Take Me Home (Master Post)

So I was having a little conversation in the comment section of my last story with [livejournal.com profile] elsewhere_kels, in which I lamented that I'd forgotten to add in a "Lassie" reference when I tossed Dean down a well (yes, I'm really mean to Dean, I think we all get that now).

The original plan was to have a snippet of dialogue that would go a bit like this:

Sam: "Hey, Timmy, did you fall down the well?"

Dean: "You realize that makes you Lassie, right?"

Sam: *bitchface*

To which [livejournal.com profile] elsewhere_kels replied: Aw, no! A Lassie reference would have been epic! It's no wonder, the only way it could have been improved and you've already thought of it.

Then the conversation went like this:

[livejournal.com profile] elsewhere_kels: Do iiiit. =D The Power of Collie-Sam compels you!

Me: Lassie!Sam makes me giggle like a mad giggling thing. ;)

[livejournal.com profile] elsewhere_kels: ...You know there has to be Trickster!Gabriel-turns-Sam-into-a-Collie fic where he's kind of woobie over him now, right? x3

Me: Oh my God, that would be cracktastic.

And thus, a crack!fic was born. I make no apologies for this, because it's total and utter crack, and it ATE MY BRAIN and wouldn't leave me alone until I wrote it. It's not finished yet, but it's nearly done, and I've been writing almost non-stop since early on Monday, when I first decided to start typing. So I'm going to start posting, maybe one or two chapters a day. They're short, so I think it's okay.

:::ETA:::

Okay, it's done. It's longer than I thought it would be, and it sort of moved away from crack into more serious territory about halfway through the fic, and especially in the final third of the story.

:::/ETA:::

It's utterly unbeta'd. This is the master post: links to all chapters will go here.

Title: Take Me Home
Summary: The Trickster decides to have some fun with Sam. Wackiness ensues, with a healthy helping of whump, because it's me and I can't leave the boys intact.
Spoilers: All aired episodes up to 5.10
Word Count: 54,776 (COMPLETE! Thank God!)
Disclaimer: Luckily for them, I own nothing. Otherwise they'd be in for a world of hurt.
Warning: Utter crack. A little bit of non-explicit het (there will be warnings in the appropriate chapter), swearing, violence. Also, dogs. Lots of dogs.
Neurotic Authorial Disclaimer: No beta, written in such a hurry I'm amazed my fingers managed to connect with the keyboard.
Neurotic Authorial Disclaimer #2:I take NO responsibility for this, because it's cracktastic and weird and I can't believe it came out of of my brain. If you are scarred for life after reading it, it's NOT my fault!
Neurotic Authorial Disclaimer #3: It's basically "Lassie Come-Home," Winchester-style. I dunno. STOP LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT!

Hi. I don't suppose you'd be willing to either upload a single story file or email me one. I'd love to read this, but I don't think I can sit at the computer and click through 30 chapters. With longer fics, I've been tending to put them on my Kindle. I'd appreciate the help. Thanks.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Umm... I would, but I don't know how to upload one.

Can you read Open Office files? I can always email you the file. I work on a Mac, and I don't have anything like Adobe to convert it to a .pdf.

Otherwise, I'll see if some charitable person on my flist can be of assistance.

[identity profile] ancastar.livejournal.com 2010-02-11 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know if I can read Open Office. I'm on a PC and use Office (Word). Could you save it as an RTF? That should work across platforms. My email is ancasta7atgmail.com (obviously sub out at for @).

Thanks for being willing to do this! I really appreciate it.

RE: Mac's. You can alsways "SAVE AS" and make it a PDF. Pretty much all mac progs give you that option. If it's not under "SAVE AS" it might be under your "PRINT options".

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-02-28 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I did manage it after all, but thank you! :)

[livejournal.com profile] le_maistre_e has agreed that we should get together and watch Supernatural at some point. Oh, by the way, she also wants to know what station in Montreal plays it. I couldn't help her because I download it off the interwebs. Any idea?

[identity profile] kitty-z-finn.livejournal.com 2010-03-19 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry for the late reply. Busy!

SPN plays on Space (Channel 70) Wednesdays at 10PM. Always a week behind the US schedule I think.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-03-19 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
No worries.

Figures we'd be behind the times.

Looks like I'll be continuing my downloading habits. :)

Thanks!

I need to get my hands on a d/l of Jump the Shark as I STILL HAVEN'T SEEN THE DAMN THING YET!!!!!!!

The episode mentioning that one again is coming up and I don't want to get LOST!!!

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-03-19 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Really?!?

Huh.

I didn't really like the episode all that much, frankly, but that's because it hit all of my personal discomfort buttons.

I have Season 4 on DVD, if you ever want to come by and watch it. :)

Here's a torrent link: http://eztv.it/ep/14294/supernatural-s04e19-jump-the-shark-hdtv-xvid-fqm/ It's been up for a while, so I don't know if you'll be able to d/l it at any reasonable speed.

