Dear brain, shut up
So the plot bunnies are attacking again, in full force. Except this time, apparently, they're telling me that my new plot requires wincest.
Which, um.
Yeah.
...
I dunno.
I gleefully read pretty much anything in this fandom. Slash, wincest, RPS, you name it. As long as it's well-written, I will enjoy anything fandom has to throw at me. Sometimes even when it's not all that well-written but hits my kinks anyway. *cough* Anyway.
Writing it? That's a whole 'nother kettle of fish. I've managed sex a handful of times, all of it R-rated and less, and of that handful of times 90% of it was het. The teeny-tiny bit of slash I've managed was Dean/Cas.
To say that I am freaking out at what my brain is trying to get me to do would be putting it mildly. Yet another line fandom is nudging me across, it seems.
Gah.
I'mma go be conflicted over here in this corner, mmkay?

Well, there's one vote in favour, at least!

Egads. Yet another line fandom is making me cross. Who knew?

Cool. Thank you! I'm not sure where the plot bunny came from.

So I hear you on being conflicted, but really, ignore it and just do it because the bunnies are friggin' vicious.

Fandom, what are you DOING to me?

This fandom whittles away at your mind, I think... and makes you like it.
On the other hand, go ahead with the bunny! I would LOVE to know what you do with it!

It's true what fandom can incite you to do. I wouldn't even READ wincest when I first found SPN online, never mind write it. Now.....Jeesh.
That being said, stick to what you are comfortable with. If it's a line you don't want to cross, don't cross it.
I'd love to read it though, if you do come over to the dark side!

I'm pretty sure that if the story flows organically the way I want, then I will traipse over that line the same way I've traipsed over so many other lines in this fandom. ;)

Since I read 95% gen and 4% J2AU and maybe 1% slash, I want my favorite writers to conform to my tastes! (It's all about me!) So by all means, follow your muse! But I'll be sad if your writing isn't 95% gen.

Does one story make me a wincester? I can't see myself writing that exclusively. It's just this one plot bunny so far, and it would be happening under very specific circumstances. I dunno. :)

The fic is going on my list. If I ever get to it, I guess it'll go where the plot bunnies want.

This LJ is already separate from my mundane one. Another LJ would confuse the hell out of me. :P

So, hum... now I love both, thanks to you. So whatever you decide to write, I'm sure it'll be amazing and I'll be with you all the way!

I don't see the wincest in canon myself, but I do love it in fic.

So far people seem to be fairly divided on the issue. ;)

I already have a LJ for my mundane life outside of fandom. If I start having more than two LJs, then things will get confusing for everybody. ;)

I think if you remember it's all fiction - it's not hurting anyone and it's not setting some moral standard, then it's easier to let the muse write the story the way that's truest to your voice. We can set all the imaginary lines we want. but...
I'm reading a book with mild incest that is a published novel by a previous Fandom writer (Harry Potter). I kept trying to figure out why the plot was pining me as familiar. Then it dawned on me - it's basically a very AU version of Star Wars. I think a lot of people forget the largest fictional franchise in the world has both elements of incest and underage and yet... It's all in how you tell the story and do those things make sense for taht story.
It's not that anyone is promoting RL incest or saying it's a good idea. Also as for explicit sex - for me it still depends on the story - can I "show" something through intimate contact that is crucial? AS reader sometimes I feel the sex is gratuitous - sometimes it's a natural progression of the characters. I think ultimately you have to be true to your own voice.

I have read books in which there was very explicitly not-mild incest (George R.R. Martin, I'm looking at you!), so it doesn't bother me as a fictional trope as much as it probably should.
Anyway, the only reason I'm thinking about it at all is because it adds a certain depth to the story that I think it wouldn't otherwise have. I don't even know how much sex there would be -that's not really the point of the story.
