Stick a fork in me, I'm done

73,218 words, and I am done. Mostly. Sent off the last draft to [livejournal.com profile] pkwench for one last round of hand-holding and telling me where things don't work, and then all that's left is to wait for July 9th so I can post it. Oh, and do a whackload of html coding. Holy crap.

I added about 3,000 words to the last chapter, added in a bunch of missing scenes, extra lines, and tweaked some of the existing scenes so that there would be an actual emotional impact instead of, y'know, a grocery list of events. Oy. I hope I succeeded. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Now I'm going to scrounge up dinner, put on an episode of NCIS, and poke at my [livejournal.com profile] spn_solstice fic. I'm aiming for a short fic for that one, and as an added challenge I'm going to try for exactly 1,000 words, just because. It also means I'll be able to get it done relatively quickly.

After that, it'll be time to figure out exactly what I want to do with my [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen and [livejournal.com profile] castielfest fics, since they're both due one month and two weeks from now, respectively. I have a pretty good idea about [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen in terms of voice and characterization, but I'm still working on the plot aspect, and [livejournal.com profile] castielfest is still only a kernel of an idea.

Oof.

Chuck was right: writing is hard.

*clutches chest, breathing hard*

DO NOT SCARE ME INTO THINKING CASTIELFEST FICS ARE DUE IN TWO WEEKS! I'M HAVING ENOUGH FIC-RELATED PANIC-ATTACKS!!

*cough*

Congrats on your bigbang!! I is proud and cannot WAIT to read it!! *bounce bounce bounce*

And yes. Chuck was very, very write. Hold me?

*whimpers*

Sorry, did I screw up the dates on that? I may have. I, erm, have *cough* a couple of commitments and maybe I got the dates mixed up...

*holds you*

Gaaaaaah!

good lord, girl! 73,000 words? And you've been writing other stuff and joining challenges?!

Do you have to keep a fire extinguisher and spare keyboards handy or what?

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-28 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it was just shy of 70K when I handed in my draft, so I really only wrote about 3,000 extra words or so.

And it's not my fault all those challenges are so enticing... really, it isn't! I am blameless. Entirely.

[identity profile] claudiapriscus.livejournal.com 2010-06-28 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
it's not the extra words, it's the total words. Especially when I think back for how much you must have written in the last few months alone.

You are a writing machine! (which is good, because I'm an insatiable reader.) And I am amazed. I can't even imagine how you get so much done.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-28 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Obstinacy, lack of a social life, really inspirational prompts, and a dash of insanity, I think. ;)

[identity profile] calamitycrow.livejournal.com 2010-06-28 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
WOOT! \0/\0/\0/\0/

(not that this kitty wants 73k of Sam and Dean abuse mind you - perish the thought!)

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-28 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
No, certainly not!

[identity profile] tahirire.livejournal.com 2010-06-28 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
HOLY CRAP THAT IS A LOT OF BEING MEAN TO SAM WORDS!!!

But YAY! YOU DID IT!!! *\o/*

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-28 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
*does a little dance*

And yes, it is a whole lot of being mean to Sam. :D

[identity profile] tahirire.livejournal.com 2010-06-28 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I was somewhat mean to him when I did BB, so I suppose I can't talk TOO much. ;)

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Ergh, don't remind me. I am SO BEHIND on my BB reading. Haven't read a single one yet. I'm on vacation next week. Guh.

[identity profile] tahirire.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Psh. Mine was last year. This year I was making a wedding dress and decided that was more important. ;)

I haven't read any yet either - no time. I've become a fan of podfic. That way I can work on my other stuff and 'read' at the same time.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't have the mean to listen to podfic. I can listen to it on my computer, but that sort of defeats the purpose of being able to move around.

Although part of me thinks having podfic of my stuff would be awesome. :D

[identity profile] tahirire.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooooh. I know, right? But here's me having that conversation:

Me: Hey, uh - it'd be .. uh - reallycoolifyoudidapodficforme.
Podficcer: Sure!
Me: BUT WHY! I mean, uh - THANKS! :D
Podficcer: I'll let you know when I post it.
Me: Oh. Uh ... it'd be reallycoolifyoucouldjustemailittome.
Podficcer: BUT WHY.
Me: Um. Because I just want to hear what it sounds like. *facepalm*

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL

I know what you mean. Although I'd want other people to read it too. :)

[identity profile] tahirire.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm possibly too insecure for that. I'd have to see what I thought after I heard it first. But why put someone through all that trouble and then be like eeeeeeeh, no. You know?

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I've listened to a couple of fics on my computer, and it's like reading them. If the voice/story doesn't engage me within a few minutes, I just don't listen to the rest. :)

[identity profile] tahirire.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Things pop out to me more listening to someone read out loud. For instance, it would drive me insane if I was listening and noticed that on the final edit I missed it that I said the same word twice in the same paragraph. *headdesk* Listening to other people's fics is easy, lol.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Egads, I never even thought of that!

