Because it ought to be my birthday all month long

Okay.

It's not a secret by now that I am completely and totally obsessed with Supernatural, and that the only way I can work through this obsession is by writing fic.

I'm thinking casefic at this point (don't worry, I'm not giving up on the other WIPs I have), but because it's my birthday + 1 day I am going to make you work for it.

Give me a prompt for the case you've always wanted to see the boys take on and they never did. It can be anything from a one-word prompt ("UNICORN!") all the way to a full prompt complete with your favourite secondary characters or whatever.

After that I pick the prompt(s) I like best, and I'll write it (them). Also, I am happy to beat either boy into a puddle —within the confines of a casefic— for the record, if that's part of the prompt. It's not a secret that I'm a h/c whore.

Sound good?

I thought so, at any rate. ;)

Aaaaand GO!

This is an actual haunt here in Salt Lake City- The Shiloh Inn is haunted. Back in the 1970's, a man who called himself Emmanuel David declared himself to be the Holy Trinity, and formed his own religion. He and his family survived on church donations, living in penthouse suites all over the city, and eating at the finest restaurants. When the feds investigated him for tax evasion and fraud, he went up the canyon and killed himself. The police informed his wife, and the next morning, she very calmly took the children (I think there were 8) to the top floor balcony of the Shiloh Inn where they were staying, and threw them over. Some of the older children willingly jumped. One girl survived, and still lives with the followers of the religion. Now, the hotel is haunted by the ghosts of the children who died. They play in the pool area. You can hear them, but not see them. They took out the video game machine because it would play itself. Most telling, they play with the elevator. Most elevators are programmed to stay on the lobby level when not in use, but the elevator at the Shiloh Inn is ALWAYS on the top floor. It's been "repaired" several times, but I've been downtown, and the outside elevator is always resting on the top floor when not in use.

Oooh... cool.

I'll have to look that up. Dunno if Sam and Dean would be cool with salting and burning ghosts who aren't posing a threat, but I can maybe just borrow this idea and do something with it...

[identity profile] primrose-1.livejournal.com 2010-01-07 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
Looking online, it's cracking me up all the different versions there are. My version comes from the Salt Lake City ghost tour, which is run by some Storyteller friends of mine who do their research pretty well.
http://www.utahghost.org/Main%20Files/haunted_utah.html

This is just an idea for you to play with. I just think it's an awesome story. If it gives you good ideas for a story, then use it however you need to use it.

Eeee! Presents! :-) Happy birthday to you!!! Thanks so much, this is fun.

My prompt (heh):

"...that waitress in Tampa..."

*giggles, flees*

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-01-06 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Ack! What episode is that from?

[identity profile] clarity159.livejournal.com 2010-01-06 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Croatoan! :-)
http://supernaturalfanwiki.wetpaint.com/page/Croatoan+Quotes

Dean and/or Sam Whump is always to the good in a story. :-D Just sayin'...

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-01-07 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

It would have driven me nuts.

I think your prompt may end up as a shorter piece, would that be okay?

[identity profile] clarity159.livejournal.com 2010-01-07 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
Are you kidding?! I'm practically beside myself that you've even considered my prompt--eeeee! Can't wait to read what you do with it!

*twirls, flapping hands*

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-01-07 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee!

Thanks. I'm pretty excited myself. :)

[identity profile] pkwench.livejournal.com 2010-01-06 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
You know this is like asking me to go shop for my own present, don't you? You're just wicked!

But, since you asked ...ever see the movie 'The Descent'? Bloody, twisted mess that thing, but if you watch those kinds of movies (and I do, she admits) there's a certain dark, horrible charm and despair to the underground in that movie. So many narrow spaces, giant unknowable caverns, underground rivers, endless chasms, and a desperate need for light, rope, strong arms, and sanity. I'd really like them underground. Not the brief, easy, oh, look it's a mine shaft in Windego underground, but deep. Stygian darkness where signs of any previous explorers is probably kind of creepy and where unexpected shafts of sunlight maybe seem like the light of heaven itself.

