What is WRONG with people?

Just had to ban someone from

ohsam for posting the most horrific, insulting, gross comment to someone I happen to like and respect tremendously. Heck, even if it had been to someone I don't know, it would be just as bad.

It was an older post, too, and the comment seemed totally unprovoked as far as I could tell. It's not a bot, either, because I went and checked to see (so I could report the bot if necessary), it seems to be an actual person with other fandom people friended.

What the hell, I ask you?

Needless to say, this person's ass has been banned from the comm, no questions asked. This is the good thing about being the mod: I can decide if there will be second chances, and this time there will be none.

Jesus.

Indeed, the perks of being a mod are many, and I am grateful for them at times like this. The comment was just gross, a string of profanities and misogynistic and homophobic garbage.

JFC I can't even, that comment was so awful. Banning this person doesn't feel like enough, I want to go track her down and smite her and salt the earth in my wake. Alas, I can't do that, so banning her will have to suffice.

Sorry to hear you had to do that, I like to think everyone is happy and kind and lovely on these comms...

But the fact that you have dealt with it in such a good manner, and the fact that you DON'T have to deal with it often restores my faith in people just that little bit.

Further digging revealed it to be an account specifically created for trolling. Could be worse. I'm still annoyed, though.

It was an account specifically created in order to troll, looks like, so they may as well have been anonymous.

Drama! without thee, what is life! Some people are just hateful, sigh.

I know, right? I could do without this type of drama, mind you. :P

Wow, just out of the blue, huh? And an older post at that. I wonder what spawned that? Actually, nyah, I don't even want to know. Good on you for handling it. I hope the person it was directed at wasn't too upset when they got the comment notification in their email. :)

I suspect this person gets off on negative attention, so they misbehave like a child. NICE. And apparently it doesn't bother them one bit to slam someone else for that rush.

Your comment made me giggle really hard, FYI. I am totally keeping *poops on their karma* as an expression from now on.

I've come across some incredible jerks in random places around lj. People who mostly behave as normal humans and then turn around and do something completely awful. I'll never understand what drives people to behave that way. And it's frustrating because it's hard to know, unless you're directly involved in something, whether someone is pulling that kind of behaviour where it's mostly invisible.

I hope so too. I've already PM'd the person in question to let them know it was dealt with swiftly and with extreme prejudice, and I hope they don't take it badly. It was very clearly a troll after I did more digging around.

Ah, geez. I can't imagine being on the receiving end of that. It hurts my heart that anybody like that was lurking in ohsam.

It looks like they weren't there long: that and a few other accounts were created in the last month specifically for trolling purposes, from what I was able to find.

Ugh. I don't like to think any fellow ohsam members are capable of that. Guess my optimism is incorrect :/

No, your optimism is not unfounded. This wasn't a member of ohsam, and it looks like it was an account created specifically for trolling. They are a shitty person, whoever they are, and they and their buddies are now banned.

Tbh, I'm sad that this person is was a member of ohsam. I love this comm so goddamn much.

They weren't a member yet, as far as I could tell, and the account was created recently only so they could troll others, looks like. Hopefully people will catch on quickly and ban them everywhere.

Yeah, we had some ugly troll drama on Sammymeme lately, and it's cast such a pall, I am so disgusted.

People suck, and the Internet sometimes enables their suckitude.

Thank you for being your awesomely awesome self and handling what was apparently a bad comment/escalating situation swiftly. You's one of the reasons I adore ohsam so much. Seriously, it's really the only comm I care about anymore, and the way it's managed is one of the reasons. *hugs*

Yeah, being a Mod is awesome in this regard. Just hit the ban-hammer and ban them from all your comms + journal (had to do that last week too).

It's an automated program that generates usernames and uses the accounts thus created to post spam to other people's journals. It's short for 'robot.' :)
