Gen Fic, for SCIENCE!

This is something of a follow-up to a conversation in my post about the hypothetical Gen Big Bang, in which I discovered to my shock and dismay that not everyone agrees on what constitutes gen fic!

Thus I am conducting a poll for SCIENCE!

Please spread the word, I am really curious to hear opinions on the subject.

[Poll #1666301]

Is it just wincest, though? What about slash? (Dean/Cas, Sam/Gabriel, whatever other non-wincesty pairings there are) How explicit does the sex have to be before you'll consider it no longer gen? Or does that not come into it?

LOL it gets complicated. I guess when I first joined the fandom and discovered fan fiction, I only read the stuff at ffnet without warnings about slash (which by the way I thought as a naive person meant extreme slashy violence), I steered clear of the AU and things that I wouldn't picture happening on the show.

Then I figured out what slash actually meant and what wincest was and curiousity made me branch out.

I write what I consider general fic, and any sex I have in my stories are from creatures sexually molesting.

But at the same time, het that isn't the sole purpose of the story and doesn't have them settling down all happy ever after to me is general.

I guess I have no clue what gen is! LOL I will say that this fandom has taught me lots of things. Thank goodness for Wiki's Fan Fiction terms section! I'm still learning.

Maybe your poll will teach me just what it is. :)
