And of Things That Will Bite (1/2)
Nov. 8th, 2010 08:32 pmTitle: And of Things That Will Bite
Prompt/Summary: Written for the
spn_reversebang, for a prompt by the lovely and talented
becc_j. Set mid-season 1. Sam and Dean investigate a case in which the victims suffer from debilitating nightmares before lapsing into comas from which they never wake. Soon, the brothers find themselves trapped the same nightmare, with only each other to rely on in order to come out alive.
Characters: Sam, Dean, OCs
Rating: PG-13
Wordcount: 16, 159
Disclaimer: Not mine. Alas.
Warnings: No spoilers. Mild swearing. Show-levels of violence.
Art Link: Master Post
Neurotic Author's Note #1: I lucked out spectacularly in my prompt.
becc_j's three-panel comic is eerie and atmospheric, and just beautiful in the quality of its lighting and composition. It was a real joy to work from in terms of building a plot around it.
Neurotic Author's Note #2: Many, many thanks to the the lovely and talented
faithburke, who beta'd this monster for me in record time. In fact, her turnaround was so fast I pretty much got whiplash.
Neurotic Author's Note #3: Thank you to the
spn_reversebang mods for all their hard work putting this together! This has been a hell of a challenge. :)

THERE IS COMMENT-FIC HAPPENING AND I CAN'T PARTICIPATE!
*cries*
I am way behind on my reverse big bang. I'm plugging away steadily at it, but I'm behind.
I'm also officially late on my Secret Lovers' Exchange.
claudiapriscus is a rockstar who beta'd it overnight, but she pointed out (quite rightly) some serious structural issues with it that need to be rectified. The poor fic needs major surgery, so I'll be doing that tonight when I get home.
Anyway, there is comment-fic happening at
hoodie_time and
sharp_teeth. I task ALL OF YOU to go participate so that I can live through you vicariously, okay?
Then, when I have fulfilled my obligations, I am going to SWAN DIVE into the comment-fic. \o/

Writing is hard!
Oct. 22nd, 2010 03:23 amMy shoulder recovered enough for me to start writing again in earnest, and so now I have spent the last two days working on a fic that's due for an exchange on the same day as the original Reverse Big Bang challenge. I'm hoping to have that done and out of the way by tonight, so that I can concentrate on the RBB all this weekend, and have something useful for my artist by Sunday night. The prompts I had were... umm... vague. Still, I think I've come up with something that will make my recipient happy while making me happy too. This is only the second time I've ever attempted writing Gabriel, and it's harder than I imagined. It's hard not writing him as a total caricature, especially since I'm attempting a more lighthearted fic. No, I swear, there's very little angst so far! Really!
This has been the weirdest, most random week ever. I don't even know where to start. There was overtime, and night shift, and stupid goddamn work politics that I want no part of and yet that keep landing in my lap because I'm trying to be freakin' Switzerland. Okay, so I'm a really snarky, opinionated Switzerland, but still. Being easy to talk to is a curse. Feh.
Anyway, I'm glad to be back in the writing saddle, so to speak. I feel bad that I haven't been able to write anything for the
sharp_teeth meme, but hopefully once I've done the RBB I'll be able to devote some time to it. I'm hoping that it'll still be going strong around Hallowe'en.
I keep telling myself that I should give myself a one-month hiatus from all writing obligations, but then I look at my calendar and realize I've already committed to stuff all the way into January. *sigh* Oh, fandom, the things I do for the love of you. ;)

Writing projects, October to December
Oct. 7th, 2010 08:59 amThis is for my own purposes, feel free to skip. My master list of projects is getting a bit unwieldy, so I'm just putting this down in order to make sure I have my ducks in a row.

No, no. I haven't signed up. I just think it looks really cool, so I'm pimping it out. I am NOT going to sign up for this unless I've reached a specific number of completed stories by the time the deadline comes up.
Now, normally all my challenges should be written by then. First drafts for both remaining Big Bangs (the Dean/Cas one and the werewolf one), and everything but the two bingo cards is due way before then.
In the meantime, though, I have a few other projects on the go, so I'm not allowed to sign up unless I've written one installment a week, minimum, for "Roses in December," filled at least one square of my bingo cards, and at least two prompts for

So there. Guidelines are established, and no one has to stage an intervention because
