Does ANYONE out there still enjoy this?

It feels like everywhere I turn, all I'm seeing is angry SPN fans. People who hate the storyline. People who hate Amelia. People who hate Benny. People who hate Cas. People who hate the flashbacks/story structure.

People who hate Sam because he's clearly 100% in the wrong and want him to DIAF for being such a terrible brother to Dean.

People who hate Dean because he's clearly 100% in the wrong and want him to DIAF for being such a terrible brother to Sam.

So I figured I'd do a poll, for SCIENCE. What are your feelings, flist? Do you all really hate things as much as it feels like you do? Or are there some of you out there who are still enjoying yourselves?

[Poll #1883371]

I'm really enjoying it! I guess I'm out of fandom enough that I'm not seeing all the hate so that's nice. Amelia isn't my FAVORITE but she's not ruining the season for me. And Benny is the best thing since sliced bread imo. I think this is the best season since S5.

Note: "stopped" probably means "paused", I do believe I still intend to pick it up again, but I am way way way behind on this season.

...Idk what to say, man, this is why I'm glad I'm not involved in the fandom in any way whatsoever. SPN fans are the wankiest fans since Doctor Who.

All the vitriol about story lines and changes overall is exactly why I don't dig around in the fandom much any more. I love the show still and at this point I can safely say there isn't anything I can foresee that would change that. There have been ups and downs in every season but I keep coming back for more. I never have understood why people keep watching a show they claim to hate. Me? Still love it.

[identity profile] de-nugis.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess I'm somewhere between ups and downs and a little meh? To me, the season is acting a bit like a biscuit dough gone wrong: it keeps falling apart in little clumps when I try to give meta shape to it. And I feel like some of their character decisions are going in the wrong direction, somehow, that they are reasoning back to them from stories they want rather than starting with them and seeing where the stories go. But I've liked quite a bit of stuff in quite a few of the episodes.

I'm still enjoying it, sweetie. Even when they make us kind of yell at the screen that's a good thing, it means they're making us engaged with the characters. I do want to bop both of them on the heads sometimes but I could never hate either one of the brothers. I think they're both damaged and not talking to each other and have both made mistakes because of it. But I still care about both of them.

[identity profile] elliemurasaki.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope 'stopped' means 'paused', but I'm seven eps behind and it might be time to concede.

[identity profile] klutzy-girl.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I am enjoying this season very much, tbh, and I don't think either brother is wrong. It's not black and white at all.

I try to ignore the fandom most of the time.

[identity profile] fourtenpm.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm enjoying it, guess it also helps that this is pretty much the only show that I watch.

[identity profile] rbmi-fan.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm in and out of fandom right now, but I'm definitely enjoying the season. The overarching plot is kind of 'meh.' Sam and Dean are awesome in every way. I like Benny as a character, and both he and Amelia make my inner outsider-POV fan squee. Oh, and Cas is being Cas-ey. Always fun.

[identity profile] debbiel66.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't like the current storyline so I have decided to wait it out. This is entirely different, though, than giving up on Show. I just feel like it needs to find its way again, and I really don't doubt that it will.

[identity profile] janie-tangerine.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm enjoying the hell out of it. I could do with some more Cas but overall I'm fine with how they're doing - surely I've enjoyed until now a lot more than I liked S7 overall (if we don't count the last two episodes).

[identity profile] gidgetgal9.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Complicated seems to be the theme this year and I think we are a give us what we want now kind of fandom. I'm still think all the build up and angst will have a worth while pay off and enjoy watching the boys develop outside their relationship and I see them being stronger in the end. I read a great review at Huff Post - and it mentioned an interesting interpetation of what Amelia and Benny represent to each brother. It is definitely a season that makes you think and keeps you on your toes.

[identity profile] an-cat-dubh.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm 3 episodes behind but I do intend to catch. I was hoping the mid-finale would make me want to but all the reviews I've been reading make me think not yet. I probably though during the hiatus, I've been rewatching a lot of old episodes lately.

[identity profile] passing-through.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I still have mad for the boys and the show. Sure, I have ups and downs about the show and what's going on, but that's just one of the many things that keeps me coming back every Wednesday night (and downloading each episode to watch again on my laptop). I'm really careful about where I hang out in fandom because I don't want to hear wank and hate. What I like to read is people's thoughts on the show without all the wank and hate, which on occasion can be hard to find. So, overall happy, anxious and very excited to see where the show is going next.

Me, three.

I want to watch but haven't had the time!!! I only watched Ep 1. So far, I feel pretty butthurt about Amelia and Benny, but Show has done this before and has always come back to what it's about... SAM AND DEAN, hunting things, saving people. Please, please Show... remember that!

:)

[identity profile] lunasky3.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
This is one of my favorite seasons in a while! I think it has appropriate brother angst (because we can't escape it) because both are actually growing up a bit. Dean initiated a feelings conversation! Sam acknowledged the fact that he really, really, really wants to stop hunting! Cas has a really interesting storyline coming up. Amelia is disappointing because she's so normal but I still like her. Benny is adorable.

