[SPN Podfic] Not In Kansas Anymore

So by way of procrastinating on my Dean/Castiel Big Bang, I decided to do something nerve-wracking. I'm testing my boundaries, or having a mid-fandom crisis, I dunno. Anyway, back in the day when [livejournal.com profile] nwhepcat wrote Not In Kansas Anymore I thought it would be really awesome if someone did a podfic of it. And then sometime last week she posted giving people blanket permission to podfic her stuff, and I decided it was a SIGN.

So, uh, this happened.

I think it's pretty good for a first attempt ever at podfic. I've been told by reliable sources that the French accent some people claim I have isn't audible, so yay! Unfortunately my recording program picks up on my computer fan, and there's nothing I can do about that, but otherwise I think it works.

I had to learn a ton about recording a bit on the fly, but it was fun.

I owe a HUGE debt of gratitude to [livejournal.com profile] elsewhere_kels who schooled me properly in the basics of podficcing: everything from which settings to use in my software all the way to podficcing etiquette, metadata, and how to differentiate between narration and dialogue without killing my vocal cords. She also discovered an accidental glitch in a previous recording, which I *really* hope is fixed now. I've listened to it so many times I'm kind of cross-eyed.

Also thanks to [livejournal.com profile] pkwench who also did a fair amount of hand-holding for me (you'll have noticed this is a recurring pattern).

:::ETA:::

[livejournal.com profile] elsewhere_kels made a PODBOOK for me! Because she is awesome!

It's really lovely - and one my husband will listen to on a joint car-trip so a double yay!

I am on a MacBook too and use GB. I managed to get the fan sound down with compression. I find that I spend more time mixing and compressing than I do reading. Hee.

I can't wait to hear more from you.

Oh, man, I spent SO much time trying to get the mixing to work. I feel your pain.

I wouldn't even know how to start compressing. I am not quite computer-illiterate, but I really don't know that much about stuff outside of word processing and basic html. ;)

I hope you and your husband will like the rest!

Garage Band continues to elude me. I did find this (http://www.voiceovertimes.com/2008/01/04/10-tips-for-editing-a-podcast-in-garageband/) really helpful and have since made a master track that sets things up so I am down to a few hours of post-reading versus a few days.

I am sure we will, thank you!