As to why they have to go spelunking? Author's choice. Any manner of monster, supernatural or otherwise could be down there. There could be tormented spirits who wreak absolute havoc topside and whose bones can only be found, salted, and burned deep underground. Evil, nattery little stone fairies, a vampire or pack of vampires or even a werewolf gone mad and to ground, anything that makes you say "oooh!" I just think it'd be awesome to get them down there and to try to keep them whole, alive, and working with the only food and light that which they can carry with them.

Damn. Now I want to watch 'The Descent'. I blame you. :)

[identity profile] pkwench.livejournal.com 2010-01-06 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, and of course, you can't go underground like that without getting stuck and lost and separated.

[identity profile] pedal-blur.livejournal.com 2010-01-06 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! Also! Happy Birthday!!! God I'm crap. *kicks self* *hugs you* Hope it was wonderful, darling.

[identity profile] pedal-blur.livejournal.com 2010-01-06 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Also again... that didn't post where I wanted it to, and I don't know where this is going to post, so, oh god, I'm gonna hit post and then I'm going to run far away so you don't know it was me with the random out of order comments, despite, you know, the giveaway that is MY NAME. *cries*

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-01-07 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, you made me laugh really, REALLY hard! :D

The new style of LJ has a really annoying nesting comment system which is hard to navigate. I reply to the wrong thing all the time. :P

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-01-07 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

And you are not crap, you are adorable. :)

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-01-07 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Of COURSE NOT. That's the whole point! Well, one of the points.

DANIEL JACKSON! EEEE!

Okay, I'm calm. Composed, even.

[identity profile] pkwench.livejournal.com 2010-01-07 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Daniel Jackson is my Dr. Sexy. Guilty, guilty pleasure. ♥

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-01-07 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
I'm all about Amanda Tapping, myself, but I really like the whole team. SG1 are awesome. :)

[identity profile] pkwench.livejournal.com 2010-01-07 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
I love her. She's always thinking, never selfish, and she's badass in way that's awesome without being completely unrealistic. But, Daniel. I just want to give him cookies.

[identity profile] pedal-blur.livejournal.com 2010-01-06 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Can I second...? I'm seconding... *raises hand to second* THIS. With a side order of whumped Dean and badass, protective Sam. And by side order I mean one of those places where they serve you copious amounts and you don't think you can eat it all but then YOU DO.

Or. You know. Whatevs.

*shuffles off*

[identity profile] pkwench.livejournal.com 2010-01-06 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Lots and lots of Dean whump with stray, whimsical Deanacisms, and lots of badass Sam. Also? Sam's huge and caves underground can be so tight and small. This can be comical or dangerous or scary or horrific. Just, you know, saying.

That said, any one of these would make an awesome read.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-01-07 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
I think I can manage that. Yeah. I can definitely word with underground cavescapes.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-01-07 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I agree with this one. I am already Getting Ideas™. It is likely to end up long, so don't hold your breath.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-01-07 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen the movie, but I will be sure to check it out. The landscape sounds a lot like some of the dreams I've had, so I think I can make it really, really creepy. :D

I love this idea. It's going to take a while to write it, though. I want to do it justice.

And yes, I totally know it's like asking people to shop for their own present, but I work best with prompts, so.

[identity profile] pkwench.livejournal.com 2010-01-07 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
Wuha. I think this will be awesome. So, I can easily wait. :D

Do check out the movie. I'm kind of picky about my horror movies and that one gets my seal of approval. I think they do such a wonderful job with the landscape of the underground world. It's so completely alien, but then there's touches of the above which just make it more creepy and awful. Not to mention, hooboy, panic and hallucinations galore. Bit of gore, though, just as a warning.

You know I love yarking up prompts. If I could get paid to do it, I'd be the happiest girl on the west side. It's fun. And apparently only requires me to sit here and go "what if" and not do any of the actual work that requires talent, time, and mojo. It's a win-win.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-01-07 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds cool. I'm a little picky about horror movies too, but it sounds like the kind of movie I'd like.

