're interested:

I've switched to Pinboard, which is fan-friendly and very delicious-like. There's a nominal fee that may stop some people, a one-time-only $10. But it's better than diigo, which doesn't let you have public links about sex.

[identity profile] katsheswims.livejournal.com 2011-09-30 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
When you say sex-do you mean fics that have sex in them (or are pretty much porn)? I have many of those, but I haven't noticed them on private or anything...

[identity profile] mollyamory.livejournal.com 2011-09-30 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Not the fic itself, but the link name for it or the tag, maybe even the description - they're "family friendly" in what they display.

Pinboard is supposed to be awesome and they are listening to fandom/fan friendly.

I will check it out, see what it looks like. Thanks!

I'm sorry about your account. I've been lucky but it seems a lot of people has lost their accounts. If they had informed us this could happen people could have exported their bookmarks at least...

Diigo seems the best option, but they limit the space for notes, so you can't put the whole summary of the fic unless it's only two lines. That's a problem for me.

People is saying good things about pinboard, but I haven't tried it yet. I just saw that pinboard doesn't show the number of people who has bookmarked the same link, which was nice to know (to know if a fic was popular and good).

I'm saddened by all this, because now the whole fandom is going to be scattered, and I liked looking at the recent fic bookmarks every day, it was like a long wonderful rec list.

#EDIT - Avos is saying in their blog (http://www.avos.com/) that they are talking with Yahoo "on a solution to retrieve your bookmarks" of those who didn't migrate. Maybe there is some hope still?

I saw that. I am unconvinced, as they are saying it's for the people who didn't accept the terms and conditions, which isn't the case for me.

I went with Pinboard when Delicious first announced they were closing/being sold out (whatever it was) and I've been very happy with it. It has that nifty bookmarklet in the toolbar up top like Delicious used to have. There is a few, but it was worth it. I was able to import from Delicious to Pinboard with no problem. Of course, I'm not sure if you even have that option anymore :-(

I'm really sorry this happened. [livejournal.com profile] harrigan really did put a lot of hard work into it. It was awesome!

[identity profile] maypoles.livejournal.com 2011-09-30 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
That's no good. ;(

I have some hope for the comm account; they say they're working on "revealing" old tag bundles, but if that's not the case I'm going to be genuinely sad. I spent A LOT of time starting that bb up. I can't seem to find a good alternative either. I can't do a fee, and diigio only allows 20 tags per bundle, which doesn't work for my purposes.

They're also saying they're working on recovering lost bookmarks, so I'll cross my fingers for you!

I am so sorry!

After seeing this, I tried logging into my delicious account and it doesn't exist. It is not recognizing my email address... :(

You could try this. It seems to have worked for a lot of people. It's a bit tricksy but everyone who tried it seems to have got their bookmarks exported...

Alas that my computer skills are SO lame that that entry reads like gibberish to me. :(

[identity profile] roshni06.livejournal.com 2011-10-02 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank You soo much! I was however, able to get my account back. I am definitely backing up my bookmarks now though!

I signed up for Pinboard back in December when the first wave of Delicious panic hit. I've really enjoyed it. There's a one-time fee, but I decided that it was worth it. It's about US $9.55 right now, I think.

One feature that I love is the ability to save "unread" bookmarks. If you just use if for cataloging your fic, that might not be of interest to you, but I love it because I can save a bunch of tabs to read when I'm on a break (rather than when I'm on the Reference Desk and supposed to be doing something productive).

So sorry to hear that you had one of the accounts they screwed up. I really don't know what AVOS thought they were doing.

Hey! I don't know if you are following the whole 'new delicious' slow re-building but they have published an official way to retrieve bookmarks from the old delicious for all those who didn't opt in or whose bookmarks are missing. They inform about it in the beta status blog:

http://status.delicious.com/

And the importing tool is here:

http://www.delicious.com/settings/import/bookmarks

Hope it works, your fic account was made of awesome!
