Writing Epiphanies

Apparently being sleep-deprived and in the midst of renovation chaos is good for the imagination.

I think I figured out a couple of scenes that are "missing" from my BigBang. The ending was rushed, and I've been fretting about it ever since I turned in my rough draft. Now, though, I'm pretty sure I know where to fix it, and how to hit the emotional notes I was missing there.

I got my [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen prompts, and I am stupidly excited about them. As it turns out, I am friends with the prompter, and now I am SO NERVOUS about it! Somehow I think it's easier writing for strangers. Gah! Still, I love the prompts, and while they're a little bit outside of my comfort zone I am going to do my very best to do them justice. If I have the time, I may even write more than one, because they're all just that good. I'm going to start with one, though, because I have lots of fic commitments this summer.

Also? [livejournal.com profile] pkwench has helped me hash out some plot points and other interesting things for the [livejournal.com profile] deancasbigbang I suicidally signed up for this summer. I am planning a wee!Dean fic, just because. Actually, I had the idea way back when, and it wasn't really going anywhere, but [livejournal.com profile] pkwench helped me to hammer the idea into something workable, and now I'm excited about that too.

I still need to figure out what I want to write for [livejournal.com profile] spn_solstice. Entries are due in a month. I'm thinking of something [livejournal.com profile] dante_s_hell said a while back in someone else's LJ entry (I think it was [livejournal.com profile] roque_clasique) about someone needing to write an End 'Verse fic with Cas shotgunning marijuana smoke with Dean (to Dean? for Dean? I don't know what the proper preposition is for that particular verb, though I should probably look it up), and I loved the image that conjured up. In fact, part of me is wondering if I can't write that fic while keeping it gen and just using it to show how very screwed up it all is.

Anyway, there is your dose of authorial thinky-thoughts for the day. I should go do some writing now.

At first I wasn't sure if I was happy with my [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen's prompts, but now I have a bunny so... I too know my prompter. The advantage is that I know what will make her happy, but I'm also worried to mess up. (And now I wonder who your prompter is! Oh, the mystery!!)

Good luck with your other challenges!

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-01 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

I am dying to just run over and glomp my prompter, but that would totally defeat the point of the challenge. :P

I have some half-formed bunnies. I'm hoping they'll coalesce into something useful soon.

I don't know my [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen prompter at all--I don't know it that's better or worse....*g*

The prompt that seems most interesting is the kind of thing that I never, ever, ever write--almost on principle--so I don't know if I'm going to take the plunge with it....But some of the other prompts are very nice and open, so I'm thinking if I let it simmer for a while maybe something will come to me...here's hoping!

Good luck with the writing!

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-01 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

Yeah, all my prompts are stuff that... while I wouldn't say I would *never* write them, it's all stuff that it wouldn't occur to me to write, or that I've never been courageous enough to write yet.

So, we shall see!

Good luck to you too!

You see and my note on the ending was pretty much going to be: you rushed, but you know what you really want to do there. Do it! :) You see, I know these things.

I do not know my summergen person at all. The prompts aren't screaming at me (yet!), but they tempt me mightily and the first at least is working up to something. I just hope that what comes out is something that suits the prompter because there's two ways to take the prompt that most catches my eye. But, there's another that I like too. Hell, maybe I'll do both.

I know you don't have me for summergen unless you're being deliberately sneaky and misleading. I wonder who does. I'm so excited! I wonder if they're somewhere on LJ crying over the verbosity of my prompts and wondering who the hell I am. LOL

You DO know these things! That is why you're awesome.

No, I definitely don't have you for summergen, although, like I said, whichever prompts your person doesn't take, I'm going to be all over them like white on rice. ;)

I'm excited to know who I have for summergen too! *dances*

I am in full support of this notion!

You amaze me.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-01 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, thank you! I'm not sure why, but I'll sure as hell take the compliment. :)

*takes compliment and tucks it away somewhere safe so it can be taken out and admired at any time*

[identity profile] dante-s-hell.livejournal.com 2010-06-01 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, the shotgun marijuana fic. I'm so glad you're thinking of doing that. I can't wait to see what you come up with--gen or slash.

I think I'm going to do something along those lines as well accept it's going to be a fic where Dean smokes marijuana or medicinal purposes. I'm trying to iron out something so we'll see.

Good luck with all of your fics!

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-01 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

I'm still trying to figure out that particular fic, but the image you put in my mind won't leave me alone. ;)

I know some scenes are "missing" from my Big Bang, but they are not being helpful at all. :(

Considering how much trouble I'm having just editing and fixing and adding to my Big Bang, I will always be in awe of people who do so many challenges. You're awesome. And these stories sound great. Will the deancas wee!Dean story be gen or slash? (if you don't mind me asking)

I kind of wish that I'd signed up for summergen just to give myself another outlet and something else to work on when I want to bunch my Big Bang in the face.

I'm so excited to have people on my friends' list who are doing [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen that I can squee and commiserate with!

Before I signed up, I made a spreadsheet of the 50 or so prompters who had signed up before me (and then added all the ones after me), and gave them each a letter score A thru F: A if I should be able to handle one of their prompts, and an F if I was immobilized by terror at the thought of getting that person's prompts, with varying scores in between.

The good news is, I got one of my A's! The bad news is, it's someone whose writing I really admire, so I feel like I can't possibly live up to her expectations.

But still - an A! It could have been so much worse! I can do this. I just have to keep telling myself that!

And I'm so looking forward to whatever YOU write!

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-01 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
The deancas story will definitely be gen.

I have written exactly one story with teh sexins in it, and it's very mild het. I have yet to be brave enough to venture into the world of slash, although some of my work could, I suppose, be considered pre-slash, if you want. It's up to the reader to get what they want out of it. :)

There are lots of other challenges out there. Maybe you should go find one!

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-01 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Hurray!

I didn't do anything nearly as OCD as you did, but I glanced at the prompts and some of them terrified me forever. I missed the comment with the prompts I got, but I'm confident I can come up with something suitable. :)

I'm so glad you got prompts you liked!

[identity profile] crayola-fics.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
I'm the same way about stories. I've written a ton (never published) of stories, but I really can't do sex scenes. Or romance. I'm just not a very romantic person.

I should find a challenge, but I'm afraid that I'll have no time, now that my internship is about to begin. Excuses, excuses, heh. I'll probably wait for more no-pressure comment-fic memes. I love those.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-02 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
There is in fact a no-pressure meme going on RIGHT NOW at [livejournal.com profile] hoodie_time. Go forth and write schmoop! ;)