Feedback.......Finally

[identity profile] kitty-z-finn.livejournal.com 2010-03-19 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
OK.. so I have a few points to make...

1) I read it over again and it's STILL AS AWESOME as the first time I read it! *flails like a flaily thing*

2) No matter how much you deny it, you DID write a Littlest Hobo fanfic.

3) I still love your imagery.

4) You still make me all Awwwww and HOLY CRAP WHAT JUST HAPPENED!!!!! with your writing.

5) We do need to do the peanut gallery for an SPN night.

Re: Feedback.......Finally

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-03-19 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww! *blushes*

1- I'm so glad you liked it!

2- I never denied it! I just saw it more as "Lassie Come-Home," because that's what I modeled it on. But it definitely has Littlest Hobo vibes. I loved that show! :D

3- *blushes more*

4- *continues to blush*

5- Yes! SPN night! We'll recruit [livejournal.com profile] le_maistre_e and maybe a couple of others, pop some popcorn, and have a grand old time. :D

2) I kept hearing the theme song every time he ran into someone.

5) If you don't mind having a wee one wandering around early in the evening, we can do it over at my place in NDG. I don't get out all that often as weekends are pretty much my time to look after Hunter. (That sounds worse than it actually is, but makes sense in my head)

POP CORN AND FOOD AND MUNCHIES AND GOOD FOOD AND LAUGHING AND TRYING NOT TO PEE FROM THE SNARK FLYING AROUND THE ROOM!!!!!

OK.. done with the flaily and screamy.

Re: Feedback.......Finally

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-03-20 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
I don't mind in the slightest. Most of my friends have ankle biters, so I am reasonably well-versed in having wee people running around. :)

I have a weird schedule, but I'm generally free either two or three evenings out of the week. We'll have to figure out what works for both of us.

WHEEE!

Flaily and screamy is perfectly welcome in this LJ.

(Hmm. Login fail. Sorry.)

[identity profile] kitty-z-finn.livejournal.com 2010-03-20 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Well I do believe that B gave you my number. Give me a call over the weekend, when you have a chance and we'll try to work something out for maybe a week or 2 from now. Give everyone a chance to schedule and pencil us in. (I feel all important now)

Re: Feedback.......Finally

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-03-20 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, she didn't.

I'll ping you with a PM in a moment. I'm working this weekend, but I can call in the evening, if that's okay.

What time is dinner/bath/bed in your household? Or, more specifically, when is a good time to call?

Or I can call on my lunch break. That works too. ;)

after 7 minutes shy of 3 hours on the phone, you actually got me to post something on my page. it's a whole lot of sleepy flailing.

I actually think I'll start posting more. I'm getting more snarky with each fic I read. (it's PROSTATE people.. the other thing doesn't mean what you think it means!! spellCHECK does what it says on the tin! use it!

ok.. gonna go back to hiding now.

I saw! You should totally post more. :D

(What word could possibly be used instead of "prostate?" Is it "prostrate?" That's not even a noun!)

Hi there - I've just found this and really want to read it. But, I was wondering, do you have it available as a single document? Word, Open Office, etc? I'd love to print it out to read on the train. Thanks :)

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I do indeed! I have it as Open Office and as a pdf. PM me with your email address and let me know which one you want? I have yet to master the art of uploading something like that to the internet.

I'm so pleased you're interested!

I'm really interested. Just found all your stories and am making my way through your master list. I love your stuff so far. :)

When I started this, I thought I'd get some laughs and giggles - but as it turns out, while there still was plenty of humour and chuckling, this was serious and emotional and suspenseful and just plain brilliant. Everyone's character is spot-on; even Sam, as a dog, is still Sam, which is amazing. And you even had me feel sorry for Gabriel in the end, which let me tell you is very hard to do (but your is the best explanation I've seen of why Gabriel is so interested in the Winchesters).

and I loved how both Castiel and Sam thought each was just barely tolerant of the other, and how they both came to realize that it's not true. :)

Loved it!!

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2011-05-16 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you very much! And bizarrely, you just described my experience writing this. I thought I'd get some laughs and giggles, and then suddenly Gabriel and Castiel started having feeeelings and then there was PLOT. IDK, but it all worked out.

I'm very glad you liked it! :)

[identity profile] wine-echos.livejournal.com 2011-08-31 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
You recced this to me a few months back. Not sure if I commented then but this is one of my favorite Sam as an animal fic. It's quite the adventure

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2011-09-03 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much! It was a hoot to write, so I'm really glad to hear when people enjoy it. :)

Hi! Since megaupload is out, is there another way to have a PDF (or doc.... I don´t mind), please?
Maybe you can send it to me? Sorry to bother you, but I´d love to read it via my e reader.
