ratherastory: (Glare of Doom)
Title: Also Full of Overcoming
Summary: Written for the [livejournal.com profile] sassy_otp Sastiel fanworks exchange. From a prompt by [livejournal.com profile] weirdwednesday. Cas takes care of Sam as he’s detoxing for the second time, after 5.14.
Characters: Sam & Cas, totally gen. (I’m so sorry, prompter! I hope you’re not too disappointed).
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 2,906
Disclaimer: Jim Beaver replied to one of my tweets this one time. Does that count?
Warnings: Angst. Not much else. Spoilers up to 5.14
Neurotic Author’s Note #1: I was given three prompts to work with: a story that took place during or after 5.14; “it’s one of those impossible things that are begging to be proved doable;” and “Oh yeah, talk to me in dead languages some more.” I managed the first, danced carefully around the second, and totally munged the third. So, uh, I hope this is okay, [livejournal.com profile] weirdwednesday.
Neurotic Author’s Note #2: While I love the idea of Sam/Cas, I am apparently not yet in the right mindspace to write it convincingly. I tried, I really did!
Neurotic Author’s Note #3: I would like to thank my beta, [livejournal.com profile] nwspaprtaxis, for giving me some very sound advice on some of the plot points/character development in this fic. All other mistakes are mine. :)

Snagged a writer meme from [livejournal.com profile] tahirire. :)

I think it would be fun to talk about stories, but the usual memes are like, "What happens next?" "Tell me about Character A?" Which isn't so much talking about stories as it is writing more of a story. But you know how sometimes you read something and you're like, "I got ___ out of this story, I wonder if I have that right?" or "What on earth was ____ supposed to be?" and it's too awkward to ask the author? Now you could totally ask!

I've heard people say that writing is hard because you have to make decisions, but we never really talk about the decisions we make with stories or why we make them. We talk about plot bunnies, but not about how we actually turn them into a story.

So, if you wanted, ask me questions! (Or use this to ask your flist to ask you questions).

What were you trying to do [here]? Why did you decide to ____? This is what I thought about xyz, is that what you were going for? What made you write ____? Why did you decide to do this? And so on.
