In which I flail and panic about BigBang

I've already flailed in a really long-winded fashion at the lovely, patient, understanding folks who are doing BigBang with me, so this is more of a generalized, short-version flail.

1- I changed my mind about what I was going to write a couple of weeks ago. God.

2- I am PANICKING because the deadline is in five weeks and I've only got about 2,700 words written and OH GOD.

3- I think my new story might be too big to write. *headdesk*

Did I mention OHGODOHGODOHGOD. /o\

So since I have a decent amount of time to myself today, I am giving myself a wordcount goal for the end of the day of 5,000 words, so that I can at the very least feel as though I'm not falling into a black pit of writing-induced despair. There's a reason I usually only write things that are under 6,000 words. Gah!

Since wordcount meters have seen me through NaNoWriMo in the past, I figure I'll use one for this too, at least at the beginning. Once I have sufficient momentum going, the story itself should be enough to get me to the end.

2763 / 20000 words. 14% done!

I refuse to despair until April 30th.

You, uh...have close to the same amount written that I do. And my plot hasn't changed since I signed up months ago. *facepalm*

But anyway, wishing you the best of luck! Whatever you write is going to be awesome, and you're totally going to get through it AND make the deadline. *nods*

*hugs*

Go, you! Haut les coeurs! Almost half of my big bang was written in two weeks, and I'm not a quick writer (I have to check the English/French dictionary all the time, for God's sake!). I thin at one point something just... clicks. Five weeks is totally doable. :)

Thankgodthankgodthankgod -- I am not the only one. Who changed what she was going to write at the last minute (it went from J2 to SN AU in one fricking night). The relief I felt when this happened -- because I know it's the story that's meant to be written but I don't think -- unless I write around the damn clock between now and April 30th -- I can possibly get it done. I have a decent amount done but the middle remains unwritten and I know what I want to do but it -- eludes me. As does time many days -- time that's not interrupted by the phone or mindless errands or mundane things having to do with dealing with my family. But I really, really want to write it because I -- kind of like it and I think other people might like it and if I do get it done it'll be one of my better efforts as far as finishing something by a deadline.

I feel some all-nighters in my future. Ha-ha, but who does that, stays up all night writing on their BB fics?

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha-ha, but who does that, stays up all night writing on their BB fics?

Hah! No one, obviously. I mean, fanfic writers? Obsessed enough to pull all-nighters? Unheard-of. ;)

I refuse to despair until April 30th.

I think I need to write this in big letters on a sticky note and tape it to my laptop. If I spent as much time writing as I did worrying about not finishing, I'd be done by now. :|

[identity profile] claudiapriscus.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, I've decided to scrap mine and start over! But I'm not going to even think about it until I finish the crossover one which is like...well, not done, but definitely there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm putting my faith in the fact that looming deadlines are extremely motivating. Hell, I scrapped my master's dissertation and basically rewrote most of it a week and a half before it was due.

I continue to cheer for you! *waves pompoms*

I wonder if a BigBang is like a PhD. 'Cos at the end of my PhD I was writing 10,000 words a day and taking hour-long walks and reading the Palliser series by Anthony Trollope. Very weird adrenalin-fuelled productivity. Didn't last long, but when the deadline loomed I went mad. Maybe the BigBang deadline will have the same effect? (In which case you could substitute writing us drabbles for the hour-long walks and reading of Trollope. Win-win.)

[identity profile] primrose-1.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Breathe. In. Out. Good. You're going to be fine! I'm excited to read it!

[identity profile] sothcweden.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't despair! It's still five weeks away, you have ideas, and you have a cheering section! Go, you! Best wishes.

[identity profile] peppervl.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
*pets* You will get it done and we will all love it. :D I have faith. And it takes lots of caffeine and constant word-count updates to stay on track and write most of a Big Bang in three days. *shifty look*

And on a semi-related note, did you read mine? I know you're rushed and swamped and it's hugely insanely long, so don't feel like you have to, especially if it involves pushing other things like your own writing back, but I was just wondering. If you're not going to get to it until after you're done with yours, that's cool, just lemme know, please?

[identity profile] tifaching.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
You're writing AND you're betaing?? Sheesh!! You'll be fine. Fine, fine, fine. You are awesome and nothing you've come up with so far has been less than amazing. I'll be part of your cheering section too because I can't wait to read what you come up with!

[identity profile] seramercury.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG! I'm doing the SPN big bang too and I'm going to die! Plus my damn muse keeps giving me plot ideas for other fic which I have to jot down so I don't forget, but it's refusing to cooperate for my big bang!! The nerve!!

Much luck to you!! <33

[identity profile] dante-s-hell.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
You'll do it! You work best under pressure :-)

Good luck!

erm, my human has a whooping 4k done of her bigbang. And yesh, the deadline is 5 weeks away.

So yep, this kitty commiserates with you - maybe I should just get both you and my human drunk and see what comes out your pens?

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

*waffles anxiously*

*goes back to writing*

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Your writing skills have me in awe. God, I have no idea how I'm going to pull this off...

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe I should put myself a sticky note on my laptop too.

Less worrying, more writing.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, I feel a bit better now. Wow. Your master's in a week and a half? I am impressed.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
LOL

Drabbles, eh? Well, I suppose I could ask for prompts... It's not like I have FIVE other SPN projects on the go apart from BigBang... oh, wait.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

*waves pompoms at you too*

Wonder twin powers, activate!

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
I'm only sort of betaing. Mostly what I'm doing these days is panicking. ;)

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
*tries very hard not to hyperventilate*

GO GO GO

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

*flails more*

Thank you!

*goes back to writing*

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Oh hey! I actually read most of it. I had to stop for a while when life got crazy, but I should be able to get back to it soon. :)

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
You too?

I'm trying to write BigBang and the Muse is all "Hey, you know what would be awesome? If you wrote a tag to 5.03!" and "Ooh, I just thought of something cool for that sequel to 'Ex Crucio' you wanted to write. How about it?"

Seriously, what the hell?

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know about "best," but I do work well with a deadline...

Gah.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Alcohol! My kitties agree that you may be onto something.

*goes to grab a beer from the fridge*

Your human is about where I am, so here's to madly dashing to the finish line!

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

Well, at that point, I'd basically been living, sleeping, and breathing the material for three months. And I had a lot of text (and more importantly, footnotes, those would have been a pain to redo) that I could salvage, even if I had to completely tear apart all their paragraphs and sections, sentence by sentence Plus, it was just for an mlitt, it was only ~14,000 words. But still, there was very little sleep that week.

Also- I've seen you go "hey, I just wrote these three 4000 word one shots and also, here's a 30,000 word multichapter fic." I don' think you have anything to worry about.

[identity profile] charis-kalos.livejournal.com 2010-03-23 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if you ever do call for drabble prompts, I want Dean and Sam thanking the people who helped puppy!Sam along his journey.