I love your prompts. Your "what ifs" seem to strike a chord in me that makes me want to write-write-write.

So, win-win for me too. :)

[identity profile] animotus.livejournal.com 2010-01-06 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
It's late,I should go to sleep and I'm not very coherent right now...still...I can't wait till tomorrow for this one!:D

I suck with case fics,I'm not awake enough to think about this "writers-stuff",but I know that I like:
-Dean and Sam whumpage, more Dean than Sam!
-Protective-Badass-Sam!
-Dusty desert roads!
-Dean wth kids
-......

I guess you can skip my comment,I'm just listing random things...but I will be happy with anything you'll come up with!;D

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-01-07 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Hee!

Uh, I can't possibly write all of this in one day, it's not physically possible. I'm just fishing for ideas and I'll write them as they come, as fast as I can.

I like the idea of dusty desert roads. I'll see what I can come up with for that. :)

Dean with kids is awesome, I don't know if I can do it justice. (What was UP with "I Believe The Children Are Our Future"? Since when does Dean lie to little kids?)

[identity profile] animotus.livejournal.com 2010-01-07 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha!!Oh no,I didn't mean to list things to write!Really,do something that tickles your imagination!

What was UP with "I Believe The Children Are Our Future"?
CLEARLY Kripke&Co. don't know Dean as we do,it was so out of character!O_O

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-01-07 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Whoever wrote that part was clearly on CRACK. It's canon that Dean is awesome with kids, and I can't believe he'd ever do that.

Sheesh.

[identity profile] sg2009fic.livejournal.com 2010-01-07 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
You look like you hit the jackpot for prompts...but here is one more anyway! How about a fic about a harry potter like Boggart (sp?) monster that confronts you with your worst fears (scares you to death, whatever). Dean and Sam have a lot to be afraid of...

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-01-07 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
I did hit the jackpot, but I can always use back-up prompts. :D

I like this. It's sort of a "fear itself" kind of plot, although the ghost sickness episode came close to it.

*puts on thinking cap*

[identity profile] claudiapriscus.livejournal.com 2010-01-07 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
I'm kind of late to this party, but how about following some whump with some epic Winchester violent retribution? Bloody revenge is practically a family specialty.

Ok, maybe not literal bloody revenge. But scary "you shouldn't have done that" kickass winchesters? They're really awesome. Especially after teh whump.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-01-07 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah. Closure.

Closure is good. If the story lends itself to it (and it usually does), I will happily have one or both of the boys go back and kick the creature's ass. :D

[identity profile] arrann.livejournal.com 2010-01-07 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, Happy Birthday!
My prompt:
Weechesters alone in a cabin, some remote place, John out of reach. Dean is immobilized in bed, and some monster is coming. They can't call for help and Dean can't protect his brother physically so he has to come up with a PLAN and make Sam execute it.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-01-07 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, interesting.

I will have to think about what I can do with that...

[identity profile] roque-clasique.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, crap I totally missed this!
DARN.
Well, if it's not too late, here is my bid -- I prompted it at my meme-thing, too, LOL, but i don't know if anyone will take me up on it. I always leave this prompt and so far no dice. If you don't write it, I probably will ;)

AU. Sam and Dean haven't spoken since Sam left for Stanford. Dean's about thirty when he gets busted-up but good and has to stop hunting. He changes his name ('cause he's hiding from the feds) and opens a bar much like the Roadhouse and becomes a sort of sage-like character -- people come to him for advice. Sam comes looking for advice -- doesn't expect to find his brother.

[identity profile] ratherastory.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Totally not too late. I can only write a few things at a time, frankly, so a lot of these prompts are going on a Giant List Of Things To Write.

I actually really like this one (not a surprise: you are among the handful of people whose prompts make me all write-y), so on the list it goes!