[identity profile] tahirire.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
See!?!!? MY PARANOIA IS TOTALLY JUSTIFIED!!!! DDDD:

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Good Lord.

[identity profile] tahirire.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
What's that guy say in 5.11? "I am calm. And I'd very calmly like to talk about the monster that's hunting us."

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds about right. I've only watched 5.11 once, and I probably won't rewatch it much: it's the one episode of Season 5 I really didn't enjoy much.

[identity profile] tahirire.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, seriously? I thought it was brilliant. The one I didn't enjoy was Fallen Idols - actually I think it's my all-time least favorite ep. (And amazingly enough, my reasons have nothing to do with Paris Hilton, LOL.)

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, God. I repressed that one. Fallen Idols was just terrible, and you're right: it really has very little (even nothing) to do with Paris Hilton.

5.11 disappointed me. I expected so much more from that episode in terms of the boys maybe gaining insight into themselves, and instead we just got more of the same. I've been spoiled by fanfiction, is the problem. ;)

[identity profile] tahirire.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol, fanfic does tend to spoil.

I kind of thought that too, at first - but I had the review on that one, and as I went through it for the review I noticed that it said a lot more stuff (A LOT MORE) than you would be able to catch on just one viewing. It being a psych type ep, a lot of the clues and hints are visual instead of expositional. Also, on the second watch you already know things you didn't know the first time, like that the Dr wasn't real, and it frees up yer brain to wonder what it all means. :)

Anyway. It's on my master list if you want to ever give it another shot. ;)

Plus, Sam's hair is very pretty. ♥

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
See, Sam's hair has annoyed me since he started growing it long. I miss the shaggy, floppy bangs from S1 & 2, although I understand why they didn't keep them. ;)

I flatter myself that I saw a lot of the visual clues, but I felt the episode didn't actually bring anything new to the table. It just stated what observant viewers already knew about the boys.

I'll probably give it another watch, see what comes up.

[identity profile] tahirire.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol, you're making me want to go watch it again and see what I think.

... ok, your icon is making me want to watch it again and see that scene.

.... and the pudding scene.

I think it was less the viewers learning new things and more the boys realizing what those things meant for THEM in the context of where to go from there. It was kind of the breaking point episode, where Sam decides to take his personal issues head-on and not be swayed and become more determined than ever, and Dean started his slide into despair, foreshadowing the fact that Dean would be the one to say yes later on b/c he'd given up.

.... I think in s6 Sam will have a ponytail and ride a motorcycle and look like Jesus. O.o

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I think in s6 Sam will have a ponytail and ride a motorcycle and look like Jesus. O.o

Oh my God. That would either be awful or epic.

[identity profile] tahirire.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Or epically awful. *waggles eyebrows*

Lol. It's been fun, babe. I'll let you get back to your life now. I gotta go experiment with cellophane.

.... for the FAIRY WINGS, of course. What were YOU thinking? ;)

*wanders away*

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I made fairy wings out of cellophane a few times.

I just assumed you were baking. ;)

[identity profile] bumblee.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Congrats bb! Good luck on all your other writing. I'm trying not to give up on my DCBB. ;/

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 01:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

I haven't started my DCBB, so don't you worry, you have plenty of time. Nearly six weeks before the rough draft is due. :)

[identity profile] primrose-1.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Good for you!!! I'm excited to read it!

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 01:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! :)

I'm excited to post it. I just hope people will like it. I don't think I've ever worked so hard on a fic ever (not that my career has been that long in fanfic, but still).

[identity profile] sothcweden.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Good luck! It'll all be over soon - and I'm looking forward to reading it.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

I only hope it lives up to people's expectations at this point.

*waffles*

[identity profile] crayola-fics.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Congrats! Your story is about twice as long as mine, so consider me quite impressed. I'm looking forward to reading yours, but it'll have to be after my posting date (July 13th). I've had to suspend all of my reading of Big Bang fics in order to force myself to finish editing mine... but it's a great incentive!

I am blown away by how many things you're entering stories into! You're awesome and I'm glad because that means more stories of yours to read :)

Also, I'd counter your Chuck quote with my own: endings are hard. urgh.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Tell me about it! I had to fight with my ending forever to get it to work, and I'm still not sure it does, but I'm too close to it now to see it objectively. Thank God for betas.

I had to put all reading of BigBangs on hold in order to get my writing done too, so no worries there.

[identity profile] roque-clasique.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
CONGRATUFUCKINGLATIONS I CAN'T WAIT

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-06-30 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
THANK YOU!

After [livejournal.com profile] pkwench, you and the others at [livejournal.com profile] betabang had to put up with the majority of my angsting and waffling and panicking, so thank you again. :)

Nine days left OH GOD. *flails*
