Can I keep ranting about 5.13? This is about the biblical references therein.

Okay, folks. You know the drill. SPOILERS BELOW!

Kripke & co. have either never EVER read the Bible, or else they're totally twisting it with no regard whatsoever for the actual text. Which, y'know, television. Still, it's been bothering me since last week, so I went back and actually read the relevant portions of the Bible again.

Okay, so Michael gives Dean a huge long speech about the bloodlines descended from Cain and Abel, right? And a big long thing about him being like Abel, the dutiful older son, blah blah blah.

*BZZT*

WRONG!

I've had a fascination with the story of Cain and Abel ever since I read "East of Eden," so this really bugged me.

1- The whole story of Cain and Abel is based on the fact that Cain was the eldest son. He was pissed because he felt entitled to the Lord's regard because he was the eldest, whereas God judged them on the merits of their sacrifice.

So that comparison kind of falls flat right there.

2- Cain and Abel LEFT NO DESCENDANTS.

Let's take a look at Genesis 4:25, shall we? Abel had no children before he died. Problem solved. As for Cain, he did have children, but they didn't last very long. Wait for it.

Adam's third son Seth went off and had children, and Adam and Eve kept going at it like bunnies, but Noah is descended directly from Seth, and ALL of Adam's other children and descendants perished in the flood.

So, uh, WHUT?

WHAT THE HELL, KRIPKE?

SPN must be an AU. No other explanation for how they play fast and loose with religious text. ;)

Give me an hour or so, I can whip up a basic icon for you. I've got an idea for a better one though, that will probably take me until tomorrow night. Or longer if tomorrow nights episode is good.

*laughs* It's no big deal. The only reason it'll take some time is that I'm on a "new" second hand computer. So I have to reinstall all my graphics programs and find an image online to use since I don't have screencapping ability anymore.

Though I'll never say no to good fic you don't have to write anything in return. Consider it payment for everything you've written already. :D

I am exactly 100% useless with all things visual. Words are my medium, and I'm sticking to that. ;)

*Blegh!* Well, this sucks. It needs to be cropped closer and maybe lightened up a bit so you can see Sam better and I'm not happy with the font. But it's after midnight here and I won't do any better until after a good night sleep, so here's a *very* rough draft of the basic one I promised.