I mean, last year around this time I was clawing my eyes out over Bobby. So I'm happy :)

I'm not a fan of Amelia, and Sam's always had times where he's been a little (a lot) hot-headed and annoying to me, but I still love BOTH my boys and I'm enjoying the season and really curious to see where they're taking it. I'm certainly not angry about anything to do with the show. ;)

Also, I really, really love Benny. There are people out there who hate Benny? Why? HOW?? *cuddles him*

[identity profile] zubeneschamali.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm going to be lazy and say, "Yes, this," which is why I picked "Other."

[identity profile] ph0enix-flyer.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm lovin' it.

Me and my friend watched the latter part of season 6 and all through season 7 together and he's really starting to lose interest in it, now. He dislikes that Sam and Dean are always at odds over petty things, he feels the plotholes are widening, the twists are 'eh' and the the plot is driven by circumstances and not the characters.

Those are his opinions and I can see where he's coming from with most of them.
The plot hole thing I certainly can, but most of the plotholes he lists aren't actually important to the brothers now (like the Anti-Christ child and other characters falling off of the map). Not to mention that this season they've been better for mentioning the show's past than they have been in at least 3 seasons.
The twists I love. So I disagree completely on that one.
The first and last points are connected, and I can see his point, but I don't agree.

Sam and Dean have done nothing but argue over the past few seasons or so. However, there has always been some major reasoning for it in the past: Hell & demon blood, saying 'Yes', lack of a soul and inconceivable betrayals, insanity and redemption.
This time - though going to Purgatory wasn't a little thing by any means - the argument the brothers are having is actually a PETTY one. Klutzy_girl said it best: the whole thing is just shades of grey. Neither brother is wrong, but neither brother is seeing the others' side. Someone or something needs to drive the brothers together to sort it, because they clearly need a shove (though the episode 10 promo makes an intervention to their arguing look promising).
It's annoying seeing the brothers so at-odds because, in the past, noone has EVER had to remind the brothers that they have each other. I dislike that Benny, Garth and Cas have had to repeatedly show the brothers what they've still got in each other. But still, that's not something we've seen in this way before and the brothers are adults now; they're going to clash a lot, as staying together at this age isn't normal for men.

As for the storyline and Cas?
All I can say is that it's better than the Leviathan one was. Plus, we've been rather spoiled in the past. We're judging the storyline on past epic seasons such as 4 and 5. If the order had been different and those two were how the show ended, I doubt anyone would be complaining anywhere near as much about 6, 7 and 8.
And Cas is my favourite character. I'm not bothered by his presence at all. Though it does bother me that the guy keeps getting whammied into things like insanity or power-loss in order to be able to actually keep him around. But, that's what you get when you introduce such a powerful character. What's looking like genuine mind-control from his own kind is something new, and I'm excited to see how it goes.

[identity profile] quickreaver.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm totally committed to the show and am digging Season Eight. Taking a step back, I want to give Carver the room to tell the story he wants to tell, in the way he wants to tell it. I get bored with the same ol' conventions. This isn't Law and Order, where every episode is basically a stand-alone vehicle, following the same format over and over. I LOVE big plot arcs, I LOVE friction, I LOVE the boys turning back to each other after said friction...

That being said, I'm a teensy bit iffy on the lean towards soap opera melodrama that occurred this last episode, but only a teensy bit because I don't think The Powers That Be will let this dwell for long. I have a feeling everything will curl onto itself, and Sam's arc and Dean's arc will intertwine and it'll be gloriously complicated and dangerous and kick-ass. I like to discuss the show's ups, downs, and what-ifs with the fandom, but I don't like character bashing or dogmatic pissing and moaning. I respect anyone's right to be disenchanted with the show, but don't rain on my parade, okay? If misery loves company, keep company elsewhere.

My two cents.

I'm enjoying this season, enjoying SPN in general again after becoming very disheartened back in...oh, season six.I've decided that the trick is to watch it marathon-style, rather than as the episodes come out. It is surprising how much more enjoyable the show is that way- the faults don't register as much, and there's less time to get hooked on promising subplots or interesting characters or to care about the season arc as much, so when the pacing is a little off or the interesting subplot/character just randomly disappears, it's not as annoying.

[identity profile] quickreaver.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
AGREED. How can you not adore Benny's drawl? And his sexy fisherman's fashion sense. Girl? PLEASE. ;)

[identity profile] ph0enix-flyer.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed x2.

I'm English, so his accent screwed me over at first and I had to re-watch the episode once I figured it out.
But, the guy seems genuine and he's actually quite funny at times. I want to see more of the dude. Though a little less soap-opera from his storylines would be nice. XD

Needs ticky boxes! :) I'm enjoying the season more than I expected too. I'm no great fan of Amelia but I'm willing to wait and see what they do with her. I was initially less than pleased to have more Castiel, but I enjoyed him quite a bit in the last ep with him. As far as Sam and Dean go, I'm just as bibro as always.
