Dear brain, shut up

So the plot bunnies are attacking again, in full force. Except this time, apparently, they're telling me that my new plot requires wincest.

Which, um.

Yeah.

...

I dunno.

I gleefully read pretty much anything in this fandom. Slash, wincest, RPS, you name it. As long as it's well-written, I will enjoy anything fandom has to throw at me. Sometimes even when it's not all that well-written but hits my kinks anyway. *cough* Anyway.

Writing it? That's a whole 'nother kettle of fish. I've managed sex a handful of times, all of it R-rated and less, and of that handful of times 90% of it was het. The teeny-tiny bit of slash I've managed was Dean/Cas.

To say that I am freaking out at what my brain is trying to get me to do would be putting it mildly. Yet another line fandom is nudging me across, it seems.

Gah.

I'mma go be conflicted over here in this corner, mmkay?

HAHAHAHA SPN fandom has no respect for our boundaries as writers. Give an inch and suddenly it's tentacle fic all over the place.

Well, there's one vote in favour, at least!

Honey, get used to it. Fandom has no respect for our personal boundaries. I'm kind of devout and religious and yet this fandom has made me read MPreg, slash, whathaveyou. And it has also made me *write* my first Wincest some time ago and is now DEMANDING me to do MPreg.

So I hear you on being conflicted, but really, ignore it and just do it because the bunnies are friggin' vicious.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
*cries*

Fandom, what are you DOING to me?

[identity profile] emmram.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
When I first started out on fandom less than a year ago, I had a big list under OMG I WIL NEVER READ EVEN UNDER SEVERE DURESS, but now that list has shrunk, and shrunk, until it contains only MPreg and RPS. In a few months, who knows?

This fandom whittles away at your mind, I think... and makes you like it.

On the other hand, go ahead with the bunny! I would LOVE to know what you do with it!

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I had a similar list too! Now it's been whittled down to mpreg and weecest. Hell, I even gleefully read RPS.

[identity profile] tifaching.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
The first thing I ever wrote was wincest and non-con to boot. Trust me when I say I was the most shocked person in the world over what I'd written.

It's true what fandom can incite you to do. I wouldn't even READ wincest when I first found SPN online, never mind write it. Now.....Jeesh.

That being said, stick to what you are comfortable with. If it's a line you don't want to cross, don't cross it.

I'd love to read it though, if you do come over to the dark side!

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? Which story was that? Inquiring minds want to know! :)

I'm pretty sure that if the story flows organically the way I want, then I will traipse over that line the same way I've traipsed over so many other lines in this fandom. ;)

possible sad face from me.

Since I read 95% gen and 4% J2AU and maybe 1% slash, I want my favorite writers to conform to my tastes! (It's all about me!) So by all means, follow your muse! But I'll be sad if your writing isn't 95% gen.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it'll still be mostly gen. One wincest story doesn't make me a wincester, I don't think I have about 65 stories out there, five of which have any sex in them at all. And gen will always be my first love, like [livejournal.com profile] roque_clasique, so don't worry too much. :)

[identity profile] claudiapriscus.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
NOoooooooo. Don't go over to the dark side. There are far too few non-wincesters in fandom!

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee!

Does one story make me a wincester? I can't see myself writing that exclusively. It's just this one plot bunny so far, and it would be happening under very specific circumstances. I dunno. :)

[identity profile] melanth0.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
When I started out in SPN, I wouldn't read Wincest. Then I read it, and eventually was coerced into writing it, albeit with fairly minimal actual sexual content. Eventually I drew some, too...I think a lot of people in this fandom make that slide, but no single step is actually that big of a deal, and you have so much else in your repertoire that I doubt anyone would judge you for it. If it's what this particular story wants, go ahead!

/2cents

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I accidentally stumbled on wincest when I entered fandom. It didn't occur to me that it even existed until I was already sucked into this one pretty long story, and by then I was hooked, so I kept reading.

The fic is going on my list. If I ever get to it, I guess it'll go where the plot bunnies want.

[identity profile] roque-clasique.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, you could always make a slash journal and not tell anyone about it until you feel guilty for god knows what and come clean!

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Gee, it's almost like you're speaking from personal experience. ;)

This LJ is already separate from my mundane one. Another LJ would confuse the hell out of me. :P

[identity profile] rainylemons.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
If it's Novakfest fic, though? It would work. Completely and utterly, it would work. *nods*

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not, though, more's the pity. This one is mostly canon-compliant. Up until the Wincest. :P

[identity profile] sinka.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 01:43 pm (UTC)(link)
When I started watching supernatural I was wary of wincest and all for the brotherly love, then started reading fics and the fandom made me a wincester (although only in fics, since I don't see it in the actual series). A few weeks ago *your* fics made me discover there were wonderful gen writers out there too and that well written brotherly love could be also amazingly satisfying.

So, hum... now I love both, thanks to you. So whatever you decide to write, I'm sure it'll be amazing and I'll be with you all the way!

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the vote of confidence!

I don't see the wincest in canon myself, but I do love it in fic.

[identity profile] sothcweden.livejournal.com 2010-12-12 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
As long as it's good storytelling, I say go for it! You could always follow in another awesome writer's steps and set up a secondary journal for that sort of thing if that would make you more comfortable...

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Nah. I am happy to own my deviance, even if I own it under a pseudonym on the internet. ;)

I already have a LJ for my mundane life outside of fandom. If I start having more than two LJs, then things will get confusing for everybody. ;)

[identity profile] locknkey.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I just wrote my first RPS - that was my 'never' line when first entering fandom.

I think if you remember it's all fiction - it's not hurting anyone and it's not setting some moral standard, then it's easier to let the muse write the story the way that's truest to your voice. We can set all the imaginary lines we want. but...

I'm reading a book with mild incest that is a published novel by a previous Fandom writer (Harry Potter). I kept trying to figure out why the plot was pining me as familiar. Then it dawned on me - it's basically a very AU version of Star Wars. I think a lot of people forget the largest fictional franchise in the world has both elements of incest and underage and yet... It's all in how you tell the story and do those things make sense for taht story.

It's not that anyone is promoting RL incest or saying it's a good idea. Also as for explicit sex - for me it still depends on the story - can I "show" something through intimate contact that is crucial? AS reader sometimes I feel the sex is gratuitous - sometimes it's a natural progression of the characters. I think ultimately you have to be true to your own voice.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I crossed that particular 'never' line once a few months back, but haven't felt the need to go back just yet.

I have read books in which there was very explicitly not-mild incest (George R.R. Martin, I'm looking at you!), so it doesn't bother me as a fictional trope as much as it probably should.

Anyway, the only reason I'm thinking about it at all is because it adds a certain depth to the story that I think it wouldn't otherwise have. I don't even know how much sex there would be -that's not really the point of the story.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-12-13 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
Heh. No, I would be a hypocrite of the worst order if I said I didn't like wincest. I'm just waffling in public. ;)
